[Hyobu smirks at the communicator.]

It's a funny thing, isn't it? That so many of Shibusen's "guests". [He does not say 'us' because, hahaha, as if he's ever been interested in helping out.] Could fight for this war, even die for it and yet we're all still viewed as outsiders. [He doesn't even sound or look upset. Just faintly amused.] Sort of makes any sacrifices on our part seem meaningless, doesn't it?

How nostalgic. I suppose people really are the same no matter what world they're from.

[And then as if he just remembered.] Oh, I made an account so I could share my opionion on the newspaper's Twitter. I tweeted, 'Shibusen sucks'. I'm not sure if I'll ever use it for anything, but if you have an account and you want to follow me, my username is 'keroro'.

[Yeah. He totally used someone else's name to badmouth Shibusen online. (He is totally seven, okay.) Then his lackadaisical manner drops for the first time and he actually looked, dare I say, troubled for a moment.]

And I found a rabbit in Katsuragi Yako's place. I think it might be some kind of emergency ration for her dog, but he's not eating it so I'm not sure. [What was he doing at Yako's place you may ask. Who even knows with this guy. (It's totally not because he was there to take in her dog. Perish the thought.] I mean, I even tied trussed it up and put it in his bowl and everything, but it's like he's not even interested. You don't think he's waiting for me to cook it, do you? I mean, I understand if rabbit stew is a thing he's used to being fed, but there's only so much effort I'm willing to go through for a dog.

[Hey Death City, did you guys miss this cute little face? 'cause here it is again, and it's looking a little sheepish.]

U-um... I don't know if anyone remembers me, but I'm Chihiro Fujisaki and... well, I'm back!

[Chihiro certainly looks happy to be back in this place of war. Whatever.]

I'm... I'm trying to get my old job back, but... i-in case anyone ever needs help with anything computer related, I'm more than willing to lend a hand...!

OH! And... I'm a Meister this time...! W-which is ... kind of weird. I'm not very... good with fighting, uh...

[After trailing off, Chihiro shakes out of it and then smiles brightly.]

But... but I'm really happy to be here again, and I hope we can... all... get better acquainted...

[Awkwards off.]

[FILTERED to Shibusen, the Agency, and the Watch]

[The camera focuses on Near, barely even visible in the dim lights coming from the monitors around him. He doesn't waste time with polite introductions or small talk before going straight to business.]

We have an emergency in our hands.

[The screen changes to footage of various Death City streets, as Diablo makes his way across them, slaughtering enough people in his path to paint the ground and building walls red. As the images keep changing, Near continues speaking, providing additional info.]

My calculations tell me that this new guest is approximately 20 feet tall, and I don't need to tell any of you how dangerous it appears to be. There is no specific modus operandi other than killing everything in its path, but it seems not to want to go into buildings, unless it's in pursuit of a victim.

[Case in point: the footage shows exactly the scenario Near has just described, with Diablo chasing a woman into a building, causing significant structural damage as he does so, and then returning to the streets, even more blood soaked than before.]

Whoever or whatever that is, it isn't just killing its victims: it's also eating their souls.

[He's sure they all know what that means and leads to.]

I will trace his movements through the surveillance system and keep you updated.

[And now he switches to PUBLIC. Near is as calm as always, and definitely unperturbed by the slaughter and gore happening outside: someone has to keep their cool. Inducing panic in others would be counter-productive.]

This is Near speaking. There is a killer on the loose. [A picture of Diablo, snapped from the cameras, pops up on the screen.]

Don't go outside under any circumstances, and if you are currently on the streets, seek shelter immediately. Do not approach and do not engage this individual in a fight. Following these indications should save your life.

[It's a Saturday morning! Lovely day to walk your dog, or see the (death-themed, skull-studded) sights, or just kick back and relax before the next big invasion with a bowl of cereal and Saturday morning cartoons. Or...you can give a little public service announcement because of all the people BREW has been sending home. Those lucky ducks. Edgeworth has mixed feelings about this - relief because they're better off back home (with the exception of a few who have grown to prefer Death City, maybe), but also unease because the Agency lineup has dropped to a paltry 5-strong team. Why was BREW targeting the Agency in particular?

