[Out of the blue, in the early light of dawn, Genesis' voice comes on to the network. There's the sound of live flames crackling in very close proximity, and he sounds incredibly confused.]

Where... how did I get here? [He murmurs to himself in confusion, not sure of exactly what to say. Then he snaps out of it for a moment.]

Neji, Edgeworth-- it looks like the arsonist has struck again. And at another residential buil--

[But his message is cut short as his attention is drawn to someone crying out not too far from him:

Officer! There he is!! That's the man who set fire to this place!

Immediately, there are footsteps, many of them-- and they all are coming towards Genesis.]

I'm not who you're looking for! I couldn't have set fire to this building!!

[The witness cries out again: Lies! I saw you with my own two eyes!
An officer cut in: We'll hear your story at the station. You'll have to come with us first.

You're Genesis Rhapsodos of the Watch, aren't you? I'm disappointed. I had more faith in you guests who chose to help us with keeping the city safe. I'm confiscating your communication device for now, but I'll let you make just one call.

Then, there's a little shuffle, as if Genesis only realized that the device was still on all this time.]

Edgeworth, Near, Neji-- if any of you are listening to this: I did not do this. And if I actually did, I did not do it by my own free will. I have faith that you will believe me. I'm counting on you to find who really did this.

[That's enough, buddy. You're coming along with us now.

There is the clink of metal: handcuffs, and the feed ends, cut off by one of the officers.]

[Mello hardly ever uses video, but he's rather proud that he came out of a battle with a Witch with only minor injuries to show for it: the bandages on both his forearms are the extent of the damage.

Near was slightly more worse for the wear, but he is the one who had to consume a Witch soul. Now he's awake and on the mend, and though Mello hasn't yet left his clinic bedside (the IV stand and bed railing, but not Near, are clearly visible behind Mello), there are public service announcements to be got out of the way.]

Yesterday, my partner and I defeated the Witch Isabella, and became the newest Death Scythe pair.

[He permits himself the closest to a real smile most people are ever likely to see from him, which skews slightly wicked before he speaks again.]

We might have broken the Grand Canyon a bit in the process. Sorry.

Gone.

[The word is barely audible. The trembling in his shoulders goes from subtle to an obvious shaking.]

...my partner is gone. He... the partner of my soul is gone.

[There's a moan of despair before it increases into a soft keening noise of loss, and he lifts his head long enough to shut the communicator off.]

[It's a Saturday morning! Lovely day to walk your dog, or see the (death-themed, skull-studded) sights, or just kick back and relax before the next big invasion with a bowl of cereal and Saturday morning cartoons. Or...you can give a little public service announcement because of all the people BREW has been sending home. Those lucky ducks. Edgeworth has mixed feelings about this - relief because they're better off back home (with the exception of a few who have grown to prefer Death City, maybe), but also unease because the Agency lineup has dropped to a paltry 5-strong team. Why was BREW targeting the Agency in particular?

Oh, and he is 2 days shy of spending a full year in Death City after the rest of the folk from his home have been long gone. Lawyer pride! More like combat lawyer pride...?

His expression is pensive, and his eyes like gathering storm clouds. He exhales slowly from where he is seated at a...dining table. An immaculate dining table, mind. A thick novel is off to one side, on top of a small stack of files.]

With BREW sending home more people and summoning less, the Kuzunoha Detective Agency has suffered heavy losses. While it is generally better to be home and mind one's business than to fight another world's war, it does not bode well for the rest of us remaining.

[A beat. His brows furrow, and he folds his arms across his chest.]

The Agency, the heart of the guests' investigatory and archival efforts which closely coordinates with the Watch, presently has five members. Once again, I would like to extend an invitation toward those who have had experience in these fields - or those willing to learn. Not only are we looking for agents, we need a secretary, a janitor, guards and messengers. Contact me or Near, if you are interested, and either of us [read: usually Edgeworth] will set an interview with you.

[Yeah, the links to their inboxes are right thar. He makes a move as if to switch the communicator off at that point, but withdraws his hand.]

Lastly, a question for all of you: How long have you been here? [Many of the people who have been in Death City for much longer than a year were already gone. Despite knowing that BREW was far less predictable than a game of roulette, that did not stop Edgeworth from trying to puzzle out why it was suddenly bringing home more people in proportion to the number of newcomers they got every month. Was BREW finalizing its lineup for a final confrontation with the witches of sorts? Or was this just another day in the life of a demon tool?]

