So, this device is a means of conveying instantaneous information? I had heard such tales as possible, but could never scarce believe I would see such a marvel. Aside from Marach’s toad, surely.

[Her eyes narrow a bit and she begins talking into it as though it were a horn.]

Ah… if any should hear this, I would like for you to respond in kind. Though I have no reason to doubt the veracity of my guide’s claims, it would be very much to my benefit to bear witness to this marvel’s ability to transmit another’s visage. Surely were such a means common in Ivalice, the stratagems of the battlefield would greatly benefit.

I have also heard that dissidents have brought war to the people of this city. I would like to speak with the commander in charge of administrating peace in order to assess how he plans on preparing the city and what other benefit I may be to their aid.

Only that it is not so different from the one we had fought. A host of fiends and sorcerers who seek to bring to slaughter the people of this world, with Shibusen and ourselves standing at the vanguard against them. Though of late they've become all the more sinister in their means, seeking victory through sabotage and corruption.

[His tone grows quieter. This part hits a little closer to home...]

...And to speak of sabotage, a more human threat has risen against Shibusen as well. I know not why, but only that they would see us all disbanded, if not dead.

Faces and names? I'm afraid I know naught. I'm told one or more of their number have been caught, but that they've been steadfast in holding their tongues.

Truth be told, I have mostly been fighting the Kishin eggs.

Then that is all that can be said in regards to these usurpers.

What then of the Kishin? Are they truly as great a threat as I have been told?

Not unlike the fiends and lesser demons we'd faced. The witches, however, are the true threat; a force to be reckoned with in combat, but insidious corruptors even moreso.

But neither is to be taken lightly, nor are the usurpers. This was a war taxing enough before we faced another front.

What of us, then? What is our role to be? As conscripts and as ourselves, should each purpose not coincide.

Ultimately, we seek to destroy the kishin eggs, the witches, and whatever dark masters lie behind them. But conscript is not quite the truth of it. Shibusen does not force us into service; they leave the choice to us. We are welcome to simply take residence and not do battle.

But I glean that the option has little appeal for you.

Though I could certainly say I have found sympathy for my sword since my arrival. Being a weapon is not as simple a task as I had once thought.
