A question that ought to be on that list, but for which I haven't got a satisfactory answer yet, is this: Can the madness wavelength be resisted? If so, how?

Strong, stable souls seem capable of enduring it longer with fewer side effects than those with vulnerable souls. Calming Wavelength is a Meister ability commonly used to counteract it, as well.

You're not always going to have someone with that ability around.

What makes a soul 'vulnerable' might be a better question.

No, but a strong will can hold out for longer. I suspect part of the reason Shibusen encourages meditation is to aid in building resistance.

As for what constitutes as vulnerability: mental instability, and particularly those that have been tampered with by the Witches typically succumb to it more easily.

A strong will doesn't always help you. It may do more harm than good, in some cases. Being detached seems to help people resist, but that's shite, because it's only useful in that one instance.

Yes. My Weapon was a victim of their experimentation several months ago. She still suffers the effects of it.

What can you tell me about it?

Not too much. I haven't pressed her for details, as it was a rather traumatic experience for her. I know that she was taken from the city and experimented on with a number of other kidnapped guests for a week until their rescue.

She hasn't been able to deal with the Madness Wavelength well since, and I've had to keep her stabilized when Calming Wavelength agents haven't been available. From what I've seen, others that have suffered similarly react the same.

So the witches have used that strategy before.

What do you do to stabilise her?

Through resonance. It's difficult to explain, but I visualize my soul wavelength smoothing over hers to keep our connection from breaking and to keep her as calm as possible. It's straining and not something I can manage for too long, but effective enough until we can reach safety.
