Feb. 18th; Afternoon; Video

[The tiny girl on the screen looks like she's concentrating hard on the multitude of computer parts in front of her, working diligently at taking apart a computer and putting it all back together again, for no other reason then because she can.

At length she speaks quietly] Have you ever had that feeling like you've been forgetting to do something; and it's like an itch in the back of your head you can't quite get to?

[Lain frowns, putting her screwdriver aside and looking like she's working hard to remember. After a moment her eyes widen] Oh! This is the day we decided our birthday would be! How did we forget...?

[The voice that comes out of Lain then sounds distinctly different from the one before, body language subtly shifting to become more aggressive and confident. Bold sighs] Aarrghh, it's not like we're used to this! [She looks momentarily thoughtful] You know, who knows how many years we've actually been active. Let's say we're 21 now.

Bold... [Looking reproachful at--well, at the air, Lain then turns her attention to the communicator, picking it up to peer at it with solemn eyes and a serious expression] We've never celebrated a birthday before. What are we supposed to do?

It's your birthday, Lain-san... So you should celebrate it by doing, um...whatever you want to do?

Oh, Hinata-san... [Lain supposes she's right, but she can't quite think of anything]

Neji said not to worry about dinner tonight, but... maybe we could bake a cake together? You, me, and Hanabi?

[voice]

[hyuuga]

Um, Neji...said that? [Please tell her he's really not cooking.]

But sure! If that's what you'd like, then...we should. It'll be fun. Do you know what kind of cake you'd like?

[Quickly:] he said he'd pick something up. I wasn't sure what to tell him, so I just said sushi, or traditional things... Is that alright?

[What kind of cake indeed. She looks thoughtful] I'd like to try making a chiffon cake... Making with a fruit center?

[hyuuga]

[Such an internal sigh of relief. Neji can be trusted with take-out.] Yes. Yes, that's fine. If that's what you wanted, that is.

And...that sounds fine, Lain-san. What kind of fruit would you like?

I never know what to say when other people ask me... I'm always used to asking others. I don't have a favorite food, but I suppose sushi is good enough.

[She thinks about that for only a moment before answering] Strawberries. I think that's the best way to go.

[hyuuga]

It's OK.. [But to not have a favorite food?! This must be corrected.] Sushi, I think, will always be a good choice.

All right... I will get some strawberries unless we do have them already.

[She smiles a little, pleased that her suggestion was a good one]

I don't think we have any strawberries. I haven't been able to get any lately. [She'd already had a few strawberry dishes she was interested in making] You don't have to go get them, though... I don't want it to be a bother or anything.

Oh, no... It's really no problem, Lain-san. I-I don't mind going to get them. And...it is your birthday, so that just means I'll definitely come back with them.
