You're worried about the recent losses, are you? I'm fairly confident that there's no way to answer your questions.

Most things about our situation are unfortunate, I'm afraid.
trageteas: (worried)

[personal profile] trageteas 2012-03-03 07:43 am (UTC)(link)
That's putting it mildly. It's nearly impossible for many of us.

The city? Or the confusion?

I went back home for a bit. I didn't remember a thing about this place and I was put where they took me from, in order to continue what I was doing.

So I assume that's what happens to everyone else.

I'd assume the same, but that is wishful thinking.

I don't think any of us know that answer for sure.

I... I don't think there is.

Then again, I haven't been here that long. But how... how would you even go about checking that?

From what I've heard, no one has any idea how that thing works.
kingofdisney: (Okay Donald you can let go now)

And what happens if one of us breaks it?

I have reason to believe timelines are essentially on pause while someone's here, and proceed as if they'd never been in Death City if they go home.

I'd assume the same applies if someone dies here, but there's less information to go on.

It is if you're dead in your world. I should know, I am.

It didn't stop them bringing me back a second time.

Nothing.

The last thing I remember from my world was dying. The first thing I remember from here is waking up in that chamber. Nothing in between. It was a different version of me here before, for all practical purposes.

Do you know of cases where it's different?

Does it matter?

I guess that makes sense.

I can't say for sure, but my brother has been here for much longer than me, but as far as I knew at home, he'd never gone missing at all.
topidol: (caught that slow alright)

It is. It's possible that we're all from alternate timelines, even from those we "know". It's also possible that we're just copies of the people we think we are. I don't think we can be sure of any theory.

As far as I know, it stands still while we are here.

I can't answer for the death part, though. Sorry.

Since I have arrived, I have learned that there are multiples of myself. The one who came before me looked like me, but was not me. The one who is here now is me, but is not me. I've met my partner twice before becoming her partner, but the other two of her were not her.

I have returned home... and discovered that no time had passed since I left. Like several others, I returned to Death City, and found that time had passed here.

I have seen many die. The city used to be more dangerous than it is now. Unlike those who are returned, those who die... their belongings stay. Their bodies stay. Their souls... stay.

Therefore, it is my belief that when we die here, we create a version of our world in which we never return. Just as there is a world in which a dear friend of mine dies... there is also a world in which he lives... and there may yet be a world in which he never appears again.

They die here, so I think the question would be, what are the possible consequences of them suddenly disappearing from their worlds? There one second and gone the next.
ih8spiders: (there's always time for reading)

[text]

[personal profile] ih8spiders 2012-02-25 12:27 pm (UTC)(link)
Maybe they simply cease to exist. People who know them could suddenly forget about them. It would be as if they'd never been born. That has frightening, overreaching consequences, however, so I would prefer to think that it could be that they just go missing from that point in time.
ih8spiders: (dark eyes and dark path)

[personal profile] ih8spiders 2012-03-18 09:15 am (UTC)(link)
A cessation of existence might affect the very reality of that world. What if the person who disappeared was important enough to have affected a lot of lives and events over the course of his lifetime?
heirmechanik: (it's safe on the side of caution)

[personal profile] heirmechanik 2012-02-23 01:41 am (UTC)(link)
Would there even be any possible way to know?
heirmechanik: (say you're looking for the truth)

[text]

[personal profile] heirmechanik 2012-02-24 09:27 pm (UTC)(link)
That's what I'm saying. Although my knowledge is admittedly limited, it seems that at present we have no way of knowing.

I suppose we've just got to make the best of it, then.
