o33 Voice | 10-04, dawn
[Out of the blue, in the early light of dawn, Genesis' voice comes on to the network. There's the sound of live flames crackling in very close proximity, and he sounds incredibly confused.]
Where... how did I get here? [He murmurs to himself in confusion, not sure of exactly what to say. Then he snaps out of it for a moment.]
Neji, Edgeworth-- it looks like the arsonist has struck again. And at another residential buil--
[But his message is cut short as his attention is drawn to someone crying out not too far from him:
Officer! There he is!! That's the man who set fire to this place!
Immediately, there are footsteps, many of them-- and they all are coming towards Genesis.]
I'm not who you're looking for! I couldn't have set fire to this building!!
[The witness cries out again: Lies! I saw you with my own two eyes!
An officer cut in: We'll hear your story at the station. You'll have to come with us first.
You're Genesis Rhapsodos of the Watch, aren't you? I'm disappointed. I had more faith in you guests who chose to help us with keeping the city safe. I'm confiscating your communication device for now, but I'll let you make just one call.
Then, there's a little shuffle, as if Genesis only realized that the device was still on all this time.]
Edgeworth, Near, Neji-- if any of you are listening to this: I did not do this. And if I actually did, I did not do it by my own free will. I have faith that you will believe me. I'm counting on you to find who really did this.
[That's enough, buddy. You're coming along with us now.
There is the clink of metal: handcuffs, and the feed ends, cut off by one of the officers.]
((OOC: Action threads at the city jail is an option to take!))

What were you doing at the scene?
A gruff voice is heard immediately when Mello rings his communicator up. And once it's with Genesis, Mello is treated to the sight of prison walls surrounding the soldier.]
Mello. I have absolutely no idea to what exactly I was doing there. All I remember is... well, I said goodnight to my date, dropped her off at her place, walked away.
The next thing I knew, I was here, in front of this burning building.
Have you ever experienced missing time before now?
[Genesis thinks hard about it, though.]
But I had noticed that I seemed... a little more careless recently? It doesn't happen often, but I remember watching a movie with my girlfriend, but I don't remember everything that happened in the movie. Then, there was a time I was doing my patrols, and then I felt as if I lost track of where I had gone and what I had seen.
[That's actually a good sign. If Genesis is having fugue states, it's better if they're a recent development, one he couldn't be expected to have done something about yet.]
Any idea why? Change in routine? Something unusual that happened around the time it started?
[He really can't think of something specifically unusual. He doesn't even think about the necklace his girlfriend had given him and insisted he wear...]
Video > Action
[The feed cuts off before Neji can do more than take the situation in and begin to speak. He frowns, taps his fingers on his desk and considers the likelihood of events. But after a few moments, he decides he needs to speak with Genesis, and takes his lunch break to head down to the city jail.
He listens to the police reports and witness accounts, hands over the couple pieces of weaponry he keeps on his person at all times. He really doesn't need them, could free all prisoners he wants with his hands alone, but he has no intention of freeing Genesis. The shinobi are playing nice with Death City, and there's already too much backlash on the Watch itself.
He's led outside his friend's cell and stares into it for a moment before he calls Clairvoyance to the fore. Veins crawl to his eyes and the world splinters, focus centered on Genesis' wavelength. It looks normal, and his frown deepens]
What happened, Genesis?
Action
[Genesis wears a confused expression upon his face. For the first time in a year, the SOLDIER found himself absolutely at a loss for how to explain his actions.]
As I told Mello earlier, the last thing I remember before I saw the flames was saying good night to my date. Then the next thing I knew, there was fire before me.
[Fabiola looks torn between being scandalized and being furious.]
How absurd- do they not know who you are?
[Genesis is both shocked, relieved, and yet ashamed to see the young maid on the communicator handed to him by the police.]
You've returned... yes, the authorities know me. However, I am still their suspect in this case. And they would rather not let me go until a trial has been arranged.
