[Beyond has had to restrain himself all the way to his assigned home. It was so hard not to go and follow that white haired moron who just couldn't bloody give him what he wanted. He's sure that L is here now, if not it's that dumb, useless Naomi Misora. Either way, he had an image to hold up and had decided this was the best way to do things. He looks quite like L, only the smallest, most subtle differences that would require the screen to be closer to see or him in front to relay other than some of the mannerisms that he wasn't able to study in full.

He's laying on his bed, arms outstretched in front of him, on his side with a bit of his cheek hidden in the pillow even if both wide eyes are staring into ~~your soul~~ the screen.]

As it seems there is a man who both has my name and possibly the answers to who I am. After being toyed with jerked about even by one of your residents I had just met I profess a lesser tolerance for it at this time. He thought it hilarious, I'm sure, to pretend to give a damn and then walk off to leave me questioning both my sanity, my life as it was and just who I can trust around a strange place that I've no knowledge of, no more than a fledgling. I thought that perhaps it wouldn't make a difference if I asked everyone if they know who I am. I've no memories prior to the room and only that Ryuzaki is significant to me.

There must be one compassionate person within the lot of you, I trust that statistics hold out in there is always a chance of meeting someone who doesn't -- how does it go? -- get off on another's misery still applies here.

[He brings his thumb to his lip, eyes wide and unblinking into the mirror while he's seemingly trying to study it while it broadcasts him.]

Bakura? [this is obviously a familiar name, and a surprising one to hear in this context of his expression is anything to go by.] I cannot claim to know him especially well, but he has never seemed the type for cruelty to me. You are sure it was not somehow a misunderstanding?

It's alright. I've found people who've been very informative if only I could remember how to put the pieces together. I don't enjoy not knowing, but I appreciate your sentiment, Kaworu. Have you been here long?

Fairly long. The war is unpleasant, but I have no desire to return home, so the time spent here does not bother me.

You have not been told about this world's situation yet? Why we are all here to begin with?

Wars are fought with guns and mass destruction. There aren't any such things here.I remember only what we were told in the room and that sounded fantastical even if I assume I was kidnapped. Are we kidnapped? My last memories are that room, if I went willingly, I'm unsure.

You mean the room here that you woke up in? The information given there is all accurate, however fictional it may sound to you. Each world works differently, and as a result some may seem impossible given one's own perspective of what is normal.

But no one comes of their own volition. Some are happier to be here than others, but one does not choose to come here. BREW decides for us.

[Considering the last place Beyond remembers is where he's been stuck in a bite shield and a straight jacket, in the dark with guards taunting him that he'd only just recently been able to grab and embrace ...With a knife of sharpened cement he managed to pull along with him. -- He's happy to be here. that's fine by him.]

I suppose all of that is true.

[He shook his head again, quietly.]

I've no knowledge of fighting. I don't think I've ever lifted a hand against something in my life, the thought in itself is abhorring. They've made a mistake in asking for my servitude.

There have been less qualified individuals brought here. Children, even. No one can claim to understand BREW's logic. But you may have been given an ability as a Meister, or a Weapon form, that could prove useful in a fight.

I cannot fight for those who use child soldiers. I cannot fight, nor will I. If they intend I take the life of anything, I refuse. I may not be able to remember who I was, who I am, but I refuse to believe, feeling as strong as I do, that I would take a life then either.

Is there a way to tell them as much? They might as well reprimand me now if they won't be taking me home.

No one, of any age, is forced to fight. Our involvement in this was an accident. Those in charge feel terrible about it as it is, and have no intention of asking anyone to do anything more than wait patiently until they can send those who want to return home. They are happy to provide the basics for living free of charge, given those brought here had no choice in the matter, and the only ones participating in the war effort are those who wish to fight.

If they're allowing impressionable children to fight, they're no better than drafting them. I also can't believe that bystanders don't become involved in one way or another. Further more I feel as though offering 'not' to and then caring for someone is a little more than tactic or we would not be given ...Forms. I thank you for telling me I do not have to fight.

I believe the Meister abilities and Weapon forms are simply something natural to this universe that are gained automatically upon entry, not out of any scheming by BREW or Shibusen. And even if one does no wish to fight, having those abilities can be useful, as bystanders are unfortunately involved at times, thought not purposefully. This world's enemies, the Witches, have no qualms about dragging innocents into the fighting. Sometimes the city is attacked, despite all Shibusen's efforts to protect it and those living here, and our efforts must be split between pushing back the Witches' attack and defending those who are not fighting.

As for myself, I do aid in the fighting. Because there are people here I care for, and I wish to protect them.

[Beyond flips onto his side, slowly. Really all he wanted to do was get his hands on L. Then he'd go fight whatever the hell someone wanted him to fight as long as they could prove to him they weren't truly using children and that the children were the ones unfortunately caught up in war. That sort of thing can't be helped.]

Is that why everyone fights? Is it selfish of me not to, then?

I do not know why others choose to fight. But there is nothing wrong with not wanting to.

There are all sorts of reasons why one should not fight in comparison to such ones as you've mentioned. Protecting people is honourable no matter that loss of life is all still the same loss of life. Protecting is different than murder.

I speak theoretically. I said nothing nor insinuated any of the above.

We do not often fight real people, either way. The main enemies are the Witches and the Kishin eggs they command -- both monsters. Eliminating those is no more murder than putting down a rabid animal.

[Beyond tilts his head, curious look on his face.]
And so things whom are only creatures have less value than any other? Perhaps you're forgetting your rabid animals may only have primal awareness. Then again I've not witnessed things which you've undoubtedly seen. I may be persuaded if I had someone here I wanted to protect as well.

...The amount of awareness does not matter. If it will save lives, then there is no shame in putting down a monster.

Are they sentient enough to speak to? To converse with?

I have never seen a Kishin egg that could speak, and I have neve come face to face with a Witch at all. During one of the last attacks on the city, however, some friends of mine were faced with a Witch and barely escaped the encounter alive. I believe the Witches are as sentient as humans, but their intelligence is used only for causing chaos and destruction.
