[Some people have probably already expected something untoward when the ever-present and sparkling Gai-sensei didn't show up to morning practice as he normally does. Since it's still fairly early, Kakashi's absence probably didn't go quite as easily noticed. However, as the one who lived with the two of them, it's up to Obito to be the bearer of bad news.

For a moment, he just sits in silence. Then, once he seems to have gathered himself so that he won't burst into tears during the delivery of at least the initial message, he begins to speak. His words are almost monotone, completely controlled. Very unlike him.]

For anyone interested, both Maito Gai and Hatake Kakashi seem to have returned home. That is all.

[Short and simple.]

[But he makes one last post to a private filter for Gai's team. He's a little less formal here, though he still sounds a bit monotone.]

Um, there's a bunch of little turtles left that Gai was taking care of. Do you guys want 'em?

[ There's only so much he can infer from a few simple lines. But he doesn't miss that watering--so it must have a meaning. ]

... I might look like a kid, but where... or when I'm from, they're right around my age.

[It was strange to think about, even after having been here a few months with them, to think that they were both adults now and he was still so young. Guess that's how things worked when you died at the age of 13, though.]

Kakashi, he actually used to be on my team. And Gai... [Obito pulled a face.] Gai used to kick me in the head all the time.

[ He's heard before of BREW bringing in people from the same world at different times. It truly is a mystery how it works...

--Then his faintly melancholic train of thought suddenly crashed. ]

Eh? Gai-san did?

[ He can't picture that at all. ]

Yeah... [Obito will just omit the part about being dead.

He huffs an amused note.]

Yep. Actually, he K.O'd me twice in the same competition with the same move. Both times, kick right to the face.

[It really wasn't cool. Obito mumbles something about an annoying scarf-wearing loser under his breath.]

[ Don't mind his nervous chuckle. ]

Did he change a lot? ... Or did he just get taller.

Probably. I'm guessing you're a civilian? [Kid doesn't look like a shinobi, at any rate.]

Eh, he stopped wearing those goofy scarves. And yeah, he did get taller. More muscular, too, I guess. Still just as annoying as ever.

[There's a little fondness there. Just a little.]

Yeah. I'd... normally think that's the usual, but this girl I met at morning training taught me how to use weapons. She couldn't have been an adult yet, but she was really good. Said she learned how to fight since she was small. [ Even if he were to hypothetically have been born in a world like that, given his health he doubted he would have gotten very far... ]

[ Well, that was blunt. ]

Haha; I wonder if that's a good thing or not?

Well, BREW was used to bring warriors here to fight in the war. I guess that's why most people have some sort of weapons training or fighting skill. Or... I guess the ones who don't still tend to have a fighter's spirit. [That's all a warrior needed if they were lucky enough to be Weapons, at least.

Yeah, Obito's a blunt kinda guy.]

Heh. It would be weird if Gai decided to be all normal or standoffish all of a sudden, so I guess it's not a bad thing.

Yeah, exactly! I refuse to believe BREW brought me here for no reason. So I'm going to work hard to learn.

... That's a strange mental image. Doesn't suit his appearance at all! Or maybe it's just because of how we know him.

I know they appreciate help in just about any way they can get it. If you're not comfortable in battle, you can always help out with medical or ferry around supplies. [He shrugs.] As long as you have arms and legs, they won't turn you down.

As long as I've known him, he's always been that way. At least we can be certain we'll know how to catch an imposter if they try and imitate Gai. [No one matched his enthusiasm or looks except for Lee, and even then Lee and Gai were very different at times.]

Mm. I'll do my best in everything! You're right, I haven't attended the first aid training a while, I should start again...

Impersonating him would be really hard--! It's like he harvests his energy from some kind of second dimension!

That sounds like a good plan. At least you'll be able to tie up the wounds to begin with.

Ha! He'd probably love to hear that one! But yeah, he's been like that since he was our age. I was actually a little surprised to see that he hadn't changed much when I came here.
