The problem with questions, memories, and interactions is that once they occur they are difficult to forget or take back. I am struck time and time again, as people appear and leave this place, how people are difficult and painful gateways to new experiences..

And yet as they possess the power to bring great beauty and opportunity to learn, they also bring with them the ability take their piece of truth and the spice of their life with them when they disappear from this city.

Truth and memories are horrifically inescapable. Don't you think?

You'd be completely correct.

And what would you think if we could change or escape them entirely? Delete them and move on, so to speak?

Sometimes I wish I could. But then I'd be erasing a part of what defined me.

Are you so sure of that? It couldn't simply be something that could benefit you?

No. As much as the things that have happened that have scarred me, they are a part of me.

So they have, in essence, built you as you stand today.
Hm. I wonder if it makes one less human to have not built many memories on their own.

If you don't have memories, you don't have a sense of self.

[ Hm. There's a long pause after that. It would basically describe what happened to Vincent, without his memories and living in Romdeau, just trying to blend in and become a fellow citizen, doing all the right things and trying to find that something. ]

You have a point. My companion from my home world was very much an example of that before his memories were recovered.

Some memories of things can be painful, especially if you've had violence happen to you. I can see why you'd want to forget that.

But it's still a part of you regardless.

I haven't had violence happen that wasn't.. somewhat constructive.

However there are questions of things that I'd rather not have cause to think about, anymore.

Everyone does, I think. But we don't get to pick and choose our memories. Even if it would be tempting.

It does seem to be something that many would take advantage of. But I have seen the implications of what happens when one voluntarily gives up all of their memories... And I can't help but wonder if it would be the same to pick and choose..

It's probably why we don't get the option. So we just have to learn to live with the memories we have, good and bad.

That would seem to be the plausible way of explaining things. The human experience seems to be a question for all of us.
