[Out of the blue, in the early light of dawn, Genesis' voice comes on to the network. There's the sound of live flames crackling in very close proximity, and he sounds incredibly confused.]

Where... how did I get here? [He murmurs to himself in confusion, not sure of exactly what to say. Then he snaps out of it for a moment.]

Neji, Edgeworth-- it looks like the arsonist has struck again. And at another residential buil--

[But his message is cut short as his attention is drawn to someone crying out not too far from him:

Officer! There he is!! That's the man who set fire to this place!

Immediately, there are footsteps, many of them-- and they all are coming towards Genesis.]

I'm not who you're looking for! I couldn't have set fire to this building!!

[The witness cries out again: Lies! I saw you with my own two eyes!
An officer cut in: We'll hear your story at the station. You'll have to come with us first.

You're Genesis Rhapsodos of the Watch, aren't you? I'm disappointed. I had more faith in you guests who chose to help us with keeping the city safe. I'm confiscating your communication device for now, but I'll let you make just one call.

Then, there's a little shuffle, as if Genesis only realized that the device was still on all this time.]

Edgeworth, Near, Neji-- if any of you are listening to this: I did not do this. And if I actually did, I did not do it by my own free will. I have faith that you will believe me. I'm counting on you to find who really did this.

[That's enough, buddy. You're coming along with us now.

There is the clink of metal: handcuffs, and the feed ends, cut off by one of the officers.]

[Mello hardly ever uses video, but he's rather proud that he came out of a battle with a Witch with only minor injuries to show for it: the bandages on both his forearms are the extent of the damage.

Near was slightly more worse for the wear, but he is the one who had to consume a Witch soul. Now he's awake and on the mend, and though Mello hasn't yet left his clinic bedside (the IV stand and bed railing, but not Near, are clearly visible behind Mello), there are public service announcements to be got out of the way.]

Yesterday, my partner and I defeated the Witch Isabella, and became the newest Death Scythe pair.

[He permits himself the closest to a real smile most people are ever likely to see from him, which skews slightly wicked before he speaks again.]

We might have broken the Grand Canyon a bit in the process. Sorry.

[This entry's strange in that a file is included, labeled IMPORTANT. Might be handy to open it up first and take a look. But there's Kanji looking grim from the very start of the video, not looking at the camera.]

...Yo. I'm gonna make this as quick as I can, but there's some heavy shit I gotta lay down. If ya opened up the file, then ya know what I'm gonna talk about's not gonna be pretty. It's an old poster, I know, but it paints a picture for you, and lets you see what this prick looks like.

His name's Tohru Adachi. He's from the same world as Naoto n' me. Back home, he did some things we thought he regretted when he was caught n' arrested, but... we were wrong.

[The frown deepened. Maybe he was from a timeline where he'd won, but what did that matter now? He finally looked at the camera. His eyes are hard, a steelier gray than normal.]

BREW brought him here, back when it started grabbin' people from different worlds. He was free again, and it got to his head. Long story short, he ate a helluva lot of innocent souls and turned. Bastard's a full-blown Kishin!

[He scowled, ran his hand down his face. Focus... he needed to focus. From outside the frame, a smaller hand settles on his shoulder and squeezes. Kanji glances over briefly, and slowly his shoulders unhitch.]

Shibusen and agents brought in by BREW took his ass down, but then the Witches took him. Since then, he's been a pain in the ass to find, almost disappeared completely.

...'til now. Me n' Naoto found him, and we get the feeling he ain't gonna be where he is for long before he moves on and we lose him again. Shibusen's on board and we're planning a direct attack, but we need a team. We stomp his ass, and we get the information we need to start trackin' down where Medusa's hiding! We can finally bring an end this war!

[The hand at his shoulder lowers to the upper arm as Naoto enters the frame and has a seat. She nods to the taller boy before addressing the camera, far calmer than the visibly-agitated Kanji.]

Some time ago, investigations unearthed an underground tunnel system beneath the desert. Inside, there lies a lingering thin but viable amount of the yellow fog of Kishin Adachi's creation, his weapon. He will no doubt make use of it in the battle as he has before. Therefore, training in the fog in a controlled environment such as this will not only be a boon to us, but an unpleasant surprise for him. As for what the fog does...

[Now she looks warily away from the camera, but it's short-lived.]

Like Madness, it plays upon your fears and anger, but the properties of this fog functions differently. The fog is like a mirror, forcing you to face yourself in its entirety, for good and for ill. It's... something we can't properly explain without a visual.

In any case, we understand there may be hesitation to undergo such an operation, considering the strength of a Kishin. That is why we hope to answer as many questions as we can now and give it our all when the day comes.

To those of you who wish to participate in what will be your toughest mission yet, you have our utmost gratitude. We would be unable to do this without any of you.

...my partner is gone. He... the partner of my soul is gone.

My apologies for the sudden notice, but Shibusen has requested that I deliver this announcement to the Guest population of Death City.

