[Some of you may be used to this beaming face being on your screens by now. Some of you may not. You are the lucky ones. But now you're exposed to it, and the owner of this face is unfortunately loud. He's cheerful, as is usual]

Good morning, everyone! I hope that all of the new arrivals are starting to get used to the city! I have spoken with some of you, but not all, and I hope to eventually meet with everyone!

I am Maito Gai, and there are two things I want to cover in this message. The first is Morning Training! By now you have heard of the war, I am certain. The best way to prepare for this is to attend Morning Training, held at the Training Grounds from six in the morning until nine! That is why it is called Morning Training. We teach partnership, basic, intermediate, and expert fighting, how to fulfill your role as a Meister or Weapon, and other things! Breakfast is provided so all should come!

We could use more teachers, if you have been here for a time and wish to help, or know things about fighting that you can teach. BREW has sent home more of the people who help and so we are... shorter than usual. I appreciate the help of anyone who teaches!

The other thing I wish to talk about is the Watch. I, along with my Meister Kakashi, am in charge of the Inner City Residential District. If you need assistance there, or something goes wrong, please do not hesitate to let me know!

I had the idea of Team Dinners, once a week, just us four. I have already spoken with Neji about it, but what do you think, Lee and Tenten? When is best for you two? We do not connect enough here!

I have a few questions if you have time! The first is if a few people in the city work to make everyone happy, and succeed, can the city be renamed to Happy City? Or Joy City? Or something like that? Because Death City is a very grim name. Also, has anyone tried hugging a Witch to defeat them? And finally... How did the war begin?

[He's vaguely surprised that Gai doesn't break in and spends a moment staring at the frame like he expects it to shatter as he pulls on his shoes. Neji opens the door and slides out, closing it behind him before Gai can announce their excursion to a pet store where Lain and his cousins can easily hear]

I still think this is unnecessary.

[Gai smiles widely as Neji joins him in the hallway.]

I think it is perfect! You will feel better when you have a little turtle in your hands, relying on you for affection and safety!

[Happily he leads the way down the stairs and out the building.]

[He can admire the bit of logic in that statement and follows along mutely, wondering how he might be able to wriggle out of it anyway. But he'd go along and worst case scenario showed him Gai appearing in his doorway with that same wide smile and a turtle in hand. His chances didn't look good]

I don't think they need much of either; they aren't ningame.

Neji, Neji, Neji.

[His tone is gentle as he shakes his head.]

Every living creature appreciates affection, whether they are fighting companions or an owl. Turtles are very fond of it! Littletail especially likes to be held!

[He considers going at a jog, but realizes quickly that Neji might not keep up, on purpose. A walking pace to the mall it is, then.]

We will find you a very affectionate one!

[He considers asking how anyone can tell a turtle of all things likes something, but he's never been the best with animals and he doesn't really expect that to change much]

What about fish?

You cannot hold a fish.

[He can see the mall from here and he's getting excited. This is an opportunity to pass a turtle on to Neji and see how that goes! After all, it's not like Lee can summon Ninkame, and Ninkame didn't like Tenten at first.]

And turtles are symbolic, too! You know what they mean to me!

[He didn't figure the suggestion would get him anywhere, but it'd been worth a shot. An aquarium of fish would look nice in the apartment, at least. Neji graces the view of the mall inching closer with a sigh lacking any of the enthusiasm Gai felt for the venture]

If you insist.

[They enter the mall and Gai takes a moment to figure out where the pet shop is. Aha, that way. Happily he leads on.]

Of course I insist! It will be my gift to you! Would you like a boy turtle or a girl turtle?

[It's not hard to follow Gai even when he's paying less than half attention as he wonders how to explain everything to Lain and his cousins later]

Whichever is fine- just not both. [He doesn't need an army of turtles to take care of. But he recognizes the pet store they step in where he'd gotten Lain's puppy for Christmas, and pale eyes sweep over the store and past everything to linger where birds are kept in cages. He frowns, then swings his attention back to Gai]

I don't suppose there's much of a difference.

[He follows Neji's gaze to the birds. Is his student yearning for one of those instead? Gai doesn't know. But birds aren't really the reliable sort, not like turtles. Or even dogs. Maybe he'll ask another day about birds, see if Neji is feeling talkative on the subject. Gai will look for an opening.

