[Mello hardly ever uses video, but he's rather proud that he came out of a battle with a Witch with only minor injuries to show for it: the bandages on both his forearms are the extent of the damage.

Near was slightly more worse for the wear, but he is the one who had to consume a Witch soul. Now he's awake and on the mend, and though Mello hasn't yet left his clinic bedside (the IV stand and bed railing, but not Near, are clearly visible behind Mello), there are public service announcements to be got out of the way.]

Yesterday, my partner and I defeated the Witch Isabella, and became the newest Death Scythe pair.

[He permits himself the closest to a real smile most people are ever likely to see from him, which skews slightly wicked before he speaks again.]

We might have broken the Grand Canyon a bit in the process. Sorry.

[Good morning, Death City, you better sit tight because these two have some bad news to give you. Both Agency heads look serious, but while Near's expression remains carefully neutral as always, Edgeworth looks like he might excuse himself at any given moment to shed a few tears in private.]

Greetings, Death City.

We know that most of you are still recovering from yesterday's battle, so we will make this unpleasant announcement as brief as possible. We lost two guests during the battle with the Kishin Adachi: Yako Katsuragi and Takuto Tsunashi were killed by the Witch Medusa. The physical evidence left by the vector snakes makes that the only logical conclusion.

[Edgeworth doesn't say anything at first, but manages to rearrange his expression into something more stoic, but there's no hiding how gloomy and grim his gray eyes are. His voice is clipped.]

Her plans remain unclear at the moment, and there is no other evidence pointing to a different culprit. [His brows furrow before he adds:]

Detective Yako Katsuragi and Takuto Tsunashi fought bravely and contributed to our cause. However, if their deaths - as well as many others - are not to be in vain, we must continue the battle.

[Way to go, Edgeworth, you held up for your adoring public. See, Yako's death in particular affected him, so he leaves this final part to Near.]

Edgeworth is right: we must keep on fighting. We've lost far too many people in the past few months, at the hands of Witches, Kishin Eggs and BREW alike, so all we can do is to become stronger and more resilient.

Thank you for your time.

[ Hello again, Death City! Near sincerely hopes all of you are feeling fine and dandy, not because he actually cares, but because healthy (or living / mostly unharmed) guests means more customers, and he is finally going to pimp out Black Mesa over the network. The feed starts out as audio, and although Near hates doing this kind of thing, he doesn’t let that show in his voice; it remains as neutral as always.]

Good afternoon. As some of you may remember, a guest by the name of Matt once founded Black Mesa Consulting: a house call technician business which involves repairing computers, business equipment, security systems, and broadcasting and wireless systems. After BREW sent Matt and his second in command back to their respective worlds, it was passed on to me.

We are currently hiring. If you wish to apply for a position, contact me. If you are interested in our services instead, contact the company.

[He links to his inbox and to Black Mesa’s general inbox.]

One of Matt’s and Black Mesa’s greatest contributions to this world was the creation of the Madness Geiger Counter.

And here is the Madness Geiger Counter, oocly cut to spare your reading lists! )

The MGC is copyrighted and belongs exclusively to Black Mesa, so if you wish to acquire it, do not hesitate to contact us. Needless to say, this device is invaluable during missions, city-wide invasions, or just about any situation in which madness wavelength is involved, no matter how small and seemingly insignificant its intensity may be.

Thank you for your time.

[THANK GOODNESS THIS IS OUT OF THE WAY. Now he can go back to what really matters: building lego structures!]

[FILTERED to Shibusen, the Agency, and the Watch]

[The camera focuses on Near, barely even visible in the dim lights coming from the monitors around him. He doesn't waste time with polite introductions or small talk before going straight to business.]

We have an emergency in our hands.

[The screen changes to footage of various Death City streets, as Diablo makes his way across them, slaughtering enough people in his path to paint the ground and building walls red. As the images keep changing, Near continues speaking, providing additional info.]

My calculations tell me that this new guest is approximately 20 feet tall, and I don't need to tell any of you how dangerous it appears to be. There is no specific modus operandi other than killing everything in its path, but it seems not to want to go into buildings, unless it's in pursuit of a victim.

[Case in point: the footage shows exactly the scenario Near has just described, with Diablo chasing a woman into a building, causing significant structural damage as he does so, and then returning to the streets, even more blood soaked than before.]

Whoever or whatever that is, it isn't just killing its victims: it's also eating their souls.

[He's sure they all know what that means and leads to.]

I will trace his movements through the surveillance system and keep you updated.

[And now he switches to PUBLIC. Near is as calm as always, and definitely unperturbed by the slaughter and gore happening outside: someone has to keep their cool. Inducing panic in others would be counter-productive.]

This is Near speaking. There is a killer on the loose. [A picture of Diablo, snapped from the cameras, pops up on the screen.]

Don't go outside under any circumstances, and if you are currently on the streets, seek shelter immediately. Do not approach and do not engage this individual in a fight. Following these indications should save your life.

I don’t care who sees this, but someone damn well better get me some new clothes! I’m not sitting around in this torn up plug suit just because some stupid machine decided to bring me to this stupid place!

[She shakes the device a little, causing the camera to wheel once again.]

And if someone doesn’t bring me clothes RIGHT. NOW. I’m gonna start kicking all of your asses the moment I see each and every one of you!

