[ The video feed opens, but shows only the sunrise. Pretty, isn't it? The scorching rays are only just beginning to heat the city up, and there's still the slight darkness looming over the city. The view is offered from the 13th floor of Casualty Communal. After a few moments, Kanaya speaks. ]

Good morning, Death City. I must admit that a view such as this, one of the sunrise, is a most pleasant one to accompany my first morning here. Likely like a handful of other residents, I find the sunrise to be a beautiful, pleasant beginning to the day. Others may view it as a disappointing end to the night. Neither view is wrong, but at the very least for those who may miss it today, it is here.

[ After a moment, she turns the video to face herself, and she's sitting on one of her room's chairs on her balcony. A jade-green Virgo symbol (♍) is clearly visible on her black short-sleeve shirt, and is one of only three things that break away from her monochrome colors; the other two being the yellows (not whites) of her eyes and her horns. The residents of Death City have seen a troll before, though only those who are more familiar with them (or trolls themselves) will notice that her gray skin is notably lighter than the others here. ]

Good morning to each and every one of you. To those I already know, I look forward to our time here. To those I do not yet know, I am Kanaya Maryam. [ A smile. ] Sunrise or not, may you all have a bright, pleasant day.

[ She turns the feed back to the sunrise for a few moments, offering the beautiful sight once more... before she ends it. There was no sense in beginning anyone's day anything but pleasantly. ]

.. Well, I guess if that's the worst thing that could happen to us, it could be much worse.. [ Trying to view it from the optimistic point of view. ]

Still, they gotta remember to tell more new people that! That kinda shit's important!

It would seem that the current residents have varied opinions on what knowledge we are or are not privy to. [ A smile. ] You're welcome to consult me if I can be of help, I feel that we are all to stick together no matter what.

[ Especially since he had arrived at the same time she did; there was a sort of automatic camraderie there, even if she... still didn't know his name, whoops. ] Forgive me for asking so late, but: your name?

Uh.. oh, I didn't know I didn't say it yet! [ In other words, there's nothing to forgive her for, he's a derp either way. And he seems like he's in a good enough mood from her words. ] I'm Josuke, Josuke Higashikata. But just call me Josuke, I don't care!

Yeah, I think it's good to stick together and help each other out. After all, we're all fighting on the same side.

[ Higashikata... what a name. She'd try to put it to memory, but likely only Josuke would stick. Or she'd just remember 'Higashi'. ] Pleased to meet you, then, Josuke.

My thoughts exactly; and as we both arrived at the same time, we are on more similar footing than those presently here. [ ...also Josuke's a lot friendlier and easy to talk to in general, she notices, even if he's prone to moments of freaking out. ]

That's right, we're the newbies! As much as I'd hate being called that.. [ But at least he can apparently joke about it himself without minding it too much. ] In that case we definitely gotta stick together. Keep an eye out for each other and all that, that's what's important, right?

We will not be able to be referred to as such for long, I suspect. [ She tries the reassurance at least. ] And that is precisely right, looking out for one another is of the utmost importance. Hopefully forming lasting camaraderie among us and others.

"Lasting camaraderie".. you sure have a way to put it! [ SHE CAN'T HELP IT THAT NOT EVERYONE IS ON YOUR DERPY WHAT-IS-ELOQUENCY LEVEL, JOSUKE.. ]

In that case I sure as hell won't mind having it with you here. I wanna make sure that we all can get along so we can all fight together if we have to! So the less assholes and the more friends, the better.

[ ...oh my god Josuke, if she wasn't already desensitized to gratuitous swearing she would be taken aback by such blunt, not-eloquent speech. But thankfully, she just smiles. ]

Precisely that. It is considerably reassuring to know that you can trust those you are fighting alongside, rather than worry that they have abandoned you to an unfortunate fate. I have no doubt that you are precisely the type to be a friend I am grateful to have.

[ Hey, at least he isn't Karkat. It could always be worse. ]

.. Yeah. [ He can't help but smile. ] So if you're ever in a jam, just call me! I'll give whatever needs to be beaten up a good punch and it'll all be alright again.

[ Aw, but she likes Karkat. There's nothing worse about him or Josuke. ]

I will be sure to do so; and the same offer extends from me to you. Though things would be solved with less punching and more alternative solutions in my case. [ ie: Chainsaw. ] Thank you, Josuke.

Heh, no problem! I sure wouldn't wanna be on the receiving end of your.. uh... "alternative solutions".

[ Not like he has any idea what it is, but it sounds so fancy that it's got to be something bad. Logic. ]

You need not worry about that, that is something you will never be on the receiving end of.
