[Truly brilliant. Next he'll be fiddling with the video... aaaand there it goes. SUDDENLY IT IS VIDEO. Hiccup blinks and he flinches back away from the communicator before leaning in toward it, clearly fascinated.]

[He grins a little and leans back.]

[WHOOPS HE DIDN'T REALIZE HE WAS ACTUALLY BROADCASTING AND NOW HE IS FLUSTERED BUT TRYING TO RECOVER]

Sorry! Sorry, I just... um. I'm trying to figure the communicator... thing... out. Um. I kind of come from a time when we didn't have like. Anything you've got here so... yeah. Figuring stuff out! Super fun times. Woo.

Anyway. I'm Hiccup, hi. Yes, that is my name.

Um. So... uh. [HE WASN'T PLANNING ON BROADCASTING WHAT DO] So what do you guys do around here? I mean I know there's a war going on... or something... but how does that actually work? Do we get attacked a lot? And what do you do when that isn't happening? The city is waaaay different from Berk, so... I'm kind of lost here.

I know I'm kind of asking a lot of questions and I'm sorry but. Yeah. Confused. So. Any help would be awesome. Thanks.

[He's more than "kind of" lost but he won't admit it.]

Well yeah, against the dragons. I mean we kind of called it a war even if it wasn't exactly one? I dunno.

...okay. And what do the kishin eggs have to do with witches again?

Heeeeeh, dragons? Real dragons? [[Sure, there was one in Death City, but that hardly counted since he hadn't seen him in person.]]

Aaa-- and the eggs work for the Witches, I think. Or the witches work for the eggs... I'm not too sure how it all goes, since the eggs are sort of monsters that just cause destruction and the witches seem to be the ones who are organized.

Yeah, real dragons. Kind of a lot of them. Not all that nice, either.

Oh. Huh. That makes sense, I guess.

Aaa-- sorry, sorry. I wouldn't expect they would be. That kind of thing just doesn't exist back home outside of stories, so... [[Awkwardly rubbing the back of his neck.

Yeah well nothing here exists back home, and we don't even have stories for it so. There you go.

Aaa.... sorry... [[That distinct feeling like he put his food in his mouth? He has that, right now.]]

[He shrugs.]

I have this bad habit to say the wrong thing without thinking about it, I really should know better than to just say things like that...

[[a pause]] Aa! That reminds me, I got you a copy of that book, the one that explains how things work?

[he brightens]

Oh you did? Cool! Can I see it?

Sure! It's for you, after all! Did you want me to bring it to you or did you want to come over and get it? I don't mind either way!

Uh... well either's fine except I'm not sure I remember where your place is.

Do you remember how to get to Death City Heights at all? If not, you're in Casualty Communal, right? I can just head there.

I kind of think I do, but I'll probably end up completely lost, so maybe it's better you come over here. And yeah, the... Casualty Communal yeah.

Still getting your bearings? [[smiles]]

Which room are you in? I can be there in... aah... maybe 15 minutes?

Yeah, I guess. I mean it's only been a few days, you know? And this place is a lot bigger than my village.

[[and good to his word, about 15 min later, there's a knock at the door.]]

[Oh hey that's a knock on his door. Hiccup goes to open it and grins a little at Bakura.]

Hi. [[and with a smile, he holds out a colorful hard cover book.]] Here it is. Tomoe-san said it was pretty helpful when she was trying to figure things out, so hopefully it'll be for you as well. It's a kid's book, so they explain a lot of things really simplistically so it shouldn't be too confusing, I hope!

[[Though Tomoe had been from an era that did have electric and trains, but only just barely... Hopefully it would still help.]]

[Hiccup takes the book and looks it over curiously.]

There's other more complicated ones in the library, real encyclopedias and things like that, if you want more, since you said you like leaning about that sort of thing.

Yeah, but I kinda like figuring it out for myself a lot too. I mean. We don't have a lot of books where I come from, so... yeah. But this'll be a really good start.

Like taking things apart or something like that?

Yeah, I guess. I mean I'd like to, but I don't really have anything to do that and I wouldn't really know what I was looking at, probably.

Mmm... maybe like... one of those kits that you build something from might help? They have them for models with the electric parts inside, I think...
