...sleepy....

[There’s a different, softer sigh and the sound of someone else shifting under covers.]

....mmnph...quiet....

[The bed creaks as if it is adjusting to accommodate a shift in weight.]

...come over here...it’s too early anyways.....

[That earns another groggy noise, one indicating either acceptance or that the other party is drifting back into the realm of unconsciousness anyways. Things meld into a quiet lull for a few minutes, until there is an ominous creaking of metal and a loud crash, peppered with at least two yelps. One of which is decidedly not human.]

My cat is lost.

It's mean-tempered, not very bright, mangy and just generally terrible. The breed is Cornish Rex, the age is "old", and the color is something between smoke and mud. The sex is male.

Wear thick gloves if you attempt to pick it up.

[Privately Coded to Mello, Near, and Matt] [Audio]

Relevant information follows, so listen carefully.

Yagami doesn't know that he died, and he doesn't know that I'm aware of the events following my own death... including the fact that I know he is Kira. For now, I want to keep it this way. Should any of you encounter him, feign ignorance. If something changes, I will inform you immediately.

[Privately Coded to Bakura] [Text]

1. I got those cards you left for me, and I saw some people playing in public the other day. I am still trying to decide whether I actually want to look like those individuals, but the prognosis is grim.

2. What I didn't tell you recently is that Light is back in the city. Don't talk to him. I'm concerned that you'll ruin something with your general bumbling and strangeness.

3. I am out of shortcake.

When is the next time you're not going to be over at Bakura's?

[Privately Coded to Eridan] [Audio]

I am nearly certain that our surveillance of Kadaj will draw to a close soon. I want you to know that you have an excellent reference, if you want to take a different position within the Watch.

As much as I like having you work for me, you're too talented to fetch coffee and check spreadsheets. Also, I'll be working alone for my next assignment, by my own decision.

[Privately Coded to Light] [Audio]

How are you acclimating to Death City? I thought we should meet sometime soon. Maybe in the neighborhood of "right now?"

Really, Kero-chan, I love you, but you have to cool it a little. Squirrels are not the enemy.

[The Newfoundland snorts, hopping up next to her, as if dismissing her objection]

Hello! It feels like a forever since the last time I posted here. Many things has happened since then.

At first I'd like to apologize to everyone who I promised to sew and mend clothes. I have been surprisingly busy lately. As you can see, I have moved out from Creeping Crypt. [Cinderella moves camera around better that you can see the surroundings. The new apartment is still quite empty, but there are few unpacked boxes lying here and there.] You can now find me staying at Death City Heights, building seven.

I have also finally found a meister for myself! Her name is Utena and we are now living together and-- oh! There she is! [the camera moves again and focuses on a pink haired girl behind her.]

[Utena walks in with a cardboard box in her arms, and soon she strides over towards Cinderella...only to be cheerfully accosted by her new partner's animal friends. Mice run underfoot while a couple of small birds flitter through the air, and Utena tries to fidget out of the way]

Hey, guys, I'm trying to-[jerks as she almost steps on one of the mice, and jumps out of the way] Whoa, careful there!

[after a moment, she sighs and resigns herself to being a temporary perch, standing perfectly still for the time being. Meanwhile one of the birds lands on the box, while the other perches on her shoulder]

Am I interrupting something?

[Cinderella chuckles a little and offers her hand for the bird to hop on.] Listen, it's not very nice to bother Utena when she is busy. It will make things difficult to her. [She scolds the bird with a gentle voice and then looks at her new meister.]

Oh, not at all. I was just telling people about our partnership.

---Oh! I guess I should introduce myself, then, huh? [now that the bird is gone, Utena sets the box down - she'll put it in its proper spot later - and waves towards the camera with a smile on her face]

Hey everybody, I'm Utena Tenjou, one of the guests that BREW brought in back in January. I know that I haven't been around much, but...well, after everything that's happened here, I'd like to change that. We're both still new to being partners, and we still have a lot to learn, but we're going to try our best to help out around here.

[Cinderella nods at Utena. She couldn't have said it better.] We will hopefully soon be able to go on missions just like everyone else. I'll be looking forward to it.

Ah, I can't help feeling that things are a little quiet around here right, now. I know I should probably feel glad considering the alternative, but I guess I find it all too easy to become bored.

