By the way, it's a shame that you didn't participate on the Beauty Pageant. I'm quite sure you would have won.

[a serene smile. if his jimmies are rustled, he's sure not letting on.] You know I'm a busy man. I can't spend all my time winning beauty competitions.

[It doesn't matter, her idea is to use the confusion the city is currently going through to actually get out to the desert, if they can. ]

We will be leaving the city, anyway.

[not much surprises him anymore, but that certainly does. it shocks the scathing tone right out of his voice, actually.]

Leaving the city? But what--

[a beat.] ... Very well. Give me a few minutes.

Don't bring much, we won't be staying away for that long. I just need to show you something. [and she sounds quite pleased about it]

[and with that Demona turns off the video. She will be waiting patiently there for Qilby]

[talk about cryptic. he's not sure if he likes that, or loathes it. but there's nothing for it but to go along; his curiosity's never failed to get the better of him.

true to his word, it takes him a matter of minutes to get from where he is to the top of the steps at shibusen (despite his age and his inability to cheat using big wings!) his bag's with him, slung over one shoulder, but there doesn't appear to be much inside.

demona's not hard to pick out, especially this early in the morning with no one about. he approaches, speaking quietly.] Choosing to meet in the shadow of Shibusen, I see. Very daring.

[Demona is waiting there for the other, actually quite patiently. She wants to take the chance the city is sleeping and thinking of a Carnival instead of paying too much attention to a Gargoyle and her "friend" taking a night stroll through the desert to "enjoy the peaceful times".

Actually, she wants to show Qilby her (and Barricade's) findings. The witch factor.]

[she comes closer, a smirk on her lips.] What can I say, I'm a daring person by nature.

And I am very capable as well. There is something I have to show you, out in the desert.

It is, since you're right: He definitely would have won.

[You know, if the rest of the contestants were any older than Qilby himself.]

I have no doubt of that. Honestly, I had high hopes on him.

I can imagine. The least he could do was go through with it, since you went through the trouble of signing him up in the first place. He shouldn't be so shy.

I agree. I even went up to the island, hoping to see his performance.

[He'd had the misfortune of being forced up to the island, but he wasn't going to talk about that.]

See anything interesting, since he was obviously a no show?

[ oh her expression turns a bit sour ] The humans are having their fun up there. [ meaning, it was awful and everyone should feel awful ]

They forget they are at war, and leave the whole place unprotected. [ bunch of fools, but that is great great! ]

[Audio -> switch to private]

[Because they should only be so rude and hostile towards humans in public, Barricade adjusts the filters for her. Temper, temper, dear lady.]

What else is new? This is the first city I've seen on Earth that actually has walls to protect it, as well as an isolated location, so I'll give it that. But I'm sure you've noticed the defenses are awfully thin, what with Shibusen scrambling for that last generator.

[ she was actually very soft! Demona simply stated how dumb they were. ]

They are fools without priorities. They are supposedly fighting a war but take few days off for Beauty Pageants.

I do hope there will be an attack.

if he could walk and talk and hold the mirror and massage his temples at the same time, he would.] Certainly not when I have a name to defend.

If you really wanted to see me compete, perhaps you two could have helped. But it's all for the best, anyway-- I'd hate to have taken the crown away from those more enthusiastic about winning it.

[Come on Qilby, evil never sleeps.]

I'll keep that in mind for the future. I could help you with your hair. [The sound of his claws sliding together can be heard.] And you're probably right. Let them gain some of that experience you've no doubt gathered in your age.

Indeed, it was supposed to be a competition. And there's no competition when there's one clear winner.
