[Aqua was sitting by a window, with her knees draw up and the communicator balanced on top. She leaned back against the wall, posture relaxed.]

I've been wondering, does anyone come from a world with magic? If so, would you mind telling me a little about it?

[She reaches out a hand to steady the communicator when it slides a little to the left before righting it again.]

I specialized in magic back home, so I'm curious about what kinds of magic exists in other worlds.

I found a copy of the Grimm's Fairy Tales in the library. [She smiled.] I really enjoyed it; thank you for recommending it to me.

Well, a lot of people can do spells. Some have more specific skills linked to swords. I know I did in Spira.

We also have summoning, probably the greatest magic in Spira.

I see. We had skills that were linked to weapons too, though we never really considered those to be magic.

[At the mention of summoning though, she perks up.]

There are summoners where you come from? There was another girl here who said they could summon things, but it's not a kind of magic I've ever been able to perform. Though I did create something based on it before.

[She shook her head.] I don't think I've spoken to either of them before. Her name was Vanille, she was sent back by BREW a while ago. [It occurs to her that had been months ago now. Thinking that made her feel a little lonely.]

Vanille? I heard of her, but she's not from Spira. Must be a different kind of summoning.

Maybe. I didn't get a chance to ask her in depth about it before she was sent home.

Was there something special about the kind of summoning done in Spira?

It's tied deeply into the world and only a summoner can save the world. A Summoner and his or her Guardians.

I see. [That sounds like a heavy burden to put on just a few people.] How are Summoners usually chosen?

Someone who wants to be a summoner goes to a temple of the fayth and prays. Somehow either what you pray or how you pray reveals your sincerity to the fayth. If they accept you, they allow you to call on them. Then they become a summoner.

And does the Summoner choose their own Guardians?

Yes. They choose anywhere from one to four people, usually, to become their Guardians and they all travel the world together on pilgrimage.

[blue_wayfinder]

And this pigrimage will help keep the world safe?

[nofarplaneyet]

Only if they make it to the very end. Most people don't.

What happens if they don't?

Depends. The pilgrimage is a journey all over Spira to pray to the major fayth. A lot of people abandon the journey because it asks so much of a summoner and Guardians. Spira isn't a safe place so lots of them are killed.

Only a handful make it to the final temple of the fayth.

...that's really sad.

In the thousand years it's been going on, only a handful have ever been successful at completing the journey.

Isn't there any other way to save the world? [A way that wouldn't end with so many people dying?]

At the time, there wasn't. On my last pilgrimage, we might have finally changed things for good.

It was used like a sword. [Well, she's mentioned the name once or twice before.] It's called a Keyblade.

A Keyblade? *Oh, really?* Do you know Sora?

I do. [But their situation was a little bit strange.] I'm guessing you two have met before? [She assumes it was here in Death City.]
