I intend on participating in the coming mission, alone if I must. Before that, however, there are some people I would like to have a word with.

It is the only name I possess; it will more than suffice.

Those who have adopted mortal names are few and far between. I know of only one, personally. What has prompted your choice in taking yours, Kaworu Nagisa?

I could hardly have passed as one of the Lilin if I did not have a suitable name.

I see. [ logical, and he can almost, almost see why. there's something to be said about humanity and its ways. ]

A voice and a name are often enough to work off of, but I would know your face if we should meet in person.

[and after only a brief second he switches to video, all pale skin and hair and red eyes for a moment before he pulls the mirror back to a more suitable distance.]

[ it takes a little longer for Castiel to do the same, time taken to figure out how to work the mirror once more. when the video function does kick in, though, it's a little off-kilter, the image a little unfocused, as if he still isn't entirely certain how to manage the thing. but it's all there, dark hair, blue eyes, an expression seemingly fixed into one of permanent disapproval. ]

[he's the slightest bit disappointed, having sort of expecting someone who looked more like himself or rei, but given all the other differences it was probably too much to expect to angel genetics to work the same way in this other world.

How long have you had that form?

Fifteen years. Was that form created as an adult from the start?

[ a blink of his own, and he tilts his head in that odd, bird-like manner of his. ]

It's a vessel. For an angel to walk the earth and carry out the duties we must, we take vessels; the bodies of humans who give theirs to us at their own consent. Mortal eyes cannot bear our true forms otherwise.

That body is not your own? [even with consent that's a little...huh.]

No. Yours is. [ another question phrased as a statement. he's fairly good at those. ]

Yes. I was born into this body and grew with it. The same is true for my...ah, other. [other person like him. what else could he call rei?] There are replacements available in case the original body is damaged beyond repair, but those are just empty shells.

There have been occasions when an angel's spirit has grown with the body, but those, two, are rare.

[ he knows it now, but isn't likely to admit to how terribly wasteful the vessel business can be. ]

I have never heard of an Angel possessing an occupied body before. [an evangelion, maybe, but never a human.] And there are only two instances where any of us used a human form at all, mine being one of them.

We have never had reason to, since the advent of the modern world.

[ a pause. ]

[ another pause. this is something he hasn't told anyone, not even Dean. yet somehow, it feels almost right to tell this boy, this youth who calls himself an angel. if anyone could comprehend, wouldn't he? ]

I haven't felt his presence since my arrival here.
