[returning to text for this -- trolls seem to prefer it anyway, and he can't be sure about the other one just yet.]

I intend on participating in the coming mission, alone if I must. Before that, however, there are some people I would like to have a word with.

Why have you not found a permanent partner, if you think it so important?

Oh, I always have a partner when I need one. It's just not always the same person. And...well, not a lot of people are well-versed in using a whip. And that number's been shrinking lately, since they've been finding other partners as well.

I don't mind not having a permanent partner, much; I just don't want to be useless.

There are walls between the hearts of humans where I come from -- and elsewhere as well, I would assume. That barrier is what keeps man fundamentally alone but also retains their individuality. There would be no humanity without such separation, but it means that to be human is to be in pain.

So perhaps it is a good thing that this place allows people to cheat, somewhat, and feel the souls of others without losing themselves. The relationship between a Meister and Weapon is made out to be a very intimate and specialized one, but is it really better to remain limited when one could know so many?

Admittedly, I do not know enough about the dynamics of these abilities and types of partnerships to judge them properly.

Well , yes, when you put it like that, it does sound lonely. But it could be argued that without that pain, people would be unable to recognize happiness. They would be content and supported, never alone or hurting, but without a comparison that could help them truly appreciate that state of content safety. It's kind of a double-edged sword if you ask me...but I'm not the one who designed my race, so I probably shouldn't cast stones.

I've done something almost similar to Resonating back home, but just once. Ironically, I was using it to help somebody reclaim their individuality. I think the partner system works on a sense of 'what works best'. The longer a pair work together, the stronger they become, and are more capable of working together and using one another's abilities. We're in a war, after all. Cultivating the strongest combinations possible only makes sense.

Have you tried Resonating yet?

I have not attempted it yet. I had planned to, but after the announcement of the mission I thought it best to put it off until afterwards. Even beyond the initial issues of resonation, it seems like a Weapon would be at greater risk in a fight by becoming inanimate and essentially surrendering control to another. I should not take another person's life literally in my hands if I am not sure that I would not only be endangering them more.

Hm...well, hiding in Weapon form definitely helped me when the zombies were here, but I see your point. Though most Weapons are more concerned about protecting their Meisters than protecting themselves. And it isn't as though we're locked in, you know? Depending on our forms, we can do partial transformations.

If you'd like to try it, before the mission or after or any time, I wouldn't mind.

I have stopped by a few times, but never participated. It was interesting to just observe.

I saw that breakfast was served there, but I have never tried it. It did not seem appropriate given that I was not actively joining in on the training.
