When trolls first arrived here in Death City the concern was raised about lack of Sopor slime and they came to me for help. At the time I only had minimal information to work with from a single meeting with a jade blood and made them a substance that while not exactly the same as what I was told, was usable nonetheless.

Now that I've had a chance to get a closer look at trolls thanks to you and Sollux I believe I've finally made an improvement for a better substitute. I was hoping I could get your opinion on the matter by showing you both the first one and the newer one to see if there's a substantial difference.

What some of them have been using is the older version that I had in a jar, but I'm thinking that wasn't the best method to go about. With this new development I was considering making patches out of it so it would be more effective. I didn't mention it to you because I'd started work on the improved version, no use giving over the older one if I was working on something new.

And I get the feeling I don't have much of a choice in the taste matter, so what is it this time?

That's why they were originally in jars that they could keep open next to wherever they choose to sleep, but unfortunately I won't be able to make a large enough quantity of it to use as you normally do. With patches at least it will be more effective and last longer. And it's actually a slime substance that's contained within the patches, the patch part is just so you can lay with it without making a mess and wasting it.

Coffee cake sounds pretty good right now.

I've been thinking over what you said about it needing to be concentrated if it's a small amount. I'm certain the newer one would be an improvement over the first batch, however if we're to further improve testing to see what knocks a troll out in comparison to what makes a human fall asleep will be necessary.

If you're willing to be a test subject on that then it'll be easier, otherwise I can ask one of the others if they would like to volunteer under the promise you won't start anything with any of them who would have to come here and see me for that.

Meenah was already not an option for obvious reasons, but if any of the others offer their assistance I won't turn them away. I'll be sure to put a disclaimer so they know in advance you'll be around as well, but I'll assure them that you won't be any trouble.

Various reasons to be honest. On a professional level it's my job to do what I can for the guests while we have all of you here. On a more personal level, I've always been highly intrigued by lifeforms that were rare or hard to come by. A chance to study trolls more closely spikes my interest. I'm a scientist just as much as I am a professor and a Meister, perhaps even more so at times.

A little more wouldn't hurt, but it wasn't bad as it was. If you leave it with the same amount, it would probably go better with a cup of coffee to make up for it. Maybe a little less glaze on the top.
