[Truly brilliant. Next he'll be fiddling with the video... aaaand there it goes. SUDDENLY IT IS VIDEO. Hiccup blinks and he flinches back away from the communicator before leaning in toward it, clearly fascinated.]

Oh. Wow. That's cool.

[He grins a little and leans back.]

Oh. Oh it's... oh gods...

[WHOOPS HE DIDN'T REALIZE HE WAS ACTUALLY BROADCASTING AND NOW HE IS FLUSTERED BUT TRYING TO RECOVER]

Sorry! Sorry, I just... um. I'm trying to figure the communicator... thing... out. Um. I kind of come from a time when we didn't have like. Anything you've got here so... yeah. Figuring stuff out! Super fun times. Woo.

Anyway. I'm Hiccup, hi. Yes, that is my name.

Um. So... uh. [HE WASN'T PLANNING ON BROADCASTING WHAT DO] So what do you guys do around here? I mean I know there's a war going on... or something... but how does that actually work? Do we get attacked a lot? And what do you do when that isn't happening? The city is waaaay different from Berk, so... I'm kind of lost here.

I know I'm kind of asking a lot of questions and I'm sorry but. Yeah. Confused. So. Any help would be awesome. Thanks.

[He's more than "kind of" lost but he won't admit it.]

There aren't many attacks, but... there are missions that people go on, to fight the Kishin.

[ Yoichi sounds a little curious, as he goes on. ] Where is Berk?

It's on an island out in the middle of gods-forsaken nowhere. The only thing nearby is the dragon nest and we don't even know where that is.

Dragons? What kind?

[worstvikingever]

A lot of different kinds. Big ones, small ones, ones with two heads, ones that spat rocks, ones that set themselves on fire... the list is kind of endless.

[yoichi]

Why would the set themselves on fire? That seems to be an impractical battle tactic.

[worstvikingever]

Well they're fireproof, obviously. So instead of burning them they freak people out and burn everything around them. So. Not so impractical.

[yoichi]

Oh, I see.

[ after a moment's consideration. ] But that would require close contact. Do you fight them, Hiccup? [ he means to ask Hiccup specifically. ]

Yes.

Well, sort of.

Okay no, I don't. Not personally. But all the adults in the village do.

[yoichi]

Ah, I see. If you employed projectiles, such tactics might be less dangerous...

What do you do, then?

[worstvikingever]

Well yeah, and I built a catapult to do that, but they're a little... uh. Wary of it.

I help out in the forge mostly. Sharpening and fixing weapons and stuff. And I build stuff.

[like the catapult]

Why should they be?

Ah, I see. What do you plan to do here, then?

'Cause not everything I make works real well?

I dunno. Um. Apparently my ability thing involves healing Weapons but I dunno how I'm supposed to practice that or what I'm supposed to do in general at all.

[yoichi]

...well, could you not produce a bow? It's quite possible to make one that is not complex.

I believe you would have to work with a partner.

[Huh. Why didn't he ever think of that?

Oh yeah 'cause no one in Berk uses them.]

Well ranged weapons aren't really a thing where I come from. People like to get up close and personal with the stuff they're fighting.

That is... understandable.

[ Well, not exactly. But he does know a lot of people who like to do that! ]

In any case, do you require additional explanation? I have not been here for long, but I could possibly explain some.

Uh... well... how do you get a partner? Do you just... ask somebody?

[yoichi]

Yes. It is a bit... forward, I suppose.

Temporary partners can be found for missions, but if you become a partnered pair, then you almost always stay together.

Oh. Huh. So it's pretty important to find the right person?

[yoichi]

Yes. There is something called 'Resonance' which allows you to become more powerful, if you can cooperate with your partner.

[worstvikingever]

Right. I remember hearing about that... but how do you know if you're... uh... resonating?

[yoichi]

It's... a unique feeling. You can communicate through your minds, and you feel much stronger.

[worstvikingever]

[Well that catches him by surprise. No one mentioned that.]

Oh. Wow.

Strange, yes.