[It’s obvious that she is upset as she curses to herself about stupid people and stupid machines and stupid MP Evas, the camera still rolling through her muttered tantrum, the sounds of things being knocked over underlying her words until the camera itself is suddenly thrown and turns off with the impact of hitting the wall.]

Last few days were so much fun.

Black Mesa is back in business. For those who don’t know what Black Mesa is, it's a House Call Technician business, and we fix computers, broadcasting and wireless systems, business equipment and security systems. If anyone is interested or just wants a job, call me maybe.

[ PRIVATE TO: BLACK MESA EMPLOYEES ]
We are going put up cameras all over the city. More, at least. Ones that will actually capture when few people are being kidnapped on the streets after being chloroformed.

The Detective Agency will supervise this since it’s for them.

[ PRIVATE TO: DUO ]
I have a proposal. Not marriage, but close.

[ PRIVATE TO: NEAR and MELLO ]
Thanks for breaking into my place, setting off the alarm and starting the program to erase everything I had in my three computers. That was really awesome and completely necessary.

Near, we are also ready to start setting up the cameras. Whenever you are ready.

[This is unusual enough for Near that, when the transmission begins, he takes a second more than usual to start talking. Something is definitely up.]

Genesis. I want to talk to you, but I don't want to risk this message being hacked.

[Even if he knows the only two people-- okay, maybe three-- who would be capable of doing so. Near just doesn't want to take any chances, given the subject at hand.]

Can you meet me right now?
cardfortress: (determined | Lurking In The Dark)
[personal profile] cardfortress
[Hello Death City, this is your resident stalker Near speaking. He isn’t going to waste any time with pleasantries before getting his message across.]

Anti-Shibusen vandals have invaded the Agency. There were three men initially, but it is unclear how many joined in, and it is unknown whether or not they are armed with anything more than whatever objects they got their hands on.

[The video transmission switches to a few seconds of security camera footage, before one of the vandals destroys the camera and the screen goes dark. The transmission goes back to Near, who is inside the surveillance room, but he isn’t alone: Yako was yanked inside by way of being in the right place at the right time just as Near noticed the vandals closing in on the building, so this is her first time hearing all of this as well. A worried look flickers over her face as she watches more screens go offline, but she seems calm and unharmed on the whole.

Oddly enough-- or not so oddly, for those who actually know Near-- he doesn’t sound or look worried at all, and he doesn’t even blink at the sound of someone being thrown against a door down the hallway.]

It would be ideal to control the situation as soon as possible, given the delicate and confidential information these criminals could get their hands on and--

[The door to Near’s right suddenly opens before he can say anything more; the other head of the Agency sticks his, well, head into the room. Though Edgeworth seems generally calm, there is a glint of urgency in his eyes, a bruise forming over his left eye, and his lip looks like it bled a moment ago. His hair is ruffled - and anyone who knows him well enough might notice that it has been growing longer as of late, apparent in front but more noticeable in the back. After taking a moment to catch his breath, he speaks, mincing no words.]

Near. My ability isn’t enough, and Genesis isn’t here yet.

[Translation: RESONATE WITH ME BRO.

The meaning behind Edgeworth’s words is obvious, so Near only nods in return before turning the transmission off.]

[voice | private to Mello, recorded before the network message goes up] )

Few announcements and a question.

First, I’m Matt and I have a business called Black Mesa. It's a House Call Technician business, and we fix computers, broadcasting and wireless systems, business equipment and security system. If anyone is interested or just wants a job, call me maybe.

Second, I’m doing missions, have a nice record, and kind of want to keep going. So I’m currently looking for a Meister who would be cool with going on missions. I’m a Weapon, a Portal gun; I shoot regular bullets and also create Portals.

Third, imagine you have raw steaks. How hard it is to cook them? And how do cook them exactly?

[ PRIVATE TO: DUO ]

Well... at least they're generous about everything, aren't they?

[The voice is accompanied by the steady 'click-click' of heels along the floor- Cupid is obviously making this post as she walks to her temporary 'home' in this new city. If she sounds a little breathless though, it's more because of excitement than anything.]

I mean, I suppose it's the least they can do, all things considered, but you never really expect to find yourself in a situation like this and actually have people be pleasant about it.

--well, actually, I never expected to find myself in a situation like this at all.

[She laughs a little, seemingly entirely unconcerned with her predicament, and there's the sound of keys jingling, and a door unlocking.]

Whoa- okay, so this isn't... great. Not bad at all but- wow, there is no personality in this place. I'm going to have to do a lot of redecorating... [There's a pause, and the dull thud of a purse being set on a coffee table, and then the 'whumph' of fabric of someone sitting on a sofa.] I guess I'll have plenty of time for all that later though, huh?

[And still, she doesn't sound the least bit displeased. The video finally turns on to show a pink-haired girl, bone-like wings a-flutter with amusement, as she leans forward, setting her elbows on her knees and her chin in her hands.]

In the meantime, I guess I should introduce myself! [Her tone dips a little from cheery to compassionate, and a little more mature- cultured, even.] My name is kind of scary-long, so most of the time I just go by Cupid. And while normally, I stick to monsters, but I think given the situation, I can be a little more flexible-

--so, tell me Death City- what matters to your heart? After all, it's kind of my area of expertise.
