[video] 2/6, evening - Megumi vs. the modern HMO
[The video feed comes on to the office Megumi has now occupied in the General Hospital. You can see tatami flooring and a pot simmering on a hot plate. A timer dings in the background and there is the sound of her speaking:]
This is ridiculous. What is the need for all of these papers, I'm up to my ears in them. Taking the time to fill them all out takes time away from where we should be-- the patient's bedside. And why is this "medical board" having us perform so many tests on each patient even when the diagnosis is already clear? No one gets better from running all of these unnecessary tests, but we have to bill them anyway. It's a waste of time and money-- ours and the patients'.
[A man's voice can be heard, it's an NPC supervisor] That's not my concern, Doctor Tanaka. Fill out the files or-- do what the rest of them do, get yourself an assistant and make them do it. I don't care, just get it done. Good day.
[The door closes and Megumi turns around and shuffles back towards where the communicator is. She can be heard cracking an egg into a bowl and muttering something that sounds very much like:]
It's Takani, you stupid ass.
[She cracks another egg for her tamagoyaki, and that's when she notices the mirror was on that whole time.]
Hmph. Figures.
If you are out there, and you're injured-- and I know there are many of you after all of that. Come to the clinic at the hospital tonight or tomorrow. I won't give you the same nonsense or run-around that they are recommending us to. It's my job to get you well and back home.

Re: [Action]
[Action]
I told you it hurts, damn it! The hell're you pressin' so hard for!?
Re: [Action]
[She puts the pad down, then, and dabs a little bit of pasty white stuff from a jar on it. Suddenly Kanji's finger is nice and cool and going a tiny bit numb.]
[Action]
[And considering the scar, and all the fights he's been in, he knows antiseptic all too well.]
[He waved the hand a little to help the alcohol to dry. He wanted to blow on it, but if the mouth was so full of germs - sick, were there really six million!? - he didn't want her to repeat using the stuff.]
Re: [Action]
I'm sorry, Kanji-kun. I wasn't expecting that..... [She examines the bottle of alcohol.]
This is 100% pure isopropyl alcohol? I'm used to using something much less strong. Goodness gracious. What you modern people haven't got....
[She gets out a bandage and wraps it delicately around his finger, being extra careful now.]
You know, I once cleaned a man's sword wound with nothing but a half-drunk saucer of sake? [She chuckles a little.] And he healed up just fine, not a mark left.
[Action]
...Thanks.
Wait, sake?
[Shit. Maybe he should stock up. ...Y'know, for healing purposes.]
You got a talent, Doc. 'f I find myself with a big-ass sword wound, I know where to go, huh?
1/2: [Action]
You know about how ancient people used to offer sake to the gods, and believed it had sacred powers, don't you? People pour sake over graves and drink it at the New Year.
That's why they felt that way about it. It had the power to cleanse the unclean.
2/2: [Action]
[She nods and offers a caring smile.] And I'd do the same for you without hesitation.
[Action]
...Uh, y-you'd really do that?
I mean, not that I'd go lookin' for a swordfight, but...
[Now why the hell couldn't all the doctors here be like her? Kanji had a fear of hospitals after his father's untimely death, but... sitting here, like this, right now? It never even crossed his mind that he was even sitting in one.]
Re: [Action]
[Action]
...I kinda wanted to do that, anyway.
[And down at his work, examining the stitches.]
So, y'know, hit me up during morning training after they start up again. We did pretty damn good during that invasion, yeah?
Re: [Action]
[Megumi made a few backstitches and then made her special knot.]
The worst part of stitches is having them unravel and have to get them again. Backstitching the beginning and end of the line is a good idea when you're working on someone who's very active or is likely to have to fight again right away.
[Action]
Heheh... 'course I am! Been stitchin' pretty much my whole life!
[When he looked back at his own work, performing the backstitch, the gaze was almost... fond. He never thought he would learn something new and damn useful in a place like this, in a situation like they both were with a talent he all ready had. It made his heart pound a little.]
Thanks. For... y'know, this.
Re: [Action]
[She's silent for a moment, as she listens to the sound of the rain pattering. She inspects his stitches closely. They're perfect.]
You know, Kanji-kun. If you're interested in learning this sort of thing-- how to treat wounds, how to perform first aid? I'm looking to become a medic on the battlefield, in this war against the witches. But there are things I lack.
[Action]
[But he was absolutely rotten academically, barely scraping by. Kanji wasn't sure he could learn, much less retain the knowledge.]
Yeah? What's that?
Re: [Action]
Two, an assistant. Even if I had the brawn, some jobs simply take more than one person. If I need to perform surgery, for instance. I'll need someone I can trust to hand me the correct tools and watch my back.
[Action]
We get some resonance practice in, and I think we might have a little somethin' goin' here, right?
[He still needed to ask Tifa about a partnership... but he had considered the idea of dual resonance.]
Re: [Action]
I think you can, too. You have what it takes to help people. Let's try it.
