[The screen flickers on and Judai sits there blinking at the camera, a small smile on his face.] I’ve been thinking about starting a blog ever since I left Duel Academy. [His comment sounds idle and a hint of exhaustion creeps into his voice towards the end of the sentence. A moment later, he's all smiles though, shaking the camera a little.]

Hey! So, I'm new here! I guess... that's a thing that happens, huh? [He laughs and rubs the back of his neck.] My name's Judai! It's nice to meet you all! Or, I mean, it would be if you were... y'know... here instead of... [He gestures vaguely.] On the other side of a network I think??

[Judai pauses for a moment here and then eagerly reaches off screen, pulling his hand back into view with a deck of cards a moment later.] So I was think that maybe somebody might wanna duel me? It'd really be great! I love taking on new challengers, and since you're all new... [He trails off and his smile falters for a moment before he hitches it right back on.]

So yeah! Hit me up if you wanna duel! I can meet up with you wherever! Uh, so long as you tell me where I'm going. [With a snicker, he winks at the camera.] See ya soon!

[How disappointing. Oh well. Like he would expect anything less? He did here about this card game from that Yami guy though...]

You dueled with a tiger then? Huh...well that sounds better than a plain old card game! What other kinds of things do you get to fight?

Yeah! Well, she wasn't really a tiger at the time? I dunno, I didn't really get it.

[Judai has to think for a minute to try and remember some of the more odd encounters he's had.]

Well, I dueled a vampire once, and a pharaoh, and oh! I've dueled... Yubel... [He trails off a little there and looks a little displeased before shaking his head and smiling.] I've dueled all sorts of people!

[It is, in fact, at this moment that Judai realizes he doesn't know who this guy is. Whoops.] Oh hey... I didn't catch your name!

Huh? Well that's pretty damn strange...

[What the hell were these card games that all these pharaohs and vampires or whatever were playing them? Fucking hardcore card game.]

Winters... [He rolls the name around in his mouth for a moment before grinning.] That's a pretty cool name! Nice ta meetcha!

[A short pause.] ...I'm guessing you don't duel since you thought it was... uh... fist fighting, huh?

Huh...thanks.

[It really wasn't that often when somebody just outright called anything about him cool when they saw him on the video...not that he gave a shit or anything.]

Well I don't duel with cards. I'd rather kick the asses out of someone or something that's trying to kill me personally or I GET to kill.

[Judai laughs and rubs the back of his neck.]

I'm not so big on killing, but... I do like fighting! Fighting can be a lot of fun! It really gets me pumped up! [Fisticuffs or something, I dunno.]

[Well that was a start. It seemed like all of these card guys wanted to fight...but it wasn't like it was the same thing he was talking about.]

Fun huh? Tell me...do people end up dying in these card games?

[Well, that leaves Judai looking a bit awkward, and he glances away from the camera.]

...sometimes. [A long pause.] One of my teachers died because of one... [He is going to refuse to admit that he was the one dueling Daitokuji-sensei for that. Ugh.] And I mean... yeah. Sometimes.

[There was that hesitation he was expecting over death. Most of them didn't seem too comfortable with it. Which begged the question...]

If this dueling shit is so dangerous and most of you don't actually like seeing people die, why the hell would you keep playing it?

[Personally he would, but this wasn't about him.]

I...

[This was something Judai had struggled with for a very long time, so it wasn't the easiest thing for him to talk about, but...]

Because I can help people. Dueling isn't all about hurting and protecting your life. It's about having fun, bettering yourself, and... and... doing the right thing...

[How rare that he would come across a soft spot like that so quickly! He tilted his head with an amused smirk.]

Doing the right thing? You make it sound like this card game really is about life or death for the world or something!

[Blinking, Judai stares at the camera.]

That's because it is! I can't tell you how many times the fate of the world's been decided by a duel!

[Fate of the world...on a duel with cards? Part of him didn't want to believe what Yami told him about the cards, but...well fuck. And he thought his world had some strange shit.]

You have cards that decide the fate of the world and I get to fight a guy that basically resurrects souls into empty shells and has them wear peoples' skin as a disguise.

These worlds are pretty fucking different!

[And he said this so matter-of-factly :|]

Whoa...

[Judai's staring a little blankly right now, give him a minute to digest what you've just said...]

That sounds pretty intense. [Best way he can think of to describe it.] Wait! So is that guy like... your rival or something? [Why would you want to do that though? Ew.]

[Winters liked to say things that make people stop and think.]

My rival? No way! He just made the things I was asked to get rid of! No rivals for me. Nobody stupid enough to declare myself as that.

Card games have to come with rivals, don't they?

Oh. That's a lot more... uh... business-like. [Judai pulls a face at that. Business-like sounds boring and repetitive and he doesn't like it at all.]

Not really, no! I mean, there's this guy who calls me his rival all the time, but he's just my friend. [Shrug.] I just figured rivals was a thing most people did, I guess...

If you say so.

[He couldn't help but burst into laughter. Where the hell did he get that term from for him? Now he'd heard everything!]

Most people don't make rivals out of serial murderers like me, kid. That would be stupid of them, wouldn't it?

[Wait, okay, Judai is obviously a few pages behind here. He blinks a few times and then stares at Winters.]

You're... a serial murderer? [He's pretty sure this is the part where he's supposed to feel awkward or go off about righteous justice, just like the superheroes in comics would, but... well, the guy's been talking to him pretty nicely! And it would suck to lose new friends in this weird place, so...]

I guess it would be pretty stupid, huh? [Cue the mildly awkward laughter. It's not too bad though!] Well, that's okay. I think rivals are over-rated anyway. [Super smooth, Judai. Super smooth.]

[What an awkward laugh he had. Well he was worth a laugh after all! He could at least give him credit for not flipping his shit at him he guessed.]

Yeah I am. Can't get enough of it! I was even on Death Row for a while!

[This kid was definitely hard to read with some of this, but he figured he was trying not to make it too awkward by saying something stupid. Hmmm...smarter than most he guessed.]

If a rival makes you stronger then whatever, right? Some people just need that. The rest of us are either weak or they're strong enough.

[Okay, he's not really sure how he's supposed to react to that. Was this guy killing people here? Well, if he wasn't, then it wasn't a big deal, right? Maybe he had a really good reason... ugh, okay, just talk Judai.]

Ah, yeah, I guess that's what rivals are supposed to do. I dunno, though. I feel like friends do that a lot more. 'cause they, y'know, care about you more.

[Nobody knew how to react to that. Good thing he wasn't killing people here though.]

Friends caring about you more? HA! yeah I've heard something along those lines and shit. I really wouldn't know about that.

[Seeing as the only person he would come close to calling friend was gone. Damn that Cross...]

[Wow, Judai actually thinks that's sort of sad. He scratches his cheek and looks a little awkward.]

You're saying you don't... have any friends? Wow... [Actually, he knows how that feels. He never liked it very much.]
