[good afternoon Death City. hope you aren't tired of new arrivals yet because here's another one.
it's hard to tell where exactly this particular old bespectacled man is recording from because most of the screen is taken up by the biggest hat in the cosmos. don't be intimidated, though! he seems friendly enough, though his attention constantly flickers from his unseen audience to a point just beyond them -- as if he's almost more interested in the communicator itself than who's behind it. the quiet muttering doesn't help.] A mirror, eh? Curious choice...
[right, he's supposed to be talking to people. whoops! he blinks, starts, and smiles apologetically, refocusing.] Ah-- greetings. My name is Qilby, and I am an Eliatrope.
[an awkward, expectant pause as if he's hoping that by some stretch the term should be familiar to someone out there. or maybe he's just hesitant to address his next point.] ...I don't suppose I'm the only one that finds it rather tragic that by bringing us here and giving us these new abilities, they've stripped us of our powers that arguably could have been more useful to help end this conflict. And now we must figure out how to harness an entirely new set of skills... Well. They say you can't teach an old boowolf new tricks, and I doubt I'm an exception. [and his smile at his own "joke" implies that he is a very old boowolf indeed.]
That aside, I'm more than willing to try and learn. Tell me, how have people's experiences been? I'm afraid I haven't had to fight a war in a long time.
[and at that, he looks very tired.] A very, very long time.

video.
[le squint. he's talking to a frog, isn't he.] Pardon my rudeness... But what exactly are you?
video.
[
Yes. Yes, he is.Actually, he's an alien.] I'm a Keronian.no subject
You're not from this planet, are you-- Earth, right?
[now that he thought about it, that was rather an unimaginative name to call a chunk of dirt in space.]
no subject
no subject
[a bright smile.] But once upon a time, I'd been to a great many planets. I've never come across one called Keron, though -- what was it like?
no subject
Keron? It's pretty similar to this one, de arimasu. But the humidity levels are much higher, de arimasu. [And it's full of frog-aliens.]
no subject
I'm not sure one can retire from being an alien.
Er-- but yes. I suppose I am!
no subject
Then a retired alien traveller, de arimasu. What planet did you come from, de arimasu?
no subject
but, well, "retired alien traveller" is actually pretty close so he doesn't contest it.] The world I came from is known as the World of Twelve... But I'm afraid I know very little about it now besides that it's known for the twelve gods that watch over it. It's a beautiful place, however.
We had travelled there after our home planet was invaded by an enemy race. [a frown -- half-apologetic.] It's rather a long story.
no subject
But how come you don't know much about it now if it's the place you came from, de arimasu?
[I-Invaded...well...you don't seem to recognize him, so it probably wasn't a Keronian invasion. That would make this conversation so awkward.]
An invasion, huh. By whom, de arimasu?
no subject
We had been followed to this new world by the very invaders of which I speak: the Mechasms. A technological race that desired our magic for its own. We weren't strong enough to defeat them on our home world, and only barely won the second time around. One of my own people -- Yugo, my brother -- sealed me away in a portal for those ten thousand years, in order to save my life... Before he sacrificed himself to beat our enemies for good.
[a sad smile.] And that's why it's been so long since I've seen my world.
no subject
...
Yugo? Did he have a blue hat with things on the side like this? [He puts his hands on either side of his head to demonstrate.]
no subject
Yes. Wait-- what? [yes, very coherent.] How did you...
[and then it dawns on him.] Was Yugo here?
no subject
no subject
qilby collects himself quickly and... rolls his eyes.] Well. That'd... Explain some things.
In my world, Yugo was on a quest, one I'd given him. A very important one. Several months had passed with no word and I was beginning to think something had happened but--
[at last, he laughs. or sighs. it might be a stretch to call it a "laugh."] If he was here all along, then I'm glad to know he was safe. [a pause.] Unless-- he's not here anymore because he was returned by BREW? Right?
no subject
[He frowns, because something occurs to him] ...But time is supposed to stop for you in your original world while you're here, de arimasu. When you get sent back it's supposed to be like no time passed at all, de arimasu.
When was he supposed to contact you, de arimasu?
no subject
No time in particular, but surely he would have reached his destination before now. [surely yugo wouldn't be stopping to help every person on the way there like he was the protagonist of a children's cartoon or something... RIGHT?] What you say makes sense, though -- I would have known if he'd suddenly disappeared from our world.
Were you... Friends with Yugo? [because really, leave it to him to befriend a frog.]
no subject
We're friends, but Yugo-dono never told me much about his world, de arimasu. I didn't even know he had a brother.
no subject
[and, ahaha, he's not hurt that he wasn't mentioned once. not... at all.] I'm only his Eliatrope brother, too. He has a far stronger connection to his dragon brother, Adamaï. If Yugo spoke of siblings, surely he'd be the first one he mentioned... [this is a little troubling.
but, oh well. surely there's a reason why.] I'm glad he settled so well here, though I'm not surprised. He always had a knack for making friends wherever he went. [ah! it suddenly occurs to him:] Oh, I'm sorry! I don't believe I asked you your name yet.
no subject
Well...the topic of siblings never really came up, de arimasu. What's the difference between an Eliatrope brother and a dragon brother anyways, de arimasu? [Keroro's an only child, and they only ever talked about friends. Or going to the red light district.]
Yugo-dono even got a partner before I did, de arimasu. I'm Keroro. You're Qilby-dono, right?
no subject
Yugo and I were among the first six of our kind to be born. We and our four other Eliatrope siblings were special in that we were born out of dragon eggs -- and it's from these eggs that we got our dragon siblings. [a somewhat... wistful tone?] The bond between dragon and Eliatrope runs much deeper than that of the one between Eliatrope and fellow Eliatrope... It's in their very life force, the connection that allows one to be aware of the other's presence anywhere in the world.

no subject
If you were speaking to any other Eliatrope, you'd probably make them question a lot about themselves...
No, I'm quite sure. Our eggs are relics, left behind after our births, for our energy to return to upon our deaths. We're special in that we're constantly reborn from our original source -- it's how the Yugo you know can be thirteen years old today, and can have saved my life ten thousand years ago.
Not to mention if we were born of birds we should have beaks, or feathers, or something... [what a horrible thought]
no subject
Eh?
I never said anything about you actually being born of birds, de arimasu. I was just saying that your parents might have had habits like a certain species of bird on Pekopon.
no subject
Our memories don't carry over, ah, save for mine. [le pause.] I... Am a special case.
But-- are you saying that your people are reborn in a similar way?
(no subject)
oh my god where did this notif goooo i'm so sorry
It's okay! o/