I've heard the news that there may be a serial killer in our midst, but it's hard to feel concern for something when it's at a remove from you, right? It's a big city after all, and it's easy to put your mind to rest and think that such a thing will never happen to you. Only, perhaps the people who were killed used to think exactly the same thing? I wonder.

Anyway! Perhaps it's better to concentrate on something a little less morbid. And since I said I was bored...maybe some of you can tell me what you like to do for fun around here? Is there anything you particularly like about Death City? Or even things you really dislike? Give me some ideas ☆
anationisnothing: (no you move)

I'm sure you've all seen the headlines by now. There's a killer on the loose, and he may have claimed up to four victims. Everyone should take precautions until we catch him: Don't travel alone, avoid isolated areas of the city, and stay indoors at night if at all possible.

If anyone has any information you think may be pertinent to the case, please come forward with it, even if you don't think it's important, or you're worried about getting someone in trouble. Even the smallest morsel of information can cause a break in a case like this, and the most important thing right now is finding and putting a stop to the killer before he takes another life. If you know anything, please let myself or any other member of the Watch know.

Finally, since three of the victims were suspects in a criminal case, it's possible that these murders may be an act of vigilante justice. If that is the case, and the perpetrator is listening now, I ask you: please turn yourself in. I understand your feelings, but even criminals are entitled to a fair trial and the rule of law. What you're doing isn't justice. It's murder, plain and simple, and it has to stop.

Captain America out.

Recently, there has been a new arrival from my world, as seen in this post. He goes by the name of Sai or X most often, but back in our world he was renowned as a thief and murderer called Monster Robber XI.

The original purpose behind the murders he committed won't be an issue here, and the method he used as his trade-mark was probably restricted by BREW when he was brought in.

{There's a pause between this and the rest; Yako had typed and deleted various other warnings, before settling on the final draft.}

That doesn't mean he isn't still dangerous, however; honestly speaking, it's more than likely that he could kill somebody out of boredom as much as anything else. Despite BREW's intervention, I think he is more than capable of doing so, and he has always been exceptional at avoiding suspicion or police custody.

I just wanted you to be aware of the possibility; hopefully I can ensure that he won't act up, but the chance exists.

I don’t really know how to fight at all... but back in our world, I’m an actress so if anyone needs an entertainer, think of me! And I’m only talking about classy stuff, okay? I’m a top-idol in Japan, after all!

What I WANT to do is to invite you! The World’s End, a Pub, opens this evening and it’d be really sad if no people would be coming over for such an occasion, right? The offers are music, entertainment, drinks and good company! First drink’s on the house!

[He'd been keeping out of the way during the recent chaos for the most part, his strong sense of self-preservation leaving him disinclined to take up an active roll - that, and he may still have been sulking just a little over the results of a run-in with a certain detested someone while under the influence of the contaminated water - but that doesn't mean he hasn't been watching. On the contrary, he'd quite enjoyed witnessing the turmoil produced by recent events, and has been keeping a careful eye on the DEMISE network just to make certain he doesn't miss anything that might be useful to him, later.

But now all the chaos has died down and he's feeling a little bored, so he deems it time to re-engage with Death City society]

Ah well, that was certainly a baptism by fire! So much has happened, and all in the last ten days since my arrival. Witches and kidnappings and chaos in the streets, even potential serial killings on top of it all; enough to unnerve or at least unsettle most people, I would have thought. Is this the level of danger we'll be facing on a regular basis, I wonder? I'd been led to believe otherwise.

How many of you did the attacks convince to fight as we've been brought here to do? How many were dissuaded? I myself am still undecided.

The list of deaths and casualties was fairly high, so my condolences to anyone who's experienced a recent loss or disappearance. It's strange and perhaps a little disorientating to find ourselves in a situation like this, and that must be made significantly worse if the people you know - either those you've met since arriving here or those you might have known from home - are lost or threatened. Unless those people were ones you found threatening, I suppose, which is always a possibility.

Which leads me to another question! Have many people here chosen to locate partners amongst those they knew before coming to Death City? Or is it more common to pair off with those you've only just met? I suppose I'm feeling a little curious.

the possible reason for both his lack of sleep and strange vigilance is readily apparent. the table he's recording from is covered in papers -- any paper he could get his hand on -- and the papers are covered in messy, foreign letters and drawings. the one he's writing on now is visible from the camera...]

