[Now here's a face that hasn't shown up in a while. He's standing before Casualty Communal, just overseeing the preparations for the newcomers that are due to arrive shortly. Fortunately, BREW was a punctual thing. But Kid sighs in relief, standing with both hands on his hips.]

Good morning, Death City. It has been a while, and I offer my apologies. In the wake of the BREW glitch, you understand my hands have been tied in seeing the problem fixed. After a thorough examination and... [He makes a face.] ...cleaning... BREW has resumed normal functionality.

It has been reported that many of the objects brought in have been dismissed in the latest power surge from BREW, which leads us to believe that the designation swap, too, has been rectified. However, I will need feedback from all of you to confirm this. Should anyone have remained swapped, please report to me or any Shibusen faculty so that we may make the necessary arrangements.

As for the... dinosaurs... they have been taken care of. I personally apologize for any inconvenience they - and BREW's glitch - may have caused. [And no, Stein, you can't keep any. You endanger enough species.]

With that in mind, I'd like to address the matter of kishin egg souls collected during BREW's issue. Should everything be back in order - of which I hope - I can see to it that they are safely transferred to the correct individual.

First, I will report having returned to my prior designation before the malfunction and saw to collecting the souls my Partner and I requested Shibusen hold on to.

[Fortunately, they haven't made her resume feeling terrible like before.]

Our Intelligence Division has reported back last night, and among the information I've been given, they've determined the current location of the witch you've been looking for.

How long she will remain has yet to be seen, but a wanted witch rarely plants her roots and sticks around.

Very well. Where is she located and what can you tell me about her? We may be able to go after her tomorrow.

She goes by Kharon, and she is currently in Germany's capital. She bears influence over birds, which in great numbers can be an issue, but it's through this power that she was able to commit countess kidnappings for human experimentation. As a ranged Weapon, you have a leg up on handling her if she decides to put some distance between you, your partner, and herself.

Kharon's specialty is corvids, crows and other intelligent, opportunistic bird species. To command any creature with higher intelligence requires strong charming magic. You'll both have your work cut out for you.

[A blink. There was being eager, but then there was being reckless.]

[Naoto nods, taking in the information. This wasn't going to be the first distant opponent they had taken on and ironic that she was located in Germany. Her's and Kanji's first mission had been in Bonn.]

We've dealt with such situations before, Crows in particular. [Poe has a feeling she's mentioning that and looks up] I'll speak to my Meister soon, but draw up strategies throughout the day. Whether or not we actually go tomorrow is something we both need to agree on.

I'm glad to see that 8it of 8usiness has 8een taken care of.

As far as any aid I can provide in aftermath of the 8REW, I can only state what is pro8a8ly already common knowledge. In addition to the aforementioned changes, we have had quite a few individuals vanish that have yet to return. A 8it of a 8other, 8ut one in which little can 8e done as far as I have 8een led to 8elieve.

BREW still bears natures we've yet to understand, including its capability to dismiss the people it's brought in. All we can do in such an event is achieve what we can with those that remain and welcome the ones that arrive during the artifact's power surges.

That is true. My only worry is that there is a lot of ignorance that is merely accepted as accepta8le.

And it is not.

I agree, which is why I have a team exploring the ins and outs of BREW in any way they can so that we may learn if even a fraction more of what it's capable of. But its eccentric creator, Eibon, is himself an enigma, as are the inventions he's left behind. But were he to leave something like a manual, of course, that leaves the complete knowledge of it in what can potentially be the wrong hands. To leave everyone in the dark, I suppose, better assures safety when it comes to its use. That, and I presume he only intended it for his own use.

How was it able to swap us in the first place? I was under the impression that being a Weapon or Meister was innate.

It is. According to reports we've received, many of the individuals brought in via BREW disappeared and reappeared just a moment later, rather like a hiccup in existence. Some report seeing home for a brief flash.

In that hiccup, I suspect your souls were returned to normal, but were changed in a different manner upon your return, changing Meisters to Weapons and vice versa.

Mm. [An impatient noise--yeah yeah, he knows people were sent home.]

I meant, I thought people were one or the other, like being right- or left-handed, and only a very few could conceivably be either.

[He's not enthused about the idea that he could have been a Weapon just as easily as a Meister, or about BREW being capable of changing people that much.]

Which is true, and one reason of many that the designation swap disturbed me. Many who are well-suited for one would not be so for the other, but it seemed that BREW's power saw past it and went through with it regardless, placing everyone far outside their comfort sorts or prior compatibility to the roles.

I doubt the glitch had anything to do with one's suitability.

[Oh, BREW was being an asshat for no reason. That Mello can accept without much questioning.]

Any idea what caused it to malfunction like that?

Thank you, Kid. [There's an obvious note of relief in his voice.] I have been returned to normal, thankfully, as I can use my ability and Soul Menace again.

Has anyone discovered the cause of the glitch, or is this yet another mystery upon the pile that BREW has saddled us with?

The mystery... was solved. We had a visitor who had no business attending the viewing of BREW, and as a result we've devised a few methods of increasing security.

But this... visitor... has a lengthy history of being places he doesn't belong.

[He makes a face.]

...Yes. I have met him once before, and I thought that would be enough.

[Lily was on her way out of Casualty Communal when she saw Kid broadcasting his announcement outside and paused off to the side to listen. If that was just a glitch, she wasn't sure if she wanted to know what a complete breakdown would be like!]

[She wasn't so sure she was back to normal yet though. Clothes still felt soulless to her and she hadn't been home again. It would have been difficult not to notice with the way she had come back last time!]

[Despite Kanji's reassurances that Shibusen wouldn't treat her differently for being a witch in her world, she was still wary and approached cautiously.]

And what would you do if someone didn't get changed back to what they were before?

[He lifted his head with the voice, turning to address the woman that approached. Ah, he recognized her, but they haven't spoken in quite a while.]

If some weren't returned to normal, then we at Shibusen will see to it that the new Meisters or Weapons receive the appropriate training to adapt to the change. We understand it's a difficult matter to merely move on in a sense, but with BREW as unpredictable as it is, there's little telling on the permanence of the changes it makes.

Then, if we haven't changed back yet, we might just be stuck like this? [Not a pleasant thought even if she had allowed Lezard to wield her with some success over the past week. For that matter, she hadn't seen the sorcerer yet this morning. Had he gone back to being a book or was he still a Meister? A flicker of panic crossed her face as a thought occurred to her...] What about partners? What if one changed back but the other didn't?

I've never seen your face before. As someone who's relatively new, I don't suppose you could tell me a bit about yourself, young sir?

[Kid, after all, sort of seems to know what he's talking about in a more authoritative way than the others who have explained to Clopin what's going on.]

I can. I am Death the Kid, the reigning Shinigami and head of Shibusen in my late father's stead. As a Death God it's my task to monitor the Madness in the world, prevent the arrival of any more Kishin in this world, and do so by marking the locations of Kishin Eggs for Meister/Weapon pairs to obtain and in turn purify through missions.

I am a Meister, which makes me under your jurisdiction, I believe... but I want to know more about the Kishins you are "purifying." Why is it necessary to kill them?

The designation swap was, in fact, rectified in the case of myself and my partner.

And don't personally apologize for things that are not your fault. It makes you look weak.

It isn't my fault, true, but for lack of a voice from the one responsible, any might be preferred instead.

It does help to seem like you care about the inconvenience it caused.
