If this is a bad time, I'm sorry, but... [The little girl hesitates and pushes her hair behind her ear, staring down at her lap. She glances briefly up at the camera and then quickly averts her eyes again. This feels so...awkward. When's the last time she addressed people like this?]

We--I've--been told I've been here before. I've already run into at least one person who knows me ad I was partners with him before I left here, but I... I don't remember much of anything.

So if you knew me before I'd like to speak with you, if you have time. Please. [Lain pauses, feeling even more awkward, and she nods] Thank you.

[She's more timid--more Lain--than he's used to, but there's no mistaking that familiar face or voice.]

Lain-san! You're...

[She's back, that's no secret to her. He scratches at the back of his neck, changing tactics.]

Most of the people you knew here before are probably gone anyway, so it's not like you're letting anyone down by forgetting.

[She blinks, surprised, unsure what to say to that.]

That's...a sad thing to think of. I suppose it wouldn't matter though, I wouldn't know any of them right now.

[A pause] ...Who are you...?

Obito. Uchiha Obito. You were friends with a lot of my countrymen when you were here before. My friend, too. I'm guessing from your previous message that you ran into Neji already?

Pleased to meet you...Ah, again. Who else was I friends with from your...world?

[She nods though] Yes, I met Nei when I arrived here. I'm afraid it must have been a big disappointment.

Hmm, probably Hanabi-san and Hinata-san. Those are Neji-san's cousins and they lived with you both back when you were partners. And there was Naruto-san, Sakura-san, Sai-san... And Gai and Kakashi, too.

[So many ninja have been sent home. It's almost sad for Obito to think about.]

A disappointment? No way! Neji has missed you a lot, so even if you forgot everything I'm pretty sure he's just relieved to see you're here again. Probably set him at ease.

A lot of people... But you said 'was.' Are most of them not here anymore?

[She's not sure how to feel about that. There's still a lingering awkward feeling where she feels comfortable with Neji, familiar with him, though there's no reason for it.]

[She tilts her head, curious.] I don't remember how to cook anything. Maybe I can make cookies again one day.

They were very pretty cookies...but they were so precious to me back then that I didn't eat them and...I don't remember what happened to them.

[Which is as vague as she can get while still telling the truth.] I don't think I'm very interesting either, Mr...? [She trails off, hoping to get a name]

[He's flopped onto his sofa, cuddling a pillow he's laying his head on, peeking one eye out of it. Not for being bashful or afraid, just because it's comfortable and he's quirky like that.]

I'm not sure what my name is. I've been told someone here might know it, but I've yet to meet them face to face. I took the name Sai - you're welcome to use it.

Sai, then. [A pause and she adds] Pleased to meet you.

How long have you been in this place?

[He adds easily into the conversation before fluidly switching over to her small-talk question.]

I arrived here not that long ago. Only a few days. It's been quite the ordeal to try to re-arrange life.

Have they told you you've been here before? I'm sure I'm not the only one.

[It's been so long since she was able to talk with people she can't help feeling awkward. Thankfully getting pulled into a strange new world had a wealth of conversation topics behind it.]

No. Only that there was a man presently here whom had the same looks as me to him. ...Has someone told you that? You've bee here before?

[He's sure that's what she's trying to say, but always clear up the information given the chance.]

[Lain is quiet for a moment, then nods.] I was told that. A man met me when I first arrived and seemed to know me very well.

However, I don't remember anything... So there must be other people here who knew me before, but it seems most of them have left already.

[A shake of her head.] It's really confusing.

It's understandable. I don't remember much myself coming here.

[He's looking out at something, his attention can't be on one thing too long if it doesn't interest him - it's just how he is.]

Lain... This may seem strange, but after everything that's happened lately, I'd like to extend an invitation to live with myself and Lee. We have a three bedroom condominium, and you'd certainly be welcome to the spare room.

You don't need to make a decision now, but I'd appreciate it if you'd take it into consideration.

[she can' think to hide her shock before it comes out, her eyes wide and expression bewildered.]

I... Are you certain? I don't want to impose on you, wouldn't it just be stressful?

I'm certain. It would be more stressful to consider you living alone, with the wave of civilian rebellion and kidnappings recently.

..Kidnappings? [Something about that word makes her uncomfortable, far beyond the normal connotation of, you know, being fucking kidnapped. But she can't come up for a source of the unease no matter how much she thinks, so she gives up after a moment and continues]

If you think it'd be better... Is Lee okay with this too?

Yes, the civilians took up arms and kidnapped a handful of individuals. We only just rescued them today and have a few of the organizers in custody for questioning.

[And he certainly wouldn't let Lain be kidnapped again] Lee's find with it so long as you are. He doesn't wish to make you uncomfortable.

The people are angry? Why? If they're resorting to things like that, something has to be done to calm them down. [Not that she doubts they've already thought about that, but her expression is pensive.

At length she nods] Alright. I'll move in with you. I don't have anything to pack, so when you're ready I'll go.

The war here has been going on for some time. The Guests here- those of us brought in by BREW- were sent here to aid in the effort, but we haven't made any visible progress in their eyes, so they took to protests. But the situation should be contained shortly.

Regardless, I'll feel better when you're here. Just give me a few days to prepare the room for you.

Lain-san! It is good to see you again!

[Lee is looking as smiley as ever, though there's a hint of tightness about his eyes.]

Neji did not tell me he saw you already! And I am sorry I am only now responding to your message! I was busy with the operation that was scheduled today.

That's alright. I hope it went well. [She has no idea who this is, but if he puts some things together from what Negji's told her, she can hazard a guess.]

Are you Lee?

[His smile relaxes as she speaks to him. After all, it's not her fault Neji is awful at communicating.]

It did! We managed to save all the captives and I believe the streets will be safe from now on!

And you are correct! I am Rock Lee, Neji's teammate from home! [And current partner, but Neji might change his mind about that now that Lain's here, so Lee's just not gonna say anything that might cause confusion down the line.]
