[VIDEO | January 22 ] DURING THE EARTHQUAKE

[ The screen comes on entirely accidentally -- it seems to be gripped in one tiny little hand and a bit of bright pink hair sticks up everywhere as the entire video shakes and shakes and shakes, the sound of the ground rumbling underfoot thundering. But something seems quite.... odd... about this. Perhaps, because, as the screen is tilted more, it reveals a very happy tiny girl running around over huge shaking cracks and dodging trees and falling branches, jumping up and down and screaming rather happily. ]

YAYYYYYYY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

[ CRAAAAAAAAAAAAAACK.

A huge tree falls down right in front of Yachiru with a huge thump and sends her flying in a random direction through the air. ]

WHEEEEEEEEE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

[ So excitedly! BECAUSE EARTHQUAKES ARE SO MUCH FUN!!!!! ]

[ Yachiru's face falls and she looks confused for a moment, because she's not exactly sure what Juro-Juro means by a serious situation. The ground is shaking and houses are falling and trees are coming down, but that doesn't seem, to Yachiru, to be that big of a deal! After all, when Ken-chan and other members of the Eleventh spar, sometimes the ground shakes and buildings fall down, too! And one time Ken-chan made aalllll the trees fall down in a forest and it was really, really cool!

So Yachiru just blinks confusedly. ]

Um, Juro-Juro, the ground's just shaking, ne. It's not like Hollows are attacking or anything.

[ In other words, it's really not that big of a deal. Everyone knows the ground shakes when there's a big fight, which means somewhere someone's probably having an awesome one. It's just too bad Yachiru can't see it! ]

[really. really. there's an irritated sigh. recalling that she claimed she was a shinigami, perhaps the dangers for humans seemed more trivial to her. which only annoyed him further.]

No, it's not Hollows or witches or whatever the hell else attacking, but it's still a threat to human lives. You may think it's fun, but for most of these people it's not. Fortunately it seems like these buildings are strong enough to withstand most of it, but how would you like it if your house fell on you, crushing you to death?

Or maybe you don't know because you're a shinigami.

But when humans die they just go to Soul Society. Humans are supposed to die, ne. It's supposed to be part of life.

[ It is also what it means to be human, that much Yachiru understands. Her human life ended before it even really began, after all. She couldn't even speak or walk. She's not sure why Juro-Juro seems to think that death is such a terrible thing for humans. ]

[and another sigh. this. was going to go nowhere.]

Even so, you should still at least respect it. And jumping around while everyone else is panicking is not.

[ Yachiru doesn't really understand Juro-Juro at all.

The end of human life is not the end for that soul. She's seen how brightly those souls can shine after they've arrived in Soul Society. How brightly, how strongly Ken-chan shone when he carved through a world tinged in red. That carving up of her world was beautiful, glorious, so different from everything else she had ever known. Back then, when she crawled through dirt and mud from the blood of adults that fell down in the streets and stopped moving with their bellies cut open for the crows to pick out. She did not quite understand what those bodies meant, only the puddles of red all around her that glittered like rubies in the waning sun. But even after she learned the meaning of those bodies, that they signified the ending of a soul itself, violent and brutal as that end may have been, it was beautiful because that end simply meant another beginning. The soul would be reborn in the Human World as a new human to go through the cycle once more. ]

When humans die and go to Soul Society, they don't ever gotta worry 'bout being hungry if they don't have reiatsu like us shinigami, ne. And if they die there, they're born again and they get to live a new life. That's what it means to die, ne.

[ Says very matter-of-factly. ]

Keep thinking that way, then there's no meaning to life nor any reason to protect it. Maybe in your world it's all roses, but where I'm from when you die that's it. It's over—there's no reincarnation. The only thing that remains is whatever legacy you left behind.

And as far as I know, there's no Soul Society here, so your little philosophies won't mean much to everyone else.

As for this world, it doesn't seem to have such thing if my understanding of it is correct. There seems to be only one real shinigami and he's living among the living.

[ Says quietly, because Yachiru's role as a shinigami is very important to her!! Even if she's a weapon here, and doesn't have the powers she used to, she's still a shinigami of Soul Society. ]

Since we're in the Human World we can't see Soul Society from here. But there's definitely a Soul Society, ne. Every human world has one!