Before I forget -- and yesterday's a day I'd certainly like to forget -- I feel I owe some individuals my gratitude for their assistance. [a pointed look. white-haired broody guy, demona, natsu, hades... you know who you are.] It's thanks only to them and the rest of the city's defenders that neither I nor many others ended up a statistic in the Death City Times.

[now that that's over with, qilby taps his pencil idly on the paper before him.] I need to know something, though. Do we know what a soul is? I mean, I've read as much as I can on the subject, but... [his ever-present smile falters, for once.] Forgive me for the morbidity, but if ours are destroyed, what happens to us? I'd heard of guests who've died in this world only to return later with no memories of what happened. And I've heard of guests who've been sent back to their world, souls intact, to show up again recalling everything they'd previously experienced.

As far as us other-worlders are concerned, it seems like our souls in particular are... Almost a repository for all our accumulated knowledge and power gained since coming here. But the same can't be said of people originally from this world, it seems.

[a pause, a pained look.]
I saw... Many humans have their souls removed, yesterday. I don't suppose there's the possibility of a return for them -- not like we've the privilege of having.

[The last three days have run L absolutely ragged.

The madness-induced events of the 31st had been no joke, leaving L with finger-shaped bruises on his throat, drugged (sleeping pills), and poisoned (undercooked eggs? Or perhaps something else?) . The 1st of February had been spent recovering from the exhaustion and illness of the previous day, , and the 2nd had found him tentatively leaving the apartment in search of something to soothe his unsettled stomach... only to find himself in the middle of an attack on the city.

A crow familiar had tried to seize his skinny arm and carry him away. He'd beat it off with an enormous bottle of Pepto-Bismol he'd purchased moments before the city had erupted in chaos, stumbling and half-falling into a shop's storm cellar.

He had remained there, motionless and wide-eyed, all night, watching shadows pass outside and pressing his back against the wall if one came too close. At one point, a zombie had tried to break in; scarcely daring to breathe, L had held the doors shut, knuckles whiter than his face, until the threat had given up and shambled off to find a meal more easily extracted from its seclusion.

Now it is the 3rd. The Madness Wavelength is all but out of his system entirely (no small thanks to the food poisoning), and he emerges, disheveled and blinking, into the quiet street.

He takes out his communicator, reading the news as he walks, briskly, and then at a slight jog, back towards Death City Heights.

He's moving too quickly to be a zombie, so hopefully residents won't mistake the gaunt, rigid-eyed man for one. He simply looks like someone who is consumed by an all-important purpose, and whose legs might give out before he accomplishes it. There are also some alarmingly vivid bruises on his neck, but if you're polite, maybe you'll pretend you don't notice.]

First of all, I would like to extend my gratitude toward Shibusen and the guests who ran the initial tour from the Kishin Chamber to Casualty Communal. It was very informative and organized, and offered a great deal of guidance for us new arrivals. I'm sure I'm not the only who appreciated it.

[ There's a pause and he segues into the next part, keeping his tone pleasant and amicable. ]

My name is Light Asahi. I've been told I was here once before, but I'm afraid my memories from that time have been erased -- so if we've met, I apologize for not recalling. From what I've seen in these past couple of days, there are a great number of fighters and people from worlds where fighting is the standard form of practice. I, myself, am not much of a fighter. As a matter of fact, I was just an ordinary college student up until BREW choose me to partake in this war. I can't say I'm entirely comfortable taking the front line or going on a mission -- although my partner seems intent, if not eager, to fight. If I may ask, for those of you who are experienced here, what made you decide to fight for Shibusen? And for those of you who are inexperienced or perhaps uncertain, are your reasons for not partaking in this war similar to my own?

I believe that is all--

Light? Would you come look at something? For an accuracy check, you know, I'm sure you've seen more than I have...

[L's typical monotone is unusually high-spirited, calling from a separate room in the Death City Heights apartment.]

-- Now is not a good time, Ryuzaki. I'm in the middle of something. [ Light's tone reflects the patience of a saint, even though his patience is really wearing thin. ]

Mmhmm, aren't you always... in the middle of something, that is, but seriously, I'd like your opinion on some decorating decisions. Decisions that have been made already, mind you, but that doesn't mean you can't offer your input after the fact.

Do these decorating decisions have anything to do with the potent smell of markers, perhaps?

[ There's a long, heavy pause as he addresses the network once more. ]

I apologize. There's something I must attend to.