Oh, and he is 2 days shy of spending a full year in Death City after the rest of the folk from his home have been long gone. Lawyer pride! More like combat lawyer pride...?

His expression is pensive, and his eyes like gathering storm clouds. He exhales slowly from where he is seated at a...dining table. An immaculate dining table, mind. A thick novel is off to one side, on top of a small stack of files.]

With BREW sending home more people and summoning less, the Kuzunoha Detective Agency has suffered heavy losses. While it is generally better to be home and mind one's business than to fight another world's war, it does not bode well for the rest of us remaining.

[A beat. His brows furrow, and he folds his arms across his chest.]

The Agency, the heart of the guests' investigatory and archival efforts which closely coordinates with the Watch, presently has five members. Once again, I would like to extend an invitation toward those who have had experience in these fields - or those willing to learn. Not only are we looking for agents, we need a secretary, a janitor, guards and messengers. Contact me or Near, if you are interested, and either of us [read: usually Edgeworth] will set an interview with you.

[Yeah, the links to their inboxes are right thar. He makes a move as if to switch the communicator off at that point, but withdraws his hand.]

Lastly, a question for all of you: How long have you been here? [Many of the people who have been in Death City for much longer than a year were already gone. Despite knowing that BREW was far less predictable than a game of roulette, that did not stop Edgeworth from trying to puzzle out why it was suddenly bringing home more people in proportion to the number of newcomers they got every month. Was BREW finalizing its lineup for a final confrontation with the witches of sorts? Or was this just another day in the life of a demon tool?]

[The video's simple: The clattering of silverware against glass, and the chatter of people. But on screen is Kanji about halfway through some kind of purplish sundae with blueberries on top and... pop rocks? Those that have been to the Hikan Cafe lately would very likely recognize exactly which dessert it was.]

Ugh... still feel cold...

[His shoulders are trembling, but despite that, he has another spoonful.]

I'm in a desert city in the middle'a summer and got a sundae. Hot mixed with cold, so... it's gotta fix the chills, right?

Why do I feel like I'm bein' screwed with again...?

Screw it- I'm done. I'm done with snowy mountains for the rest of my damned life!

[ Well, she hasn't used this in a while! At least not to address the entire city at large. So hello, Death City! The video will turn on to show Sakura, who takes a step back to make sure it's no longer some form of extreme close up. ]

Hello, Death City! My name is Sakura. A few of you might know me already from morning training, the clinic, or the Watch! And if not, I guess this is our first time, and it's nice to meet you.

This isn't all about saying hello to everyone. I actually have a question to pose to the current residents! I sort of miss where I come from sometimes; my best friend's family had a flower shop that I would help in. I miss slow mornings where we would cut fresh flowers for the day. Which brings me to my question!

What do you miss about where you come from?

[ Chika really, really didn't want to make an announcement like this. But she really didn't have much choice. She couldn't just pretend that everyone was still here. And... people deserved to know, didn't they.

She's not going to be lingering on it though, because there's really not much that that can do. ]

I'm... I'm sorry to have to say this to everyone. But for those of you that know her... Asuka's been sent home by BREW.

[ There's not even a trace of her usual cheerful voice. In fact, if anything, she's biting back anger. She's never been really good at hiding her emotions, which sucked because this was the first time she really wanted to start.]

Also, of the permanent employees at Triple A have also been sent home by BREW by now. So... I'm going to start taking applications and doing interviews in the next couple of days. After I have time to get things more settled.

[ She sighs, and decides to put an end to this before she starts throwing things or something. ]

Anyway, that's all I wanted to say. So... later everyone.

