second dream ♔ voice (june 15)

[sugata was used to living a normal quiet life, so dealing with slow days was alright. but this was getting ridiculous. he wanted to do things! but he couldn't really do a lot due to an unfortunate circumstance. and if he had to watch one more death-themed cooking show he was going to blow. this cabin fever was going to be the death of him.]

What do you all do to pass the time here? Other than working or going on missions. [as much as he'd like to help, he can't really go out on any rescue missions right now.]

[As a matter of fact, more doors do creak this way in Death City. It adds to the overall atmosphere, doesn't it? It's creepy and all that.

The hand grasps at the bag a few times before actually making contact. When it does,though, the bag is grasped delicately at the edge with just a thumb and a forefinger and pulled into the hotel room, with the speed of a snake retreating after striking.]

[The door is in the process of closing, but the two soft words seeem to trigger, at least, a pause.

So it doesn't close completely.]

Sugata? Is there something else you need?

[The voice is the same one the young man would have heard over the network, but it sounds a touch more uncertain and vulnerable.]

[he looks a little startled.]

Oh, ah, no. I'm-- I guess I just wasn't expecting this to happen.

[It's impossible to tell very much at all from the sliver of space between the door and the frame that L is speaking through. The shades must be drawn, as it is possible to tell that the room is very dark.]

And what were you expecting?

Well not this. [he gestures with his free arm.] I take it this is also apart of your fears?

I think that fears are too complicated to explain in such simple terms. If you want to know if I am afraid of you? I am not. Takuto doesn't frighten me, and neither do you.

Right, well that's good to know. I suppose. It would be a bit difficult to continue to talk to you if I frightened you in some way.

Maybe. Once you were accustomed to the power shift that comes with commanding fear over one, though, you might even enjoy it.

Perhaps? But I know I won't enjoy it for long.

Wouldn't.

[L corrects the younger man pedantically through the door.]

You wouldn't enjoy it for long. This is a hypothetical situation; in actuality, there will be no power shift.

Oh no, I'm not much of a drinker. So I guess I'll leave then.

[In answer, Sugata would hear the soft snick of a door closing at the hands of a man whose name he didn't even know. With some people, it was easier to remain anonymous, and L certainly appreciated it when it happened.]
