( video ) March 13th, early morning

[ It's nearly two in the morning, and Duo looks about as exhausted as he sounds. As if his sleep schedule wasn't sporadic and meager as it could be at the moment from years of sleeping when and where he could, not apparently his mind found this the appropriate time to plague him with nightmares and replays of memories he would rather forget. Dark circles are beginning to form under his eyes and rubbing at them probably doesn't make it any better, but he's doing it anyway.

Unfortunately his first attempt at talking is interrupted by a yawn, but when he does speak it's hushed and drowsy.

I know it's like... ungodly o'clock in the morning right now, and I'm sorry if I'm waking anyone up but.. [ Hold on, it's apparently break time to take a drag off of the cigarette in his other hand, as he sighs the smoke out through his nose a moment later.

Sleep is completely evading me tonight, and I'm wondering if anyone knows a particular 'trick' to getting back to sleep after nightmares? Or just.. a general way that it's better to try and fall asleep with than nicotine and a shot of whiskey? Otherwise that's my next step, because I'm seriously gonna fall out if I keep not being able to sleep..

I mean, my sleep schedule is really messed up but I've never really had the nightmare problem until I came here... Is that like, a common side effect or just me.. ?

Anyway, sorry I'm rambling but my brain is fried. I'd really appreciate any answers...

[[Bakura's face is mostly just lit up by the glow of a TV. It's a static glow over -- a video game on pause.]]

Sometimes it helps to read something you've read a few times before, or play a game you've already beaten, or even watch a movie that you're really familiar with. Something that you can distract yourself with and fall asleep in the middle of.

I cannot guess the source or reason of your nightmares, but I would suggest meditation to put your mind at ease. Clear your thoughts, and peace should follow.

Work on exhausting yourself during the day. At night, if you cannot sleep, go for a walk.

As to the nightmares- [A hestitation.] - I can only say that at least what plagues us in dreams is rarely the truth of the matter.

You could do worse than a shot of whiskey, especially if the problem is an inability on the part of your brain to shut the fuck up.

Or you could stay awake until your system makes you sleep.

[Which is what Mello generally does.]

Given how many of us came here from traumatic circumstances, I'd bet nightmares aren't uncommon.

I used to....have trouble sleeping back home too. A hot drink might help? Or going outside for a bit, looking at the stars. I did that a lot, before I came here. The stars seem different, but there are still a lot. I hope your nightmares stop soon. Is there any in particular you keep having? Maybe if you talk about it....?
hoennmaihime: of course i don't resent that my parents dumped my 7-yr-old brother on me to travel with and raise when i was 10 (still family.)

[Haruka had accidentally fallen asleep in an armchair so the familiar ping of a new post is enough to wake the girl up. After a yawn and some stretching, she decides to quickly take a look before going back to sleep in her bed; she'll respond tomorrow morning if it's interesting.

-or not. Haruka rubs the sleep from her eyes as she re-watches the video, frowning. After a couple of minutes thought she turns on her own video feed to reply, trying her best to project an image of gentle calm. Letting too much of her concern show wouldn't help.]

I don't experience nightmares often, so... I'm afraid my suggestions might only be effective in dealing with regular sleeplessness. But so many people have shared their own methods, so I know you'll find something that works.

I'm like Colette, I watch the stars until I'm sleepy, with a hot drink if it's possible. The light pollution isn't too bad here, so the sky's pretty interesting. And back home, if one of my friends was awake, we'd talk. So this post should help all by itself! [...he can't make a post every night though, can he. Hmm.]

You know...

[...]

...My little brother was guaranteed to fall asleep if you sang him a lullaby. So, if you listened to quiet music, maybe it'd help you the same way it helped him. I-I'm not saying you're a little kid! Just that music's... useful.

-And that's all I've got.

Eating a heavy meal before going to bed will help.

Well, meditating works for me usually...or herbal tea. Or try to find the most boring book you can.

[She looks sympathetic. God does she understand that feeling; hell, she clearly hasn't been to sleep anytime soon either]

I haven't quite been able to figure it out either. usually I just work myself to exhaustion and hope that helps keep me asleep somehow. They have sleeping pills that might help, but... [Well they didn't work for her and she was nervous about overdosing if she took too many, so that stopped them.]

I ave nightmares every night, so I understand. I've just resigned myself to not getting much sleep. Taking a walk or reading a book are all things you should try though, at least.
