[Truly brilliant. Next he'll be fiddling with the video... aaaand there it goes. SUDDENLY IT IS VIDEO. Hiccup blinks and he flinches back away from the communicator before leaning in toward it, clearly fascinated.]

Oh. Wow. That's cool.

[He grins a little and leans back.]

Oh. Oh it's... oh gods...

[WHOOPS HE DIDN'T REALIZE HE WAS ACTUALLY BROADCASTING AND NOW HE IS FLUSTERED BUT TRYING TO RECOVER]

Sorry! Sorry, I just... um. I'm trying to figure the communicator... thing... out. Um. I kind of come from a time when we didn't have like. Anything you've got here so... yeah. Figuring stuff out! Super fun times. Woo.

Anyway. I'm Hiccup, hi. Yes, that is my name.

Um. So... uh. [HE WASN'T PLANNING ON BROADCASTING WHAT DO] So what do you guys do around here? I mean I know there's a war going on... or something... but how does that actually work? Do we get attacked a lot? And what do you do when that isn't happening? The city is waaaay different from Berk, so... I'm kind of lost here.

I know I'm kind of asking a lot of questions and I'm sorry but. Yeah. Confused. So. Any help would be awesome. Thanks.

[He's more than "kind of" lost but he won't admit it.]

So I'm sure everyone's been asking you this, but are you a weapon or a meister? I'm a meister myself.

Yeah, it's pretty much the question of the week. Apparently I'm a meister.

Cool! So are you thinking of finding a weapon then?

Well I hadn't really been thinking about it.

[HE STILL DOESN'T REALLY GET THE WHOLE PARTNERSHIP THING]

I mean, you don't have to if you don't want to, but it's the only way to go on missions... and missions are the only way you'd want to get out of Death City.

You should do some training first though, even if whoever you go with has experience.

Yeah. That makes sense.

[but what is up with partnering]

[tauborn]

I mean, you should make sure you practice wielding whoever you think you want to go with.

[His tone turns suddenly very serious. He looks directly into Hiccup's eyes through the communicator.]

And no matter what anyone else says, having a partner is not like getting married, and there is no evidence that kissing your partner increases resonance.

Usually people live with their partners because the more time you spend together the more you understand each other, and that improves resonance. But uh, it's like living with a really good friend--usually--and there's nothing to support whether kissing affects that.

[Trust Takuto on this one. He's asked around. Attempted to test it once, but... was thwarted in a way that doesn't make him eager to attempt it again.]

[Okay, he's starting to look a little embarrassed now.]

Well, when I was new here, someone... someone told me it was true. ...He also said you're supposed to get down on one knee and propose to your partner, and that's also not true....

[Oh. He knows people who would do that kind of thing. Hiccup rolls his eyes.]

[He shrugs.] It turned out alright, though it was pretty embarrassing for a while.

At any rate, you don't have to have a partner to go on the missions, but you'll need a weapon for sure.

[He shrugs.] I'm sure you'll figure all that out eventually.

[And then something of a mischievous smile creeps onto his face.]

Though, since the rumor about kissing exists, if you really want to kiss a weapon, you might be able to get away with it~