[Furious wins, and her expression turns positively thunderous, lips pulling down in a scowl.]
Is there no way to make them reconsider?

Do you remember that tea you'd use to often offer me...?
[action]
No evidence of how the fires started, which could mean that someone's ability had done it, without any help from lighters or matches. A door forced open by a large bladed weapon. But Edgeworth wasn't about to jump to that conclusion. Not until he has spoken to Genesis himself.
He blazes a trail toward the city jail on his motorbike, and once he's there, the sea of officers parts to make way for the grim-faced prosecutor striding forward purposefully and not mincing any small talk. Some people are whispering - would Prosecutor Edgeworth, the famous three-star Meister attorney, handle the case?
It's easy for him, in any case, to acquire the needed documents. The officers handed everything over to him like it was standard operating procedure. Eyewitness accounts, evidence discovered at the scene...but what he needed was not among the paperwork. What he needed was the story straight from Genesis. Edgeworth stops in front of his partner's cell, his expression unreadable, his arm full of documents.]
Genesis. Tell me what happened. [Genesis wouldn't commit arson. Edgeworth refused to believe it. Something was wrong with this picture, and he was going to find out what it was.]
[action]
I had a date last night with my girlfriend. We went out, had drinks, went dancing. Then I took her home. Then we kissed goodnight. I was on my way back to our apartment, then...
[He takes a deep breath.]
There was no lapse in time, no blacking out. I just blinked and next thing I knew, I was in front of the burning building, getting accused of arson.
[action]
Odd. Edgeworth is certain Genesis has been telling this story over and over, but he must draw it out from him at least one more time just to get some answers.]
Are you sure you remember nothing between walking home and the fire?
[action]
[Genesis sighs and leans forward. There seems to be something shiny peeking out from under the collar of his shirt. Perhaps Edgeworth would like to look closer.]
[action]
...What is that? [He points to the shiny thing. A pendant? A medallion?]
[action]
[Genesis pulls out a small silver necklace with an apple pendant. There's a purple gem embedded in the silver fruit.]
It was a gift from my girlfriend, Ligeia.
[action]
When did you receive this?
[action]
[Genesis looks over at Edgeworth with curious, concerned eyes. He's feeling a little antsy now. Was there something wrong about the pendant Ligeia gave him?]
[action]
[action]
I've been seeing her since about... August.
[action]
[action]
[action]
[action]
Maybe... about a week after I got the necklace? That was when I went out to a movie with Ligeia.
[action]
[There's a red flag going up.]
And have you always worn the necklace since you received it?
[action]
[action]
So, after she insisted, and you obliged, you began having these episodes. When you didn't have these episodes, did you sense anything...odd, while wearing the necklace?
[action]
No. Nothing at all.
[action]
[The pieces fall into place, and the picture finally dawns upon him.]
Genesis. That necklace may hold the key to your acquittal. Allow me to bring it to Shibusen.
[action]
He grasps the necklace around his neck, hesitating about handing it over to his partner. He might need a little more encouragement.]
[action]
Do you plan on spending the rest of your stay in Death City behind bars?
[action]
[It doesn't take long for Edgeworth to convince Genesis. He knows where his priorities lay. At the end of the day, his place was as a soldier in this war: not some man settling for a life of tranquility with someone to love. He still hesitates a little as he takes off the piece of jewelry, but it does end up in Edgeworth's hand.]
Here you are.
[action]
[His apology is curt, but sincere. He grips the necklace in his hand, the red flag in his mind still up and flying high. Edgeworth closes his fingers around the pendant, a feeling of foreboding washing over him as he dreads the worst.]
I won't rest until I have the truth in my hand. If you are truly innocent, there is a way to prove it.
[action]
[Genesis nods, his blue eyes now bright with determination. It doesn't matter what his girlfriend could say now. His trust in his partner was far greater.]
[action]
[action]
Good luck with the case, partner.
[action]
Thank you.
[I need much more than luck, not that I believe in it.]