Two days ago, San Jose Costa Rica received a direct threat from Hachi, the Witch responsible for several atrocities and believed to have 'developed' the Clowns we've faced in the recent past. The country's government has approached Shibusen for aid, and so will be lending assistance during this time of crisis.

It falls to us, the Guests of Shibusen, to volunteer our own.

Be advised however, that while the city is once again under evacuation, there are many that aren't inclined to leave a second time and have instead elected to take up arms against this threat in an effort to defend their homes. Due to the strong civilian presence, extra care must be taken to ensure as few casualties as possible.

In other words, protect the civilians as much as possible while fending off what will likely be another wave of clowns, along with a high likelihood of Kishin Eggs.

We're setting out to begin preparations for the city's defense tomorrow. Every hand available to assist would be greatly appreciated. For those interested, we're moving out of Shibusen tomorrow morning. There's no need to state your interest to me, simply show up at Headquarters and request anything you may need ahead of time.

I will however, take any questions.

[From the low lighting and the frosty pineapple-garnished drink in front of her, Morgan seems to be in a bar somewhere, probably the Bitch’s Brew.]

So, those people at the school told me I’m a [waving her hands in air and mimicking the missions desk receptionist] “two-star Meister” now after I came back from that last job the other day. Just what does that mean? Do I get paid more? Or nicer quarters? [There’s gotta be some benefits to go with it, right?]

Or do I at least get to fight vicious sheep and trees with bad breath less often? Why are so many of the mission targets farm animals, relatives of farm animals, and poisonous plants anyway? [A roll of the eyes. She’s supposed to be a Mighty Pirate Hunter[TM], not a dairy farmer!] Do the rest of you end up with those kinds of lame targets too?

[FILTERED to Shibusen, the Agency, and the Watch]

[The camera focuses on Near, barely even visible in the dim lights coming from the monitors around him. He doesn't waste time with polite introductions or small talk before going straight to business.]

We have an emergency in our hands.

[The screen changes to footage of various Death City streets, as Diablo makes his way across them, slaughtering enough people in his path to paint the ground and building walls red. As the images keep changing, Near continues speaking, providing additional info.]

My calculations tell me that this new guest is approximately 20 feet tall, and I don't need to tell any of you how dangerous it appears to be. There is no specific modus operandi other than killing everything in its path, but it seems not to want to go into buildings, unless it's in pursuit of a victim.

[Case in point: the footage shows exactly the scenario Near has just described, with Diablo chasing a woman into a building, causing significant structural damage as he does so, and then returning to the streets, even more blood soaked than before.]

Whoever or whatever that is, it isn't just killing its victims: it's also eating their souls.

[He's sure they all know what that means and leads to.]

I will trace his movements through the surveillance system and keep you updated.

[And now he switches to PUBLIC. Near is as calm as always, and definitely unperturbed by the slaughter and gore happening outside: someone has to keep their cool. Inducing panic in others would be counter-productive.]

This is Near speaking. There is a killer on the loose. [A picture of Diablo, snapped from the cameras, pops up on the screen.]

Don't go outside under any circumstances, and if you are currently on the streets, seek shelter immediately. Do not approach and do not engage this individual in a fight. Following these indications should save your life.

[It's a Saturday morning! Lovely day to walk your dog, or see the (death-themed, skull-studded) sights, or just kick back and relax before the next big invasion with a bowl of cereal and Saturday morning cartoons. Or...you can give a little public service announcement because of all the people BREW has been sending home. Those lucky ducks. Edgeworth has mixed feelings about this - relief because they're better off back home (with the exception of a few who have grown to prefer Death City, maybe), but also unease because the Agency lineup has dropped to a paltry 5-strong team. Why was BREW targeting the Agency in particular?

Oh, and he is 2 days shy of spending a full year in Death City after the rest of the folk from his home have been long gone. Lawyer pride! More like combat lawyer pride...?

His expression is pensive, and his eyes like gathering storm clouds. He exhales slowly from where he is seated at a...dining table. An immaculate dining table, mind. A thick novel is off to one side, on top of a small stack of files.]

With BREW sending home more people and summoning less, the Kuzunoha Detective Agency has suffered heavy losses. While it is generally better to be home and mind one's business than to fight another world's war, it does not bode well for the rest of us remaining.

[A beat. His brows furrow, and he folds his arms across his chest.]

The Agency, the heart of the guests' investigatory and archival efforts which closely coordinates with the Watch, presently has five members. Once again, I would like to extend an invitation toward those who have had experience in these fields - or those willing to learn. Not only are we looking for agents, we need a secretary, a janitor, guards and messengers. Contact me or Near, if you are interested, and either of us [read: usually Edgeworth] will set an interview with you.

[Yeah, the links to their inboxes are right thar. He makes a move as if to switch the communicator off at that point, but withdraws his hand.]

Lastly, a question for all of you: How long have you been here? [Many of the people who have been in Death City for much longer than a year were already gone. Despite knowing that BREW was far less predictable than a game of roulette, that did not stop Edgeworth from trying to puzzle out why it was suddenly bringing home more people in proportion to the number of newcomers they got every month. Was BREW finalizing its lineup for a final confrontation with the witches of sorts? Or was this just another day in the life of a demon tool?]

