[ The video feed opens, but shows only the sunrise. Pretty, isn't it? The scorching rays are only just beginning to heat the city up, and there's still the slight darkness looming over the city. The view is offered from the 13th floor of Casualty Communal. After a few moments, Kanaya speaks. ]

Good morning, Death City. I must admit that a view such as this, one of the sunrise, is a most pleasant one to accompany my first morning here. Likely like a handful of other residents, I find the sunrise to be a beautiful, pleasant beginning to the day. Others may view it as a disappointing end to the night. Neither view is wrong, but at the very least for those who may miss it today, it is here.

[ After a moment, she turns the video to face herself, and she's sitting on one of her room's chairs on her balcony. A jade-green Virgo symbol (♍) is clearly visible on her black short-sleeve shirt, and is one of only three things that break away from her monochrome colors; the other two being the yellows (not whites) of her eyes and her horns. The residents of Death City have seen a troll before, though only those who are more familiar with them (or trolls themselves) will notice that her gray skin is notably lighter than the others here. ]

Good morning to each and every one of you. To those I already know, I look forward to our time here. To those I do not yet know, I am Kanaya Maryam. [ A smile. ] Sunrise or not, may you all have a bright, pleasant day.

[ She turns the feed back to the sunrise for a few moments, offering the beautiful sight once more... before she ends it. There was no sense in beginning anyone's day anything but pleasantly. ]

I cannot say that I am not. I have the opportunity to not only fight to win, to return home, but also to fight to protect my friends here in the city with me.

So I take it that you've experienced a struggle against an enemy before, yes?

[ If she had a chainsaw to hold up, she would.. and just raise her eyebrows. ]

I have, on multiple occasions, against multiple enemies. My involvement typically cut the enemy's chances in half. [ ...Quite literally in half. ] Some of the trolls already here, such as Karkat, can attest to that.

I see. [He's kind of familiar with Karkat... but not the one he had noticed lately being around Dave and John. Okay. He is a stalkery kind of Zone Leader.]

That's good to hear.

I assume there are those who have arrived here that are not as familiar with combat as I am? [ I mean, if not, why would he be asking that kind of question? ] ... what of yourself, Genesis?

Indeed, there are. As for myself, I'm highly familiar with warfare and combat. I was a military commander back in my world, and in this world, I am one of the Zone Leaders for the Watch, as well as the Watch's liaison to the guest-run detective agency for intel.

I thought as much. [ ...then a pause. ] Old habits, then, continued here as best you can to maintain some level of familiarity or consistency with what you are accustomed to. It is much the same for others, I have witnessed.

Pretty much. [Genesis smiles a little at that. There was actually a five year break wherein he became an enemy to the world.]

[ Well don't go telling her that or she'll have to question him a bunch. ]

Other than combat and struggles, and your work with the Watch, what are your thoughts on this city? ...perhaps, even, this world?

[Oh no. No way. That's something he'd prefer to keep close to him. The only one who knows his complete story in this world is Sephiroth, and he isn't one to dish out dirt on another.]

It's a strange one, but I've found it to be home for me now. The madness and the war aside, living here is alright. While I will fight my hardest for the cause, I'm not one of the many who would like to return home right away.

[ That's a story she'll never learn, then, since Sephiroth would take it to his grave and... she didn't know him at all. Gosh, men of mysteries. ]

You'd rather remain... because you've grown more fond of this place, or because home offers you little to return to?

It is the latter.
