[after being escorted out of Shibusen (he's particularly glad he was going down the steps, rather than up...) and after the tour around Death City is finished, settling in his currently assigned place of residency seemed to be the best thing to do at the time. after a while, though, he figured that it'd be best to try and reach out to the others, as it was suggested; hopefully it'd help him figure out where to go from here...

so as the feed kicks on, there's a brief moment of wonder ('Is it on..?') before Vincent gives a slightly embarrassed smile]

How did you find out?

As I travelled to Mosk, where I was originally from, I started learning about the proxies more... Eventually, the truth became known when I faced Proxy One... my original self. And that was when Romdeau was already beginning to fall.

[Yes, Mello can see why BREW picked him, tendency to blush aside. To go asking questions when it's all but unthinkable in your world is admirable, Mello supposes. But to ask the right ones is what sets people apart.]

Our worlds are completely different on the face of it, but not so different at heart.

[He does owe Law something, for all the information he's given so freely.]

In mine, too, people lived with themselves by ignoring an obvious truth.

Really? ... it's interesting how different worlds can have similar experiences... more or less at least.

What were they ignoring? If you don't mind me asking...

Fear as a strategy for keeping people docile is a constant in more worlds than yours and mine.

They didn't see that the person killing criminals was everyone's enemy, even people who considered themselves good.

Oh... wow. That's really something. Was this person caught?

Yes. My partner and I caught him.

[Once, Mello would've claimed all the credit for himself.]

Are you going to join the war effort here?

[he nods] Yeah... I want to do what I can to help end this war.

I thought you might. Good. The more people who pitch in, the sooner this'll be over.

[another nod] Right. And once this is all over, we'll be able to return to our own worlds.

[he blinks at that] What...? ...y-you mean... there are people here who don't have a place to return to?

I'm dead in my world, and I'm far from the only one.

[oh... that gets a sad look onto his face] ... I'm sorry to hear that...

Don't be. It's not as if it makes a difference here.

Still... I can't even imagine not having a place to go to after leaving here.

[a pause] ... will you stay here then? Once we're done?

[Mello's been working under the assumption that he can manipulate BREW to let him go back to his world for so long, he hasn't thought lately about whether he actually wants that. He's surprised to find he's no longer sure he does.]

I don't have much choice.

Right. [there's a nod from Vincent and he goes quiet again for a moment.] ... and your partner? What about them?

[There's a silence that's long for Mello, though it would likely be just a slight hesitation from anyone else.]

That'll be his decision, assuming the war ever ends.
