.viii. | Accidental Video | February 18th | Evening

[The feed flicks on just in time to show the room spinning by, before landing at an angle on what is presumably a countertop. Yako stretches, oblivious, and unhooks the leash from her massive dog before collapsing on the couch with a tired sigh.]

Really, Kero-chan, I love you, but you have to cool it a little. Squirrels are not the enemy.

[The Newfoundland snorts, hopping up next to her, as if dismissing her objection]

[From the direction of the door comes the sound of the lock clicking open before the door is flung open and Sai makes his grand entrance, arms outstretched and a cheerful smile on his face.]

Katsuragi Yako, entertain me!

[Almost mechanically, Yako turns to look at him. And for a moment, she’s very quiet. Then:]

Sai...how did you get in?

[Her tone is casual, inquisitive, at most, though the truly observant might notice how tightly her fingers are laced in her dog’s fur.]

[If Sai did notice (which he did), he doesn’t make any mention of it. Instead, he plops himself on the couch beside the dog, not minding the tight squeeze at all.]

I took the key.

[He smiles at her, waving Yako’s spare key, partly to show her that he does in fact have the key, and partly to taunt her. His tone implies that it should have been obvious that he had the key. What, did she think he ripped the door right out of the frame? Geez.]

Of course.

[Yako rubs a hand over her face as her dog clambers half onto her lap. Honestly, she really should have expected him to pocket something the first time she let him in. Sighing again, she shakes her head.]

You know, normal people call first before coming over. Or knock.

But that would ruin the surprise, Katsuragi Yako. And besides--

[Sai leans in, using Yako’s dog as an arm-rest, still smiling.]

--Are you telling me that you would happily let me in if I called ahead?

[Yako frowns at him, scratching behind Kerberos’ ears.]

...I might have been more inclined. Maybe.

Before or after you changed the locks and ran away to one of your friends?

[Yako opts not to answer that, huffing lightly.]

You’re a brat, you know that?

[Yes, he knows. And the fact that Yako opts not to answer makes him chuckle. Being right never fails to make his day. Since Yako never answered his question, it’s only fair, however, that he doesn’t answer hers.]

I’m bored.

[Yako stiffens. That is not good. Not good at all.]

You realize that, in this very city, there are various places to go to fix that, right? Arcades, restaurants, clubs...Why not go to one of them?

Because I didn’t feel like it.

[And because Yako wants him to go to those places, he will never feel like going again.]

Of course you didn’t.

[Yako’s shoulders slump. For a moment, just a fraction of a second, the neckline of her shirt dips just a bit too far to the left. The next instant her posture is back to normal, however.]

[That moment is enough for Sai to suddenly lean over to grab for the neckline of Yako’s shirt.]

What’s tha--

[What he forgets though, is that dogs are not flat surfaces that are suitable for leaning over. Sai slips and with one hand still on Yako’s shoulder, ends up falling and pushing her over.]

Wh-What are you--

[Yako’s panicked inquiry is cut off as Kerberos, fed up with all this movement, squirms out from between them and pads away from the couch with a disgruntled growl. Without the large furry buffer, Yako finds herself up close and personal with the killer. After a moment of futilely trying to get his fingers away from her shirt, she finds her voice again.]

What are you doing?!

[Sai isn’t bothered at all by this position, and keeps his eyes fixed on Yako’s shoulder.]

Take off your shirt, Katsuragi Yako.

[Yako goes still in shock. Then her voice turns soft; deadly, deceptively soft.]

What.

[It is at this point that Sai looks up, directly at Yako’s communicator, smiles and waves.]