[Since Genesis has been feeling very cheery, he's in the mood to talk to the city. Usually, he'd be a bearer of news as part of the Watch or a mouthpiece for recruitment. But today, he's in the mood to talk about something else.]

Did you ever have a feeling-- and impulse, more like, to do something dramatic? Sweep someone off their feet, or run off on an adventure? I didn't think I'd feel such a thing, but perhaps it's about time to revel in a little happiness. Do something beyond the fighting, the training, and the daily hubbub.

What I mean is...

Yako Katsuragi, would you like to go flying with me this afternoon?

[This is Edgeworth sitting inside the prosecutor's lobby in a courthouse, holding his communicator up. Keeping him company on the couch is his briefcase and a few more folders. He looks rather flustered and shaken, as if something utterly unexpected had happened during his trial. With wide eyes he starts speaking, blurting out the words a bit more quickly than usual.]

How many of you were sent home and then returned to Death City...only to find yourselves the exact opposite of what BREW designated you to be, and with all your memories intact?

[He grits his teeth and massages his temple with his free hand as if to keep an impending headache at bay.]

I was sent home for barely a few minutes before BREW changed its mind and brought me back here. Not long after, while cross-examining a witness during today's trial, I had the unfortunate pleasure of -

[Someone off-screen calls him. Don't worry about trying to recognize the voice; it's just a random bailiff. The transmission shifts toward the direction of the door of the lobby, where the Random Bailiff is peeking inside.]

Prosecutor Edgeworth! Detective D. Ead wants to speak to you!

[A short, somewhat portly detective shoves past the bailiff, nervously flattening his overly gelled black hair onto his head. He is breathing hard, his eyes are about to pop out of their sockets, and he is far more flustered as well as fearful - fearful for his salary and what Edgeworth could do with it.]

S-sir! Sir! W-w-we can't -f-find the...the weapon! I swear I had the pistol with me when the trial started! I SWEEEAAAAR!

[The detective breaks down, tears streaming down his face. Edgeworth gets to his feet, his face contorting into an expression of fury. The scene shakes as his hand trembles with rage. No. He worked hard on this case to get his man, and now the detective had to lose the decisive evidence?!]

WHAT?!

[The communicator falls out of his hands and onto the floor, followed not long after by a shiny, three-foot rapier. The intricate golden basket hilt is partly covered by a cravat that is supposedly part of the Weapon. Edgeworth himself is nowhere in sight. The last thing you hear are the bailiff and detective panicking as they rush toward the sword.

OOC: Replies will ICly be delayed because obviously Edgeworth does have to get back to his work once he poofs back to his usual self.]

[Genesis is at the morning training grounds, broadcasting this from where he stood with the array of practice weapons from the Weapons Handling training area behind him. People can feel free to talk to him in person after the transmission.]

Good day, Death City.

I am Genesis Rhapsodos, one of the Zone Leaders of the Watch and liaison between the Watch and the Kuzunoha Detective Agency. And today, I'd like to speak on behalf of the Watch.

First and foremost, to those new to the city and to those who I hadn't had the pleasure of greeting since a month ago, welcome. The Watch is a part of Death City's Office of General Security, reinforces the local police forces, and helps defend the city in case of any attack. If you have any interest in helping us whether as a patrolman or even as a clerk or medic, please feel free to contact Neji.

On the other hand, if you think of yourself as more for investigations, you might be interested in the Kuzunoha Detective Agency. For that, you can contact their leaders: Edgeworth or Near. ((ooc: More information on Agency jobs is here.))

For the rest of you who have lived here in the city for a while, you might have noticed that during the last call for volunteers from Shibusen for another rescue mission, there had been no action from the Erinyes. That's because before the rescuers were dispatched, we managed to raid them at one of their meetings. Currently, we are holding some members for interrogation at the city jail. And they will also be tried at court for what they had done to the city. Justice will be done for what they had done to both guests and fellow locals alike.

But, don't let your guard down. There may be some still out here in the city and they may still regroup. And let's not forget that witches may try to invade the city at any time. This is still a time of war, no matter how idyllic the time is between the battles.

With a mysterious (according to him) tip of his hat, he grins at the communicator.]

Summer. A time of magic, mystery and burning desert heat, de arimasu. What better way to spend it then, than at our enchanting Summer Gala, de arimasu?