In the meantime he leads the way to the turtle tank, observing them swimming for a few moments. One edged its way to the water from their rocks, looking in, hesitating. The one behind it shoved the first turtle in and wandered back to a warm spot. Gai looks from Neji to the turtles and back.]

We will take that one.

[He's pointing to the little turtle that shoved the other one.]

[Surprised by that little display of personality, Neji watched the other turtle swim away and glanced up at Gai]

Why that one?

Would you prefer the other? I thought that you would like one who is strong-willed! It clearly will be more than just a turtle!

[He waves one of the workers over while waiting to hear which one Neji would like of the two.]

No, that's fine, I'd just wondered.. [Wondered if perhaps Gai was trying to imply how similar his own behavior had been, and decided he needed a turtle to reflect it. Clearly he's had too much time to think, lately.

But his eyes do follow the other little turtle, curious before he looks back to the one Gai selected]

What does it need?

Wondered? [But then the topic is the turtle and Gai is distracted.] A tank, and I can get you that as well, and the rocks you will need as well! Then you add water and it is all set! Also I can get you started with food. They do not need a complicated diet, but I can give you a list of what they eat! It is not hard.

[Gai accepts the little turtle in its carrying case and holds it out to Neji after glancing at it.] I cannot give him a name, though. That is for you to do.

[Neji accepts the case, still looking a little skeptical about the entire thing- particularly when it comes to names]

..I'll consider it. [Which mostly means that the turtle will have a name if and when something suitable occurs to him] We get the rest of that here?

Of course! [Cheerfully Gai leads the way through gathering all of the other needed items, chattering about feeding patterns and how to show turtles the proper affection because they deserved it too. Finally they're checking out, and Gai has all of the other items.]

Let us take your new little turtle home! He looks like he will be happy to stretch out his legs again!

[Neji isn't sure if Gai's making blind assumptions, or if turtles really have readable moods. He'll find out one way or the other in the course of feeding it and leads the way out of the store]

Hopefully Hinata-sama, Hanabi-san, or Lain will take a liking to it as well.

[Gai is totally convinced that turtles have personalities and moods. But he was also inordinately fond of them, so he could be biased.]

I do not see how they could not! And he. You can tell because of the length of his neck! He shall swim and cuddle his way into everyone's hearts, I am certain!

[Happily he follows, not struggling with the load at all. It's light, for him. Gai wonders for a moment if he should have bought more rocks just so this would be heavier, but then he realizes he would have needed something to do with the rocks, so it's probably best this way. He can lift weights later.]

Where will we be putting him?

[He's pretty sure turtles are entirely capable of 'cuddling' at least- in the normal sense of the word anyway- but neglects to mention it]

We have space in the living room.

Neji! That is perfect!

[Gai beams from ear-to-ear.]

He will always be able to help welcome your guests, and be a part of things! He will appreciate this!

[Gai's pace speeds up in excitement, and he soon takes the lead on the way back to the apartment.]

[He didn't really think about it that way, but so long as it works and Gai's happy.. Neji follows at a more leisure pace, but enough to make sure he doesn't lose sight of Gai until they reach his place.

Neji opens the door, announcing Gai's visit to anyone else that might be home before moving into the living room and searching for a suitable, out-of-the-way spot to put the tank]

Against the far wall should be fine.. Perhaps he'll enjoy the view of the patio.

I am certain he will! Turtles are very social

[Gai finds the far wall as suggested and begins setting things up promptly. There isn't a need to keep the little guy trapped any longer than needed. He probably wants to stretch his legs!]

We will need water, lukewarm. Reptiles do not like the cold that much.

[Neji watches, not sure how everything is supposed to go himself, and leaves in search of something large enough to carry a decent amount of water in. After a few minutes, he reappears with two buckets of lukewarm water]

How full is the tank supposed to be?

One moment.

[Gai finishes building the rock structure up, nodding as he adjusted it.]

Enough so that he can easily climb back on the rocks after swimming, and so he can slip into it as well when he is done sunning!

I see.

[Though it's far from an exact measurement and he doesn't know how capable the turtle is of climbing. He'd just have to see for himself.

Neji pours both buckets of water in, careful not to disturb the structure]
