I've been wondering, does anyone come from a world with magic? If so, would you mind telling me a little about it?

[She reaches out a hand to steady the communicator when it slides a little to the left before righting it again.]

I specialized in magic back home, so I'm curious about what kinds of magic exists in other worlds.

Not really. Though, if there's one thing I'm particularly curious about, it's probably where spells draw their power from in other worlds. I heard from someone else before that magic in the world they could use it in drew power from belief, and that's completely different from the magic I'm used to.

But I'd love to hear about anything you're comfortable talking about.

[A short pause.] And if you don't mind, could you tell me more about Shin Makoku as well? I assume it's not mainly inhabited by humans if they have their own territories.

That depends on what you're defining magic as.

Well, mostly I'm more interested in what other worlds define as magic.

I already know how my own magic works, but that's not the only kind of magic that exists.

What is magic?

The kind of magic I used the most often were a way of attacking and defending that doesn't use weapons. Instead of attacking an enemy directly, I can use elemental spells where I use fire, ice, thunder or air to attack my enemies. I can also use it to hinder my enemies' movements, heal injuries or even create a barrier to deflect attacks.

Besides that there are also charms, which are...like wishes, I guess. One I can put into an object to protect the person wearing it.

I was rather talented at spellwork myself. What I had learned was mostly elemental in nature, but there were many other kinds of magic that could be studied, if one wished.

It was like that for us too. Most of our offensive spells focused around the elements of fire, ice, thunder and air with some additional spells that affect time and space.

It does. The magic I learned was primarily combat oriented, but I also knew how to cast simple charms too.

Does this mean you didn't have magic in your world, Flora?

I am not fully sure if it is magic for you... but as the leafe knight of light I could create light whenever I wanted... among other quite useful abilities. [Which would be so so useful here]

I'm not sure about the magic in other worlds, but with the kind I was taught, you use energy that's inside you to power your spells. Most of the ones I knew were elemental spells focusing on fire, ice, wind and thunder, with some others that could affect time and space but they all used the same kind of energy, just applied in different ways.

Of course, charms work a little differently. They're more like...wishes, I guess. Ones that you put onto objects.

Really? That's a pity. I've found that it's quite useful, especially the healing spells. [Otherwise recovery takes a long time.

I guess I'd like to know what its applications are, and where it draws its power from. I talked to someone before who said the magic in their world came from belief, which is different from my own which comes from myself, and it seems like a lot of worlds draw magic from different sources.

.... It is a skill learned by those who wish to study it; few have the ability to use magic without an aiding device. For those who do not wish to study, or are poor at it, there are Strike Artes; which occasionally produce effects similar to magic, at a smaller scale.

Oh, magic? Um, well, I know Genis can use it! And Professor! But it's really only elves that can back home. The only reason I can is because....because of my Journey to become an Angel, Remiel was giving me more Angel powers.

[Elves, huh?] Someone else mentioned that only those with elven blood could use magic. I wonder if he's also from your world...

I see. Is it an energy that comes from within you like it is here? Or is it something that comes from outside?

There isn't magic in my world as far as I know, but there is something else called alchemy that would be pretty similar to it. I'm not sure if it counts though...

The idea behind it is that you manipulate atoms at an atomic or molecular scale and change one thing into something else. The fundamental elements of the atoms couldn't be changed though. So, for example, you could split water into hydrogen and oxygen because the elements that make up water are hydrogen and oxygen. At the same time, you could also rebind the oxygen and make it into ozone, where there are three oxygen atoms linked together, or you could rebind hydrogen and oxygen together in a different way to get alcohol. It wasn't something the average person could do very well, so it's considered a type of magic by some people. There's also a bit of moral controversy involved with being able to manipulate elements like that too but...anyhow. That's what we had where I came from.

So you can't get something out of nothing with alchemy, right? That's different from the magic I'm used to. In fact, I don't think I've ever heard of anything quite like this. [It's all really interesting!]

It's really interesting though. I think some of those stories actually happened to real people where I came from.

Within my world, only those of elven descent are naturally capable of wielding magic, although there exists a means by which humans can be permitted to use it. The magic itself is primarily elemental magic along with various healing, offensive, and defensive spells. [A very basic but decent description of it.]