In light of the recent attack, the Watch is of course, still providing assistance to those in need of it. We have a few members in most parts of the city, so don't hesitate to contact us.

And for those that may have arrived somewhat recently, I'm Hyuuga Neji, current commander of the Watch, an organization dedicated to the defense and security of the city. Please be alert and feel free to contact me with any questions. Thank you.

[The camera turns on to the face of a young girl who already appears to have made herself right at home in the new apartment building. Behind her are various snacks and a few discarded, empty containers, and the redhead herself has a bar of chocolate she's contentedly munching on. She's leaning her head against her hand, taking care to avoid putting any weight on the areas on her face that she has bandaged up.

She addresses the camera, looking a tiny bit bored, or perhaps just unimpressed.]

You know, it makes plenty of sense that, if you want someone around to hunt witches, you'd call in someone who specializes in it, right? [Here, she takes a bite of the chocolate bar, chewing it thoughtfully before continuing.] So, if someone, or something, went out of it's way to go through all the trouble to do just that, what's the point of taking away the abilities necessary for actually taking them down?

[She huffs, expression souring momentarily before letting out a noise of resigned irritation.]

This is the sort of thing that happens when you mess around with wishes and magic, though. It's not something to get other people involved in if you want things to go smoothly. [She's certain this isn't anything new to whoever may be listening, however, and rather than press the issue, she'd rather see what sort of information she can get.] Whatever. Who here can tell me more about the witches and... 'Kishin eggs'? I want to figure out how similar they are to what we had back home.

[It isn't a clean scene because this is recorded in the office. Documents are on their side, unable to be read, and Naoto isn't going to take complaints about organization today; talk to her later if you must nitpick.]

Greetings. While I have a feeling the majority of you know me, I'll introduce myself for the few who don't. I am Naoto Shirogane, Shooting Instructor at Morning Training and Agent at the Kuzunoha Detective Agency.

Introduction and credentials aside, I wanted to report a very recent investigation that my Meister and myself conducted on the cave system located near Death City. There appears to be an odd mist of Madness within the tunnels and while thin, it's potent. We're offering to escort groups who wish to practice combating its affects into the caverns. I advise having a few missions under your belt and not to merely drag a Meister or Weapon with you for this exercise. All interested parties will contact either myself or Kanji, and please do so as soon as possible. We cannot guarantee it will remain for much longer.

Thank you.

How many of you Meisters during this last attack on Death City were without a Weapon partner around when the clowns emerged? How many of you felt ineffectual - helpless - without a Weapon in your hands?

[She pauses, her blue eyes unyielding as she stares at the mirror.]

Now. How many of you haven't been properly training your Meister Abilities? Obviously, this doesn't apply to any of you with passive abilities, but if your ability is one you can control, I suggest you spend some time learning to master it so you aren't fully reliant upon a Weapon partner.

And if you think your ability can only be used with resonance, you're most likely correct. [She then holds her hand up and crimson sparks surround it for a moment.] But there's nothing that says Soul Menace is the only ability that can be used through resonating with your own wavelength.

Every day that I'm not on mission, I'm at Morning Training, ready to help my fellow Meisters learn to master their abilities. Every morning, I wait for someone who wants to learn and no one shows up to my area. I understand that I am not the most pleasant of women, but I am a resource that untapped when it comes to training, Meisters.

Now, I expect to see you at training with me, or we can set up something private. I don't really care which option you take, but if you felt like you couldn't do anything without a Weapon in hand?

Fix that.

Hey everyone!

... I know what I'm about to ask might be a bit weird, since we just got back from a skiing trip, but my friend Minako and I have been talking about setting something like this up for a while, so I'm going to go ahead and ask this anyway.

How many of you would be interested in having a beach trip or something sometime in the future. Not right away, obviously. We did just get back from a vacation day, but both of us figure that gathering interest now and planning things is better than trying to rush it all at the last minute.

[ Not to mention that, you know, people knowing about it in advance would make it easier to not have something else come up and make it so it needed to be pushed back because she hadn't had time to ask about it. ]

Also, if people are interested, what type of food would you like us to have there when it happens? Though I guess we might need to ask again closer to the date, depending on how many new people we get by the time we decide to actually have this.

[ Though you know, maybe she should say something else too. ]

Anyway, I have something else to talk about too. Something a little bit more important than a vacation day. My partner and I are thinking about trying to take on more missions than we have been. But... I'm not exactly sure what's a good balance. Like... how often should we go on more missions?

I mean, I know that we're not allowed to go on one everyday or more than two in a week. But for partners who haven't gone on that many before, is that a good schedule to follow? Or should we try to do one every week instead of two a week? I don't want the two of us to burn out on missions because we thought we were fine and then we suddenly crash, since that's not really going to help anyone out here. Does anyone who's been going on missions steadily for a while have any advice here?

Anyway, I came on here to ask if Meisters can use their abilities without a weapon. I found out that mine gives weapons the ability to freeze things or shoot ice.
