[ Rhode's sitting out at some cafe, bundled up with a little scarf and earmuffs and holding a magazine in her other hand. She seems to be paying more attention to the people walking by than the communicator, though. ]

You know... Watching the natives- And most of the guests, too, I suppose- I can't help but notice that religion isn't terribly important to a lot of the people in this world.

There are churches and books and all of that, and I suppose people in other cities might be different, but in Death City, most people don't really go to services every Sunday. A lot of worlds might not have religion at all, or something like that, but with the number of worlds that are similar to this one, I wouldn't think that things had changed that much.

So do other worlds not have religion, or ones that aren't like Christianity and Catholicism, or that don't have things like church? Or do people just not do that sort of thing in this city?

Mm-hm. Any people that have some kind of skill or power or something that most people don't.

In any normal world, all of these powers would be considered unusual; calling such people gods is a logical enough next step if one doesn't have strong beliefs to the contrary. I wouldn't be happy thinking that, though.

Why not? I think being a god would be rather nice.

There's more to being a god than being thought of as one, and more to faith than acknowledging someone as special.

I suppose that would depend on a world's definition of what a god is. Perhaps there are religions where a god isn't supposed to do anything but be adored and obeyed blindly.

Perhaps. I'd hate to be a part of that sort of a religion, though -- as a follower or as a "god".

But if someone is stupid enough to be a follower, I imagine it would be blissful ignorance. And if you were that god, wouldn't it be cruel to take that happiness from your followers?

I'd rather live as who I truly was, and have my followers believe in that. [And he can say that from experience, kind of.] If I could be accepted as a god, surely I could be accepted as a ruler. There's no advantage to lying, only disrespect toward the true Lord.

Do you think every world has a real God, then?

Of course. I'd not be much of a Christian without at least that kind of faith.

[He has his doubts, after being here for so long, but she doesn't need to be told about them.]

I suppose not. They didn't mention anything about people transforming into Weapons and Witches in the Bible, though.

There are plenty of things that aren't mentioned in the bible, so I don't see what that has to do with anything.

Weapons and Witches aren't considered humans in the books from this world. And the Christian God didn't particularly care for things that weren't his precious, chosen humans.

I still fail to see your point. Even if He doesn't have much to watch over in this world, that fact alone doesn't disprove His presence.

I just find it curious, that your faith is so strong in a god that may have abandoned you entirely.

Even assuming he wasn't nearby, it would be the fault of BREW. That's hardly a reason to lose faith.

But wouldn't that mean that the machine is more powerful than a god?

It would be far more complicated than that, but it was your idea and I never said that I believed it.

I suppose I just find people's views on religion fascinating. And yours seem to be quite... steadfast.

Everybody ought to have something higher than themselves to have faith in. It's sad that so many people lack that.

But quite a few people seem to do perfectly well without it.

Managing to live your life doesn't mean that your are at your happiest.

You happiest might not be someone else's. And a god might only bring misery to some people.