[With a practiced flourish, he produces a golden invitation (he put a lot of thought into this, okay...) and rose petals, courtesy of Eve standing somewhere off-stage, start showering down on him.]

I look forward to seeing all of you on June 20th, de arimasu.

[And now back to your regularly scheduled programm-]

Ah! Wait, de arimasu! If there's anyone who wants to help out with things like music or costumes, please leave any contact information with me as well, de arimasu.

[ The video feed opens, but shows only the sunrise. Pretty, isn't it? The scorching rays are only just beginning to heat the city up, and there's still the slight darkness looming over the city. The view is offered from the 13th floor of Casualty Communal. After a few moments, Kanaya speaks. ]

Good morning, Death City. I must admit that a view such as this, one of the sunrise, is a most pleasant one to accompany my first morning here. Likely like a handful of other residents, I find the sunrise to be a beautiful, pleasant beginning to the day. Others may view it as a disappointing end to the night. Neither view is wrong, but at the very least for those who may miss it today, it is here.

[ After a moment, she turns the video to face herself, and she's sitting on one of her room's chairs on her balcony. A jade-green Virgo symbol (♍) is clearly visible on her black short-sleeve shirt, and is one of only three things that break away from her monochrome colors; the other two being the yellows (not whites) of her eyes and her horns. The residents of Death City have seen a troll before, though only those who are more familiar with them (or trolls themselves) will notice that her gray skin is notably lighter than the others here. ]

Good morning to each and every one of you. To those I already know, I look forward to our time here. To those I do not yet know, I am Kanaya Maryam. [ A smile. ] Sunrise or not, may you all have a bright, pleasant day.

[ She turns the feed back to the sunrise for a few moments, offering the beautiful sight once more... before she ends it. There was no sense in beginning anyone's day anything but pleasantly. ]

[The voice that speaks is a bit weak; it is a voice that would normally be a clear baritone but is, instead, hoarse with exhaustion. Edgeworth struggles to make himself heard, and his efforts pay off.]

Hmph, mounting a riot while many of us were dispatched on missions? I can't say it was not a calculated move. The local thugs are using their brains in tandem with their brawn for once.

...In any case. [He sighs wearily.] Allow me to offer a piece of advice as one who has called Death City home for nine months: learn how to defend yourself. Shibusen has given you a choice: to either live as a simple civilian until you return to your real home, or to take up arms, so to speak, and fight. Regardless of what you choose, however, danger threatens us both outside and inside the city walls. Our enemies - anti-Shibusen forces, kishin eggs and witches alike - are not picky with their targets.

Learning self-defense is not equivalent to becoming a soldier. I'm not making your choice for you; I am simply offering a suggestion, a precaution if you will, if you wish to stay alive when the war comes knocking at your door, whether you expected it or not.

...

Should you have any business with the Agency, your concerns are best directed to me for now. [Edgeworth, you dolt, you're also in the hospital. So what if you're in better shape than Near? STOP IT.]

[Filtered to the Agency]

I should return to work in 3 days. Those of you who stayed in Death City are not excused from reporting regarding yesterday's events. [Before you think Edgeworth is a mean slave driver, note that he didn't give a deadline.]

I believe a head count is in order; how many of you are well enough to work?

Good evening,

A warm welcome to those who've just arrived, I'm Genesis Rhapsodos- the Watch's Zone Leader for one of the Outer Residential Districts, where most of you currently reside. I'm also the Watch's liaison to the Kuzunoha Detective Agency. My meister, Miles Edgeworth, is one of its leaders.

Now that Shibusen is calling for all its able partnerships to fight for them, I have some advice for you all: brace yourselves. Trouble often strikes when there are less fighters in the city. While us members of the Watch and Shibusen will do our best to help those who need it, in times of war, it also helps if you are also ready to fight.

And if you wish to make it your job to help others and help defend the city at all hours, I'd like to invite you to join the Watch or the Detective Agency. There is also a group for young people, I believe, who specialize in providing non-combat help. You might have come across them during your tour of the city.

To join the Watch, please contact Neji. As for the Detective Agency, you can contact Edgeworth.

Good evening, my name is Aqua, I'm currently the Zone Leader of the Inner City Residential District I also help teach Weapons how to transform at morning training. I hope no one's had any trouble settling in so far. [Because she's met a few of you already and would like to know how you're doing.]

