[ Death City, have a very defeated looking Re-l Mayer standing over a pot of charred, smoking... something.. It would seem that a little cooking adventure had taken place, and Re-l had failed miserably. Her windows are open but there is still some lingering smoke as she tries to scrape the dead meal off of the bottom of the pan, grimacing at what a wreck all of this was. 

Well, let's just say her cooking isn't the best. Finally she puts the pan down and turns to address the network, looking rather disgusted with herself. ] 

I've tried time and time again to cook a dinner that wasn't noodles before my shifts, and every time it ends up like this... 

[ Oh, that's quite an ugly frown. ] 

Would anyone be willing to, I don't know, teach me something when it comes to cooking? Is there some special skill or talent that makes people more or less able to cook?

Ain't hard to follow a recipe. Just gotta watch it, not crank the heat up so damn high so you burn it before you can do somethin' about it.

Recipes tend to have stupid directions like a 'pinch' of this or a 'scoop' of that. How the hell does that even make sense?

Scoop? ...Like ice cream? [Was that black sludge ice cream? He was suddenly having horrible flashbacks.]

I know that. [ Said in a very 'no shit Sherlock' manner. She's such a people person, really. ] But that's not a very solid measurement.

I just follow directions. Cooking for myself is a bit.. new..

As long as you can read, measure, count, and calculate time limits, it hardly requires any skills or special abilities. Cooking is a simple science.

There is no issue. It is physically impossible unless there is something incorrect.

You do realize that cooking is not quite the same as computations and scientific experiments, don't you?

Cooking is science. Even though you can eat the product, it is the result of multiple different objects reacting to each other through chemical, heat, and other sources of energy being applied to it.

Cooking isn't science. [ Oops, that was an eye roll, as she turns back to cleaning the pot she's properly destroyed. ]

Science is medicine and the creation or destruction of life, things like that. Spices are not chemicals, or anything of the sort.

That is a very narrow minded view of science. And undoubtedly incorrect. Cooking is definitely a very narrow subset of science.

People who think they are inevitably correct about everything are typically wrong about most things. [ Calmly ignoring the fact that she's a bit of a know-it-all of course. ]

Perhaps. But reactions among various chemical agents is my realm of expertise so the chances of me being incorrect here are slim to null.

I'd be happy to show you a thing or two about cooking. It doesn't require any particular skill or talent - just a little patience and attention to detail, that's all.

[ Sigh. And this is just another reason why she wishes Vincent was here. ]

[ Because she'll bring some of her stuff over at least so Re-l can make dinner for herself. Something simple - noodles is fine, yeah, but filling? Though they might have to stick to that anyhow since Re-l didn't have much time. ]

Pretty much every type of noodle, spices for them and things to make some sort of sauce if need be... I've been getting by on those things for a while now, I guess you could say.

You're not the one here smelling it... [ And she's pretty sure you might be able to. But who knows beyond ehr own apartment, really, and considering she's the only one on this floor... ]

[ If the windows are open she... probably will? But as promised, after the necessary travel time there is a knock on Re-l's door. Hellooooooo? ]

[ She's still trying to scrape her burnt 'dinner' off of the bottom of the pot when she knocks, so it takes her a moment to get to the door. But when she does there's a bit of a relieved sigh from the teenager as she steps aside to allow her in. ]

It's good to see you so soon.

[ Hey this is totally an emergency scenario. The smell of burning food is ... ohGOD. Tsubaki's smile almost wavers, but she bows a polite greeting to Re-L when she open the door. ]

This is important, isn't it? You haven't had anything to eat yet? Ah - I'm afraid I forgot to introduce myself earlier. [ She steps into the apartment, casting a quick assessing glance around before turning to Re-L. ]

Tsubaki Nakatsukasa.

[ She warned you, Tsubaki. And this is why Vincent did all of the cooking back in her world, because it's in short supply and she would have ruined the vast majority of it. ]

It is. How fast you arrived just surprised me. [ At least she manages a little smile and a nod, typically not the most.. friendly person. ] I don't think I did either. Re-l Mayer - it's good to meet you, Tsubaki.

[ She thought it was an exaggeration! ]

I was nearby so it really was no trouble at all. It's nice to meet you, Re-l-san. Shall we get started? [ You poor thing, you must be starving. ]

It's good to meet you too. [ But then she gives a nod, gesturing toward the kitchen and what she has available in her pantry. There's actually a large variety there, if only she knew what the hell to do with it. ]

Go ahead and use whatever you'd like.

Thank you. [ She pads on into the kitchen to see what they're working with here - and thankfully, there's quite a lot. ]

Well, what would you like to start? Do you want to prepare one of these instant ramen dishes?

The instant ramen would be good.. there's plenty of time after when I'm in a rush to learn to make other things... [ Plus she just likes instant gratification. ]

[ Tsubaki nods, ohgod, even with the window open the smell of burned cooking is prevalent. Smile smile, Tsubaki~~! ]

Where is it you said you were working?

[ She has no problem with making idle small talk whilst collecting one of the instant ramen cups to prepare, studying the back. ]

[ There's a small bit of shuffling as she sorts through her drawers, eventually finding a lighter to start up some candles to, hopefully, break up the smell. They're all a soft perfumed smell, not too flowery but more subtle and fruit like.

Re-l, after all, wasn't the super girlish type. ]

The Watch. My patrol shift is midnight to six AM but, naturally, I don't like to eat quite that late.

[ It helps, a bit, yes. SO while Tsubaki proceeds to warm the water and heat up the instanoodles, she glances over her shoulder for Re-L. ]


Well that certainly is understandable. I hope that between Shibusen and working at The Watch you get enough sleep in the evening. [ Which in theory, she should be, but!

That's what I'm wondering about too, actually, since I can't seem to get it right, either. [He smiles a bit sheepishly.] Sorry I'm not being helpful at all.

It's not a problem. At least I'm not a failure at cooking by myself.. [ Yes, Re-l, because that's totally something you should be pleased about. ]

It is. Though many people may act like it's very simple it doesn't quite seem to click with me, for whatever reason. A bit frustrating, considering it isn't much more than following directions...