[Greetings, Death City. It's a serious looking Mondo that addresses the network today, however there seems to be something... off about him. Morning training regulars may have noticed his typical presence missing this morning, and his usual bluntness is replaced with an undertone of uncertainty, though his tone remains firm and as even as he can force it to be.]

So. I don't know how many'a you might have known Chihiro Fujisaki... [And here, his focus drops momentarily before he looks back into the camera.] But I figure there's probably at least a few of you that did. I checked Fujisaki's apartment recently and the place is completely empty, and I can't get in touch with the kid. So I guess... [He falters again, frowning. He knows well enough what all this implies, but can't seem to pull himself out of his own denial.] I guess what I wanna say is, I'm gonna keep looking in case there's something I missed, but if anyone knows anything about this, tell me.

[Again, he hesitates, as if there's more he wants to say. Instead, the camera is left to linger on for just a few more awkward seconds before he simply ends the feed.]

Hey everyone!

... I know what I'm about to ask might be a bit weird, since we just got back from a skiing trip, but my friend Minako and I have been talking about setting something like this up for a while, so I'm going to go ahead and ask this anyway.

How many of you would be interested in having a beach trip or something sometime in the future. Not right away, obviously. We did just get back from a vacation day, but both of us figure that gathering interest now and planning things is better than trying to rush it all at the last minute.

[ Not to mention that, you know, people knowing about it in advance would make it easier to not have something else come up and make it so it needed to be pushed back because she hadn't had time to ask about it. ]

Also, if people are interested, what type of food would you like us to have there when it happens? Though I guess we might need to ask again closer to the date, depending on how many new people we get by the time we decide to actually have this.

[ Though you know, maybe she should say something else too. ]

Anyway, I have something else to talk about too. Something a little bit more important than a vacation day. My partner and I are thinking about trying to take on more missions than we have been. But... I'm not exactly sure what's a good balance. Like... how often should we go on more missions?

I mean, I know that we're not allowed to go on one everyday or more than two in a week. But for partners who haven't gone on that many before, is that a good schedule to follow? Or should we try to do one every week instead of two a week? I don't want the two of us to burn out on missions because we thought we were fine and then we suddenly crash, since that's not really going to help anyone out here. Does anyone who's been going on missions steadily for a while have any advice here?

[Since Genesis has been feeling very cheery, he's in the mood to talk to the city. Usually, he'd be a bearer of news as part of the Watch or a mouthpiece for recruitment. But today, he's in the mood to talk about something else.]

Did you ever have a feeling-- and impulse, more like, to do something dramatic? Sweep someone off their feet, or run off on an adventure? I didn't think I'd feel such a thing, but perhaps it's about time to revel in a little happiness. Do something beyond the fighting, the training, and the daily hubbub.

What I mean is...

Yako Katsuragi, would you like to go flying with me this afternoon?

[As soon as the feed starts, Sheena's immediately pounced on by a couple of animals--the corgi using a little stool to climb up on the sofa to sit beside her with its head on her lap, while the kitten and other dog just hop up easily and take their spots.

She gives all the animals disgruntled look, but it's easy to see she's trying not to laugh.]

Seriously, you guys? As soon as I turn this on? [She shakes her head and mutters the word "hams".]

Sorry about that, but these guys seem to know when I have the camera on. [A chuckle.]

Anyway, my name's Sheena Fujibayashi and I come from a world called Tethe'alla, and after recent events, I've been curious about something. I've noticed over the past several months that both this planet and mine have a lot of animals in common--like dogs and cats. I've also noticed that there are creatures on my world that I see every day that don't exist here--or if they do, I don't know where they live--and I kinda miss them.

[And on the screen there appears a sketch of a rather strange-looking tree.]

These are pretty common in the forest near the village where I grew up and are called...well, Pumpkin Trees. [The image disappears.] After recent events, I realized that others may feel the same way I do and I wouldn't mind hearing about those creatures from other worlds. [Who knows? They may have similar creatures in common.]

