[Mello tries to pull his leg away, but the puppy seems to see this as escalation of the game, and gives a little bark before seizing the leather again.]

[Mello frowns, because he doesn't have a good answer. He's been arguing that Near should care, even though either one of them could be sent away any time, which is different in practice but not in theory.]

He can't even take care of himself. We're talking about an adult I'd bet money has never been inside a grocery store.

Maybe it would be a good idea to get a pet then. Learning to take care of it might help both of you learn how to take care of yourselves a bit more, right? Since there'd be someone reliant on you that you wouldn't be annoyed at.

But there are so many things you can do with a pet that you can't do with the dependent you have now. After all I'm sure he's not the type of person who'll play tug of war with you or drag you out for walks and after every small critter he spots. [[grins bit impishly]]

Besides, maybe it might help teach him out to take care of himself, if you can get him to help you take care of it.

I think the twit needs remedial lessons in shit like shoe-tying and water-boiling before I can turn him loose on a pet, anyway.
