[well, it has been a while since he used the network like this, almost a month now, but he hasn't been feeling very social lately. it's either that he's just had very few people he'd been interested enough to bother with, or he was just enjoying the rare opportunity to be antisocial -- it wasn't really an option back home, not with his position.

but he's been lazing around for long enough that he feels like he's stagnating, and maybe he feels a bit guilty about just depending on yuuri so much, so. might as well just suck it up and do as his friend had suggested. not gonna bother with any introductions for the moment though, he's a bit tired of playing perfectly polite, and from what he's seen on the network no one really cares anyway.]

I don't suppose anyone knows what sort of jobs are available here? This place is...very different from the one I came from, and I can't  really imagine what sort of work is needed. Or what I would be able to assist with, even. It's not as if I've never worked before, but my area of experience is...well, I don't know that it's of much use here.

And thank you in advance, for any help anyone is able to give.

You were not partnered for too long, if that is any consolation. When Sasuke... When Sasuke reacted badly to a situation and left you, you were without a partner for a short while. Then Sai arrived, you got to know him, and the two of you became partners. You left not too long after that.

I don't even have a partner, let alone any real fighting ability. I can't say what might have happened when I was last here, but as I am now I couldn't protect anyone if I tried. I highly doubt I should be doing any sort of guard duty...

I see. If you come to Morning Training there are people there who are looking for partners!

I don't really want one. There's no point if I have no plans on joining the fight.

You... do not plan to join the fight? But last time you went on many missions and did very well. Why the change?

I don't know why I decided to last time, but what reason do I have to do so now? Sooner or later I'll be sent home again, to the same moment I was ripped from, and this place won't have mattered. All fighting would do is open me to the risk of injury or death for a war that I have nothing invested in.

And if you make friends here? Helping in the war helps your friends, too.

Friends I wouldn't even remember upon returning home. It's better not to get too attached to anyone. As long as Yuuri is safe, then I don't particularly care what happens here.

You intend to stay aloof the entire time you are here? That is a bad idea. I know that you cared about Sasuke and that is why his turning hurt, but you should not shut everyone out! There are people that care about you!

I wouldn't say "aloof" -- I'm an extrovert by nature, I need to interact with people at least sometimes. I have no problem talking with people to pass the time and being polite as is needed. But as far as I can tell, the only person besides Yuuri who really cared about me here is gone, and I don't feel like dealing with that frustration more than once.

I was not all that close to you. But I cared. It is entirely possible that others feel the same way. Friendship is not frustration and does not have to be.

[he might be getting better about all this, but it's still pretty hard for him to believe when someone cares. it takes a lot to prove it, and so far the only person who's managed that is sasuke.

In this place, where all I have to look forward to is those people either disappearing and being forgotten? It is nothing but frustration. If I want to make friends, I'll wait until I've returned home to do it.

But you will never get to make these friends back home. And it is possible that if we win the war, we will be able to remember our time here when we return.

And then what? I have to remember people I'll never see again, and mourn the loss of anyone I did care for? No, it's better this way.

That is a lonely and disappointing way to live.

It's not as if I've set myself against ever having friends. I'm just choosing not to bother with ones that are doomed not to last. My closest friend is already here anyway, so there's really nothing "lonely" about it.

How needy do you think I am? If he is busy, then I can wait. And if he is sick, I'll help him. Anyone else is just unnecessary.

You have barely been around to speak with. I am asking if you are happy, not saying that you are not. I have not seen it but that does not mean you have not been.
