[It's getting obvious by now that the jittery atmosphere from yesterday isn't just a temporary thing--in fact, it's gotten worse. There's true chaos in the streets of the Nocturne Bazaar now, angry voices raised in argument, and real screams of terror coming from places that definitely aren't horror-themed. Looters are running amok through the merchant stalls, technical problems and customer trouble are plaguing all the rides--there's news of people jumping from roller coasters and ferris wheels, and ride operators going nuts, and shows getting cancelled as entire casts fall ill, or simply fail to show up.
Shibusen agents are everywhere all of a sudden, where there were very few yesterday, rushing through the establishments and ransacking any standing buildings on the floating island. They're frantically searching for something, that much is obvious, and the panicked crowds aren't helping any. The gondolas are running at double-time, ferrying injured people, scared people down to Death City, which can't happen soon or fast enough; by noon all pretense of order is gone. Black Clowns are out and about, and there are giant crows dive-bombing anyone still running out in the open. There's at least one witch somewhere on the island, which has started to shake; a small, barely-perceptible trembling in the ground that nobody will notice at first, right up until the first chunks of rock start breaking off and crashing into the city below, like surprise meteorites.
And that's not all. Of course the enemy isn't going to leave the city alone and allow its defenders a chance to regroup. Airborne familiars have the island, giant insects have the city. Anyone trying to fight their way to the Bazaar will have to contend with massive spiders and scorpions, and possibly the witch controlling them, and then there's the madness wavelength, thick and cloying and stifling in the absence of Kid's protective barrier while he's engaging the enemy up in the carnival.
