[Forgive him for doing this a little late, but he's been busy adjusting to his new surroundings as well as learning about the responsibilities the other Roy had undertaken while he'd been here. He could see how they came about to a degree, and he'd likely be agreeable to possibly continuing them if he was asked to. He'd cross that bridge when he got there, however.
The man currently on the feed might actually look familiar to some, though there's one glaring difference between him and his previous counterpart. That being the obvious lack of an eye patch.]
Good afternoon, Death City. Roy Mustang. I've been made aware that this isn't the first time that someone bearing my name has been here.
[The idea of an alternate universe is still something like out of a novel. If he didn't already have physical proof of other more outrageous things happening here, he'd still be somewhat hard-pressed to believe it.]
Unfortunately, I am not the same man who was here previously. From what I've heard about him, he was apparently from a different timeline.
However, while I have no memory of this place, or the people who once knew this man... I am willing to help this city in the same manner as my counterpart did, if those in charge here are all right with that.

[He sighes kind of frustratedly, not really sure how to say exactly what he wants to say.]
It's like you're just accepting whatever the guy before you did like you're the same person.
[He doesn't mean it to sound like an accusation of Roy being an imposer, because in all honesty, that would more fit the former Roy to him since they were from different worlds. It sounds harsh inevitably though.]

I suppose it might be better to ignore everything the man did, and attempt to start with a clean slate so to speak?

[And it's what he wants to advise, but it's clear to him already that being from different versions of their world didn't really make either of the Roys very different at all. It was what gave him such pause over whether or not different versions had the same soul or not.]
Besides, you're probably only good enough to be a normal "soldier" again anyway. [And there comes the obnoxiousness.]

Except you're definitely right. He shouldn't try and take on the responsibility just because the other Roy had it! Besides, I'll bet he's just been slacking off back home, anyway. You could probably even beat him in a spar! [Hughes would not be Hughes without a little teasing and goading. And, hey, who knows? Maybe Ed could win when alchemy was taken out of the equation.]

I could always beat him in a spar! It doesn't matter how much or little he's been slacking off, there's no way I'd let him beat me.
