[Shibusen can be seen in the background. Hughes is about halfway up the steps.]
So...can someone explain to me why this place needs to be so high up? I mean...is it supposed to keep people from getting up to Shibusen or something? Isn't it a bit inefficient for it to be so far up for the people that work or go to class here though?
[He turns and continues walking.]
But the view is nice. I suppose that's a bit of a reward... I might be biased though since I like watching the sun rise. It really is nice though. [He shifts the communicator to show what he is talking about.] See?
[The camera turns back and faces Hughes, but he is looking up the steps and focused on climbing. He pauses a bit before he continues speaking.]
...a couple years back—well, before I came here—my daughter was still a wee little thing. Sometimes she would wake up crying, a little before the sun came up, and I'd take her outside so my wife could sleep. I'd walk around the yard for a bit while rocking her, and she'd eventually drift off again. Surprisingly, I never got complaints from the neighbors, hehe. But then I'd sit out at the end of the walkway and watch the sun rise. It was calming.
[After another pause, he glances down at the communicator and chuckles.] I guess most of you probably can't relate to that, hahaha. Sorry, I'm just an old fart, heh. The sun here has a face anyway, so that's a bit different. [He looks back up again.] I'm just really bored though. It's early, and there isn't really anyone around, and there are a helluva lot of steps. I'm sure you can let slide something like that right? At least I'm not posting a billion messages this time...hehehe.
[There is another pause before he stops and glances at the communicator again.]
Okay, I'm out of stuff to say, hahaha. I'll leave you guys alone.

Oh, yeah. I'm still going to race you up this thing, so you better get ready, hehehe.
