Just a, uh... quick question to the other Weapons here.

I've already tried looking things up on this, but I'm just a bit wary about trusting some of the material.

Weapons get stronger by collecting souls, right? Eating them... basically. I've heard that there was an alternative and Weapons could choose to not collect them, but-

What happens to the souls that we do collect? And can we still get stronger if we choose not to... do that?

You do not have to eat the souls you've collected, but you will stagnate as a Weapon if you do.

[His tone is dismissive in nature, as if he doesn't care one way or another. In a lot of ways, he doesn't, but there's something deep down within motivating him to continue.]

If you decide not to consume your soul, then you can either store them or hand them to Shibusen to store on your behalf. They'll be consumed either way, whether it's by you or another Weapon in the future who's put in enough effort to have earnt it.

It helps to think of it as sealing them where they can't do any harm any more. I don't know where they go if we don't eat them, but....

Or what if it is? Do we have the right to seal a soul away forever? Does it get out if we die?

I really don't know, but... if they don't get dealt with.... it causes trouble for everyone, since they're souls that have been corrupted. So even if it feels wrong, there's no other way, I don't think...

You're not the only wondering this. I've been doing research with some others here about other options besides consuming the souls.

It seems the only option is to give the souls to Shibusen so that someone else can eat them.

So, basically... the Kishen Eggs we eat make us stronger and change us to better our abilities, but not into something we don't want to be. If we choose to not... keep them, then they'll be taken to Shibusen to be given to someone else, while the Weapon who collected it in the first place won't get any stronger.

... Is it the right thing for the soul, though? He said it becomes a part of us...

I guess it depends on what you mean for "the soul": the one being eaten or your own.

If you mean the one being eaten, then yeah. I don't know specifics, but those souls are way too evil to pass on. They basically forfeited their right to when they decided to try and grow stronger by eating innocent souls.

If you mean if your soul would be all right, it's like eating a sandwich. Or, well, more like eating gelatin the way it wiggles. The thing is that the soul is broken down into energy for your powers instead of for your body.

What everyone has said thus far is correct in most respects. However, let me make this clear. Upon consumption or absorption, however you wish to phrase it, the souls are not completely destroyed. It is possible for me to extract any collected souls from a weapon for whatever necessary reason. An example would be consuming the wrong soul or not consuming a witch's soul after the ninety-ninth. Another would be consuming a soul not meant for you or as punishment for performing a mission incorrectly.

While you do absorb the souls into your body and gain some additional power, a more apt image would be that you are collecting and storing them until you are ready for the witch's soul. It is that soul which will unlock and increase your abilities.

As for an alternative, if you do not wish to consume the souls, the only one you have is to turn them over to me where I will collect and store them for other weapons.

Once a Weapon gets the witch's soul, all of the souls are still stored and there, right? They still aren't destroyed or disappear?

[Or well, not completely, anyway. There's still a piece of them that exists and that's good enough for her.]