Good day to all! By now I think almost everyone should be up instead of sleeping in! I am Maito Gai, for those who have newly arrived, and I am here to give you a reason to greet the morning as it begins instead of later in the day! Morning Training!

Every morning, from six until nine, morning training happens. It is there to teach how to be a Weapon or a Meister, personal fitness and combat skills, resonating with your partners, and how to figure out your abilities! Breakfast is provided! There are very good reasons to show up, I assure you!

[He poses, giving a thumbs-up to show added sincerity. It looks goofy, but for him it means a guarentee. The thumb goes down, and his big smile tones down just a little.]

There is also something else I have been giving some thought to. Encouragement. It is a very important thing and many are lacking in it. I have managed to build some up!

[Karkat, Neji, Santana, he's looking at you three especially.]

But I would like some help. Do you know someone who could use encouragement or another friend? I would be glad to assist! We are all far from home here and could use support! It is not easy, after all, to be taken somewhere, especially when you are in the middle of something important! Let me know their name and I will seek them out!

[He straightens up now, looking directly at the screen.]

To those who are new, welcome to Death City! I hope that you do well in your stay here!

To those who have been here for a time... I could use some more assistance in some areas of morning training. Breakfast and Partnership are the two areas that I could most use help in, but any who wish to assist and know what they are doing will not be turned away!

[[ooc: Morning training happens every morning, but is logged out in one big log about once a real-time month. An ooc coordination post goes up first, and that will go up on the in-game 29th. Pens are arranged carefully, as are the folders and papers on his other side.

All in all, it's the usual. Except for one thing - the shadow of a picture frame that blocks a corner of the transmission before he moves it. Anyone who has been to Miles' office or at least seen it over the network would know that there are no framed photographs of any sort on his desk.

His tone is crisp, that of someone who seriously means business. Then again, since when did he NOT mean business?]

The Kuzunoha Detective Agency is looking for at least one more guard, a janitor, and a messenger. If you are interested, do let us know. You may either leave a message in my inbox or Near's inbox, reply to this post, or pay us a visit. [He gives quick directions from Shibusen to the Agency, which is in a quieter area of the Shopping District.] Of course, if you wish to apply for a different position, then by all means do so.

[He clears his throat, and careful hands tug at his cravat slightly.]

As we are receiving another batch of newcomers, allow me to introduce myself. My name is Miles Edgeworth, public prosecutor and one of the heads of the Agency. [He inclines his head slightly in greeting.] Near is my co-head, and he is in charge of the city's surveillance system.

The Agency was organized to conduct investigations, gather information, maintain security, and coordinate with the Watch and Shibusen for these purposes. Many of our members have had experience in law enforcement or the legal professions; if you are skilled in such or any related fields, or if you believe you can contribute, we would be glad of your assistance.

[A pause.]

Moving on to other matters, I am still looking for a Weapon - preferably a knife, a sword or a staff. I'm willing to work with any Weapon, in any case. My Meister ability is Soul Talk; I can command and convince others to do my bidding.

It's crossed his mind that perhaps he should be utilising an alias - his exploration of the DEMISE network has informed him there's at least one person here he'd rather avoid - but ultimately he decides there's little need for it. It's a big enough city for his whereabouts to remain undetected, and he's still hidden behind his use of text; better to reserve anonymity for those times when it's really needed. Besides, this is an unprecedented situation, and he's a little excited. It's not the kind of experience he ever could have predicted, and while he's here he thinks he may as well make it fun.

And so, he makes his introduction]

I suppose I'm expected to begin with questions. Why have I, of all people, been brought here to fight a war that has little to do with me, is perhaps among the most common. Ah, but that's all a little pointless, don't you think? We are, all of us, in control of our own lives and as such are the only ones who can be held accountable for what happens to us. It's a matter of responsibility and an attempt to abdicate it would be both careless and cowardly. At least, that's how I see it.

I guess what I'm trying to say is, for whatever reason, it's the path we chose in life that brought us here, a chain of actions and events that we are, ultimately, responsible for. That makes the question of ‘why’ irrelevant, doesn't it?

For whatever reason, we're here now. Perhaps we ought to enjoy it~

I have never interviewed for one, but I've typed up a resume and I am a very fast learner. There are too many hours in the day, I've found, and as soon as I possibly can, I want to start working.

Also, I want to take on a mission with my partner before mid-February, so any guidance in that department on a regular basis would be much appreciated, in addition to the regular training that Shibusen offers.
