[So after a few days from his initial arrival, Steve finally decides to use the communicator he's given. He's not averse to using it, if the technology is helpful he's gonna work with it. He looks at the device, his expression friendly.]

Hello, this is Steve Rogers. Word is that I was here before, but guess that's happened to others too. Don't have my memories of that time, but I'm not against reintroducing myself and meeting anyone I've worked with before. [He's actually a little angry about that, but he's not showing it. It's sorta the opposite of waking up in New York, but still frustrating in its own way. Regardless, Steve remains calm and polite on the video feed.]

Not against meeting new soldiers- people, either. Trust in your comrades is always important. Doesn't matter what world you come from.

[He rubs the back of his head.] Guess it doesn't sound all that appealing when you put it like that.

[But he becomes serious at that.] Only if they learned to work together. Even soldiers can be uncooperative at times, especially if they're from different militaries. But I'd like to think they band together in a situation like this.

I'd like to believe that as well, but it becomes difficult to hold onto that optimism when the general population proves time and again that it's incapable of acting outside of an outright assault.

They don't prepare for defense or in aiding the citizens? I thought there were many organizations here.

[thorny]

Oh, we're practically swimming in groups here. The problem is that you'll find most of them are interested in selling knickknacks or perpetuating the aura of false calm that pervades the city.

[itsfondue]

Heard that there's a Watch and Detective Agency, they gotta count for something.

[thorny]

They certainly keep the shoplifters in check. [this is unnecessarily mean of Rose but she doesn't particularly care. digs at this entire City are practically second nature to her by now]

[itsfondue]

It's a start. [Always the optimist...] And I've heard that there have been very few causalities among people brought here.

[thorny]

We've been lucky in that respect. [even she's willing to admit that] Unfortunately the people native to this world haven't been able to make the same claims.

[itsfondue]

Civilian casualty rate is high in Witch attacks?

[thorny]

The sole purpose of Witches and kishin are to cause as much suffering as possible. You can imagine how an invasion goes.

[itsfondue]

Seems that many people left that part out. [The high causality rate of citizens that is. Steve is definitely a bit more grumpy upon hearing this.]

You're right, there's more that we need to do.

[thorny]

You'll find that most people don't enjoy actually discussing the war despite being brought here for the sole purpose of fighting it.

[she sighs a little] It's good to hear you say that; people willing to take a more proactive approach isn't very common.

[itsfondue]

War's not a pretty thing, but it's gotta be discussed. It's how we learn from past mistakes and strategize for the future. Is there a record on the previous battles?

Sometimes, people just need a little push.

[thorny]

There ought to be, although whether or not you can access it is another story. At the very least the newspapers ran stories on them if anything more official eludes you.

[she has very little faith in the library ranking system]

At this point I believe the push needs to be significant to get anything moving.

The library have any restricted sections?

If that's what's needed to get things done.

Nearly all of it. Only the first floor is open to most people.

[itsfondue]

That's worth a look. They wouldn't be restricted without good reason.[Steve has no qualms about breaking a few rules.] Has anyone tried going to these areas?

[thorny]

I have. The area I managed to explore before I was caught contained mostly garbage, but there was a small slip of some significance that we've been unable to puzzle out the meaning of.

Mind telling me what that was?

[thorny]

I could make it easier on both of us and simply show you - I still have the paper in my possession and it was scanned and distributed across the network some time ago.

[and here she attaches the file - it contains a scan of a piece of paper upon which a 3D model of the world has been drawn with rods through it showing antipodes. beneath it is cryptic text written in an unfamiliar language]

[Oh, this is interesting. Steve looks at the map for a moment before responding.]

No one knows what language that is?

[thorny]

If they do they haven't deigned to share with the class. [but she has a feeling that it's legitimate bafflement all around. this looks important - it'd definitely have been used for something by now if a guest could read the text]

Seems that they might be hiding something. Maybe if we look more into the restricted area, we'll find more of this.

[thorny]

I certainly wouldn't be opposed to it. There's a great deal of territory up there that my previous companion and I were unable to cover.

How heavily guarded is it?
