[video] 2/6, evening - Megumi vs. the modern HMO

[megitsune]

[The video feed comes on to the office Megumi has now occupied in the General Hospital. You can see tatami flooring and a pot simmering on a hot plate. A timer dings in the background and there is the sound of her speaking:]

This is ridiculous. What is the need for all of these papers, I'm up to my ears in them. Taking the time to fill them all out takes time away from where we should be-- the patient's bedside. And why is this "medical board" having us perform so many tests on each patient even when the diagnosis is already clear? No one gets better from running all of these unnecessary tests, but we have to bill them anyway. It's a waste of time and money-- ours and the patients'.

[A man's voice can be heard, it's an NPC supervisor] That's not my concern, Doctor Tanaka. Fill out the files or-- do what the rest of them do, get yourself an assistant and make them do it. I don't care, just get it done. Good day.

[The door closes and Megumi turns around and shuffles back towards where the communicator is. She can be heard cracking an egg into a bowl and muttering something that sounds very much like:]

It's Takani, you stupid ass.

[She cracks another egg for her tamagoyaki, and that's when she notices the mirror was on that whole time.]

Hmph. Figures.

If you are out there, and you're injured-- and I know there are many of you after all of that. Come to the clinic at the hospital tonight or tomorrow. I won't give you the same nonsense or run-around that they are recommending us to. It's my job to get you well and back home.

Un! Same for you! With everything... I feel like I need to track down everyone I know, to make sure they all made through it okay...

[She gives a soft snort]

I know what you mean. There are a few I still don't know about.

Ah, well. They know where I'll be. Not like I'm leaving anytime soon.

[shiromadoushi]

[[There's a moment where he just... pauses, as if unable to speak for just a second, before he gives a faint smile]] Too maybe people needing your help?

[megitsune]

[She makes a sound of agreement.]

Right. I'm not leaving while there are people suffering like this. I can't relax while someone is needing to be treated.

[shiromadoushi]

[[a small nod]] Did you want me to bring you some dinner while you work? [[since it's not like he can help out any other way]]

[megitsune]

.....Dinner?

Heavens, no. I can't ask you to do such a thing. It's late, you should be reading books and such.

[shiromadoushi]

It's not that late. [[and he's more likely to be playing his video games than reading...]] I'd normally be at work later than this. It wouldn't be any trouble.

A boy your age is working so late at night?

[Now Megumi looks sad. Poor, poor boy!]

Are you trying to pay off a debt, perhaps?

[shiromadoushi]

[[blink blink]] No... it's just good to have some sort of income, since really, only the basics are covered. [[and video games and fantasy novels and sweets were sadly not considered basics...]]

And really, it's not a big deal, back home, I was already helping out at the museum, which was sort of like a job! [[Just one working for his father, that was all]]

[megitsune]

..."museum"?

[She tilts her head to the side. That's a strange word, what is that?]

[PLEASE TELL HER IT'S NOT SOMETHING FROM THE NAUGHTY SIDE OF TOWN, RYOU-KUN]

[[WHY WOULD IT BE SOMETHING LIKE THAT, LOOK AT HIM, MEGUMI-SAN. IS THAT NOT THE INNOCENT FACE OF A NAIVE MORON KID?]]

Un, my father owns Domino museum, and I help him out with some of the paperwork and the exhibits. I've been working on a diorama for the Egyptian room, making a replica of the capital city and area around it!

[megitsune]

[E-gyputo?! How exotic!]

Oh! Are you perhaps speaking... of a government building of some kind? Is that what a "museum" is?

[shiromadoushi]

Aaa--- I guess you could think of it a little that way! A museum is a place where you keep artifacts and historical things and art and cultural things like that, so they're both protected and that people can see them. Domino Museum is mostly a history museum, with some art, but mostly historical art and things of cultural significance rather than anything modern.

[megitsune]

Ah, I've never heard of this. How interesting. You keep treasures out so that people can come and see them, do you?

What is the point of having people come to see them? Is it to impress them with power or... perhaps to teach them about history?

[shiromadoushi]

The second. Something like the museum... while I think there's a little showing off involved, it's more the "This thing is amazing, come see it," sort, rather than trying to boast. I don't think most people even know who owns the museum... [[admits sheepishly]]

[megitsune]

Who does own the museum? The emperor?

[shiromadoushi]

Aaa-- no, it's a private museum, not a public one. My father owns this one.

[megitsune]

Your father! Are you serious? He owns such important things.... he must be a powerful man indeed.

[shiromadoushi]

[[shakes his head]] He's not anything like that. He's just worked really hard, is all. And had the really good luck to be able to buy it when he did.

[megitsune]

Hmmmmm. A hard worker is a rare thing, unfortunately. You must be very proud to be the son of such a hard working man, Ryou-kun.

[shiromadoushi]

Un. [[nods]] I just hope someday he'll be proud of me as well...