Or, if anyone wanted to tell me about some of the creatures that had appeared here--like that floating finger I saw! We have nothing like that on my world!

[Her tone and delighted expression show she'd be more than happy to listen to any and all stories.]

I'll keep this address very brief.

[Naoto appears tired, but she'll get this over with.]

Due to various circumstances, I will be stepping down as a Shooting Instructor temporarily. If anyone requires an estimate, I would say one week going onto two until I resume the position. That isn't to say I will not be in attendance or unwilling to lend a hand should we suddenly be missing the other instructors, but do not come to me unless there is a situation.

Thank you.

There are several questions that have been weighing heavily on my mind since the sandstorm and all that it ensued, all the panic and the shuffle and the drifts of granular glass. I have my opinions, but I want to hear yours.

Is it worse to lose something, or for it to be stolen? Can stealing ever be justified? When recovering stolen possessions, is it better to handle it oneself, or outsource the task to those you trust?

What if "trust" is more of a spoken formality than anything of actual value or substance?

The city will have another stray dog if no one intervenes. Animal lovers are encouraged to do so at their earliest convenience, because I haven't the energy or the patience for this level of pointless, exuberant disruption to my affairs and my way of life.

[Hyoubu was sitting on a couch that anyone who lives in the Casualty Communal would recognize. The more observant people might notice that the apartment behind him looks pretty bare though.

Hyoubu sighs as he idly toys with a spray can.]

Ah, this is what I get for just showing up unannounced, I guess. But what am I going to do with this? [He holds out the can so the label is clearly visible. It's pepper spray.] I wanted to see what that hermit would do if I sprayed this in his apartment. Then when I finally got in all I found was his stupid cat and an empty apartment.

[He leans back with an overly-dramatic sigh.]

Really. BREW has such shitty timing. Didn't even give me a chance to send off that hermit properly before sending him home. [Now who was he going to harass? He blinks and then reaches down to shoo something away. There's a very audible 'meow' in response to his efforts. Then he shakes the can in front of the communicator again.]

[ The video begins, showing the faint sight of the sunset in the distance. In contrast to her initial video nearly a month prior, she is within her residence and not on her balcony (on the fourth floor of Murder Manor). Outside the window there is... sand. Lots of sand. Her balcony is practically coated in sand, and the air is full of it outside. Terrible. Simply terrible. ]

[ So she turns the video to face herself, showing the top of a light, sleeveless dress and a very noticeable article of clothing that hangs loosely around her neck: It looks, for the most part, like a scarf. ]

For those who choose to venture outside, please take caution and cover your mouth; and eyes as well, preferably. I can offer simple wraps for those who need them- [ She pinches the scarf-like cloth around her neck to hold it up a bit. -if you have nothing else to use. The sand is most unpleasant to breathe in.

[Normally, Lily would be setting out to the park for her gardening job at this time but she’s in her apartment this morning instead. There’s a fine coating of dust in her hair and her previously white dress definitely needs to go through the wash. Her eyes are red, both from being irritated by the sand and an all-nighter tracking down child-eating demons in Haiti, and she stifles a yawn.]

[She meant this to be voice and for Kanji only but she was never good with technology. And her tiredness and squinting at the mirror through sore eyes don’t help. It ends up being video and public.]

Kanji, are you still going on that mission today? Those stairs are kind of scary in this wind…

[Especially when you’ve gotten sand in your eyes, can barely see, and need to cling to your partner to keep from imitating a Weapon trying to force a first transformation!]

I don’t think I’m going to be able to make it to the shop today. If you pass by, could you put up a sign saying that we’re closed for the day? I reckon not many folks would want to go shopping with all the dust blowing around anyway.

[She moves to end the message but then reconsiders a moment and adds…]

By the way, do you know anyone who might want to work at Yesterday’s Magic? The space next door is still empty and I’ve been thinking about expanding. But with you being out on missions so often and Yuugi having a partner now, we’d need more help. Both in the shop and to make trips out of town with me to search for inventory.