And best of luck to the people going on the mission. [Her voice up until this point had been polite and calm, though it falls a little in volume at this point it's, if anything, more earnest and heartfelt than it was previously but just as clear.] Please come back safely.

[The polite calm tone was back afterwards.] For now, I was wondering, how many of you have been in a war before?

[She's...not entirely certain what kind of face she should show them. This was still a little new to her. She settles for a brief, but polite smile.]

I'm sorry I haven't really introduced myself to all of you before this. I'll make sure to do that properly later.

Good day,

Some of you may know me as the Watch's liaison to the Detective Agency. Or if you have been here much longer, you may also know me as the former zone leader for the Shopping District and the Red Light District. I'd like to take this opportunity to reintroduce myself.

I am Genesis Rhapsodos, and I now work as both the Watch liaison to the Agency as well as the Zone Leader for one of the Outer Residential Quarters.

My zone covers where many of you might already be residing: Death City Heights, the Creeping Crypts, and the Reaper Residences. If you require any assistance in the area, feel free to contact me.

It appears we've had a decent number of new arrivals here in the city this time. While it's unfortunate to be drawn from your natural world where wars of your own may be taking place, Death City has been in great need of reinforcements, lately. So to that end, I'm relieved to see BREW activate, and hope those of you that arrived recently are settling in reasonably well.

If any of you are searching for employment, the Watch has a number of positions available. We're looking for medics, office administrators, mechanics and technicians, and of course, those with decent combat experience to patrol the city's districts in order to maintain the peace and security of civilians and Guests alike.

If anyone is interested, further information, along with the application can be found here. Any questions regarding the organization I can field here, or at my personal inbox. Thank you.

[Cloud appears on screen examining some kind of straps that he's made from his usual armour and uniform. It looks suspiciously like some kind of new and interesting holster for a small object. He's fiddling with it before craning his neck to look beyond the camera before glancing back.]

This is part two in a series I began awhile ago. Before I showed you how impressive my partner's glare was, so this time I intend to show you his shocked face. Now, this isn't an easy one to get; a man of his skill level tends to just look like he sucked on a lemon rather then get that shocked expression. Not only will I attempt to get a real surprised look on his face, I'll be showcasing my new skill as well... not perfected, but it's a work in progress.

[He grabs the camera and suddenly the picture is changed to facing away from his chest. It tilts a little as he clearly sets it in previous holster of straps and even a little tape. He begins to walk slowly towards the door that leads to the rest of the house and Sephiroth briefly appears heading towards the kitchen. Cloud then is whispering.]

Some of you might be asking why I'm doing this. Well, the question can be this: he's probably been a jerk to you on the network. Why not get a view of his softer side when it's finally available?

[He begins to walk through the house, heading to the kitchen. He makes no move to hide his presence, even humming to himself as if he's performing a perfectly normal activity. His hands appear in front of him, and he slows his walk as he concentrates really hard on his hands. Then he's in the kitchen and approaching Sephiroth, who has crouched down and placing a food bowl on the floor where a white fluffy cat is waiting. As Sephiroth rises, Cloud's hand go further out and a spark similar to electricity sound between his hands before snapping out and zapping his partner square in the backside.]

Behold!

[Sephiroth had just started standing back up when the shock ran through his flesh and danced up along his spine. His eyes widened as his expression softened into something that could almost resemble surprise as he spun around to face Cloud. The expression didn't last for long, especially when his attention dropped down from Cloud's face to sight the anomaly strapped and taped against his partner's chest. Soon enough Sephiroth's eyes narrowed into a glare, and it was clearly obvious that the ex-General was not pleased to say the least.]

One would think that you'd be over such foolish attempts of trickery, Strife.

[The picture goes all funny as Cloud turns very rapidly away and starts to hurry out of the kitchen. The sound of pursuit is clear.]

No meisters were actually hurt too bad in the making of this. Oh, that was soul menace by the way. Cool, huh?

[And the feed abruptly cuts out.]

Recent conversations have sparked some curiosity in me.

We all come from different worlds and different times, and I can't help but wonder what some of the common myths, legends, and fairy tales are in these times and places. Such things can be very telling of the people from which they come and I think I might enjoy making a collection of sorts and analyzing them.

So, Death City, if you would be so kind tell me about your worlds and the stories you've been raised on. The more detail the better, and if you know anything of their origin that is better yet.
