[Aqua was sitting by a window, with her knees draw up and the communicator balanced on top. She leaned back against the wall, posture relaxed.]

I've been wondering, does anyone come from a world with magic? If so, would you mind telling me a little about it?

[She reaches out a hand to steady the communicator when it slides a little to the left before righting it again.]

I specialized in magic back home, so I'm curious about what kinds of magic exists in other worlds.

I found a copy of the Grimm's Fairy Tales in the library. [She smiled.] I really enjoyed it; thank you for recommending it to me.

That depends on what you're defining magic as.

Well, mostly I'm more interested in what other worlds define as magic.

I already know how my own magic works, but that's not the only kind of magic that exists.

I've become embroiled in something which could possibly be defined as magic, although I'm more inclined to file it away under 'blatant fuckery' myself. It's difficult to gauge whether it fits into your request or not considering the wide variety of universes represented here.

If you're not against talking about it, I'd like to hear about it too.

I played a game with my friends which destroyed our world and transported us to another, where we were cast into mythical roles with our own planets jam-packed with personalized mythos.

Whether that's magic or not is up to your discretion.

...how does a game destroy a whole world?

With meteors, apparently.

Anything I valued was rescued from the oncoming destruction. There's nothing to be sorry for.

I'm glad to hear that, but losing your world isn't something anyone should have to experience.

And yet it's something that every person in this city has done, to an extent. There's no guarantee that we'll ever be returned to our original universes.

There have been people who were sent back and then returned, though. At least from talking to a few of them it does sound like when BREW's done with us we do go home.

[Though for her 'home' isn't really where she was headed when this was over...]

I remain doubtful as to whether the hiccups and nonsensical whims of the machine prove that its ultimate promise will be upheld when it comes time to collect.

[call her bitter and jaded, but she doesn't care]

We have no reason to believe that it won't happen, though.

Beyond it being almost a ridiculously convenient setup, you mean?

Well, we won't know until that happens. For now, it won't hurt to hold onto a bit of hope.

I'd rather be practical, but there's no reason in arguing against others removing the rose-colored glasses. If they wish to remain that way it's really none of my business.

You make it sound like such a bad thing.

[For Aqua, it was hard to imagine not trying to hold onto some hope, however small it was. It was the only reason she'd survived in the Realm of Darkness.

Anything in excess is harmful, even traits typically associated with positivity.

[Rose hopes, but she metes it out with large amounts of pragmatism. optimism needs to be controlled so she doesn't end up looking like a blind fool.]

I know. But there's no use worrying about it now.

Whatever we do, we can't change how BREW works...and even if it doesn't send us back in the end, that just means we'll have to find a way to get back ourselves.

Personally I'd rather not waste my time completing a monumental quest for an item which we can't even be absolutely certain will hold up its end of the bargain when it comes time to collect. If another way to return must be found, I'd like to begin looking for it as soon as possible.

Then don't do it for BREW. Do it because people need your help and you have the power to help them.

In my previous world I was full to the brim with people both in need and more dearer to my heart than the insipid population of this world. I will not kowtow to what amounts to a ransom demand simply because they cannot handle themselves in a world that holds no intrinsic value to me.

[she is so fucking jaded it's a miracle her acidity hasn't melted the face off some poor passerby]

[That's not a sentiment she can really relate to. Saving strangers wasn't a new thing to her. It was what she was supposed to do, helping anyone who needed her help. It was part of her duty as a Keyblade Master.]

I understand that it's difficult to be dragged away from the people you care about, but I don't think the people here wanted this to happen either.

I know this world doesn't have anything to do with me, but I can't imagine just sitting by and do nothing while there's still something I can do.

We'll have to agree to disagree in the regard, as I'm increasingly suspicious that they had quite a good idea of what would happen if they followed through with their actions.

I by no mean advocate apathy in the face of danger such as this world provides at every turn, but I refuse to be forced onto a path I do not wish to walk by outside forces. Kowtowing to their demands does nothing to stop them.
