[Some people have probably already expected something untoward when the ever-present and sparkling Gai-sensei didn't show up to morning practice as he normally does. Since it's still fairly early, Kakashi's absence probably didn't go quite as easily noticed. However, as the one who lived with the two of them, it's up to Obito to be the bearer of bad news.

For a moment, he just sits in silence. Then, once he seems to have gathered himself so that he won't burst into tears during the delivery of at least the initial message, he begins to speak. His words are almost monotone, completely controlled. Very unlike him.]

For anyone interested, both Maito Gai and Hatake Kakashi seem to have returned home. That is all.

[Short and simple.]

[But he makes one last post to a private filter for Gai's team. He's a little less formal here, though he still sounds a bit monotone.]

Um, there's a bunch of little turtles left that Gai was taking care of. Do you guys want 'em?

Okay... [Obito moves to get that from the fridge. He's kind of glad she at least uses milk. He can't drink tea without it being creamy and sweet.

Finally he sits down with her, holding his own mug between his hands.]

... If I won't be a bother, I guess that could be nice. Don't know how much I will want to get out for a while but that doesn't sound too bad.

I think a walk will help a bit...plus, you'll be getting out of here for a few hours without having to be very sociable.

[She might make some conversation with him, but Hanabi was also fine with walking in silence.]

Obito looks down at his tea still steaming in the mug. He kind of hates how he gets this way. Too emotional for a proper shinobi, Kakashi used to say when he was Obito's age. Perhaps he was. Emotions seemed pretty useless right now. They made someone like Obito pretty useless, anyway.]

... You said you would take a turtle, right?

Yes. A turtle shouldn't be too hard to take care of.

[There was still Taro, but Hanabi didn't mind taking care of the dog for the most part.]

They're not hard at all. Gai would pick up some feed for them every now and then at a pet store, and the tank needs monitoring but it doesn't have to be cleaned all that often.

And they're tiny, so they're not really a nuisance at all.

[It gave him a sense of responsibility caring for these turtles and making sure they got good homes. Obito didn't mind taking some, but 10 was a little much for him.]

Do they over-eat like fish do, or would a turtle be okay if I went on a mission for a day and left it with some extra food?

[She may not go on a lot of missions, but she has gone on a few here and there. It also gives her something to discuss with Obito that he seems comfortable enough talking about.]

I... think they're fine if you just leave some food for them. These eat fresh vegetables, and sometimes berries if you got them. But that's sorta like dessert for them, so make sure they have a lot of greens...

[Obito is trying to remember all the instructions Gai gave him on the few days he and Kakashi were out on missions away from home. It made him sad remembering, and there was also refreshed memories of the times he spent with Sai while they were gone.]

You won't have to worry about your turtle being aggressive. I'm pretty sure Gai only had females.

[Hanabi smiles slightly at that.]

I wasn't worried about the turtle being aggressive.

[Pause.]

Do they have names already?

They can be. [Obito smiles slightly.] But at least now you know they won't bite you.

Um, I think so. Stuff like "Flowering Youth" or whatever. You know how Gai is.

Do you know which one is which?

[If not, she'll just pick a name that Gai would have approved of.]

Uh, not really. It's hard to tell.

[Obito tilts his head a little, a sudden though hitting him.]

I wonder how Gai ever told them apart? They all look the same to me, but he would point to them when he talked about specific ones like he knew them individually...

[It was strange. Gai was terrible with faces and names, but give him a bucketful of turtles and he could pinpoint exactly which was which and why it was named that.]
