☆ 002 | TEXT | 2/06 ☆
[He'd been keeping out of the way during the recent chaos for the most part, his strong sense of self-preservation leaving him disinclined to take up an active roll - that, and he may still have been sulking just a little over the results of a run-in with a certain detested someone while under the influence of the contaminated water - but that doesn't mean he hasn't been watching. On the contrary, he'd quite enjoyed witnessing the turmoil produced by recent events, and has been keeping a careful eye on the DEMISE network just to make certain he doesn't miss anything that might be useful to him, later.
But now all the chaos has died down and he's feeling a little bored, so he deems it time to re-engage with Death City society]
Ah well, that was certainly a baptism by fire! So much has happened, and all in the last ten days since my arrival. Witches and kidnappings and chaos in the streets, even potential serial killings on top of it all; enough to unnerve or at least unsettle most people, I would have thought. Is this the level of danger we'll be facing on a regular basis, I wonder? I'd been led to believe otherwise.
How many of you did the attacks convince to fight as we've been brought here to do? How many were dissuaded? I myself am still undecided.
The list of deaths and casualties was fairly high, so my condolences to anyone who's experienced a recent loss or disappearance. It's strange and perhaps a little disorientating to find ourselves in a situation like this, and that must be made significantly worse if the people you know - either those you've met since arriving here or those you might have known from home - are lost or threatened. Unless those people were ones you found threatening, I suppose, which is always a possibility.
Which leads me to another question! Have many people here chosen to locate partners amongst those they knew before coming to Death City? Or is it more common to pair off with those you've only just met? I suppose I'm feeling a little curious.

Though I'd suggest your point about them not being bad, but not being good either is an intuitive one. Dividing people into 'good' and 'bad' categories makes no sense, in my opinion. It's rare to find anyone who'd fit neatly into such black and white categories no matter how you define it, I think.
And 'ideology' is a set of goals, expectations, aspirations etc that represents the way a certain person, group or society approaches life.
[Video] I am enjoying this far too much
Those people would be good to me. Maybe they'd just seem silly to the people of that world though, rather than bad? How can kindness be bad?
But people are always good or bad, just as long as they're not in a world that's mixed up. How can be somebody be good and bad? That doesn't make any sense. So putting people into clear categories is easy!
text; haha good! Sorry I'm so slow rn, I'm on holiday!
It really depends on your belief system and your outlook on life, don't you think? Perhaps some people view kindness as a weakness that needs to be stamped out.
Easy perhaps, but incorrect, oversimplified. For example, you said stealing was bad, right? What if a person steals frequently, but for them it's a necessity in order to survive, or to feed their children? Does that make them a bad person by your definition?
[Video] don't worry! I don't mind at all.
But why would people think of kindness like that? Kindness is always a strength. And besides, we all have feelings, and nobody wants people to hurt them.
[She pauses, stumped, and frowns in confusion.]
I... I don't understand. Why would stealing be a necessity? There's food everywhere, and the authorities are always ready to help if you're desperate. And nearly every regular person would be willing to help if they saw someone in need and they could make a difference.
...Is that different in your world?
text; ty! <3
There are plenty of times when kindness would be a hindrance rather than a strength. If you're at war for example and the opposing side has nothing but your decimation in mind, showing kindness would likely only lead to death for you.
That's not how it is in my world at all. In some parts of the world food and even water are scarce, and in all industrialised societies it's something you're expected to pay for. Some societies think more in terms of communities, sure, but others are highly individualistic and if you don't have the means to pay for what you need, you can't expect other people to provide it for you. Some people are left with no choice but to steal if they want to live.
But let me put it another way. If you found yourself in a kill or be killed situation and ended up committing murder in the name of self defence, would it still be wrong? Even if you were left with no choice but to fight back?

She can't cry. She mustn't cry. Her tears help no one.
When the video feed begins, Haruka's expression is serene, her voice is pleasant and inside she is screaming. Off screen, she clenches her fists and digs her nails into the palms of her hands. When she speaks, her words comes out slightly... disjointed, however.]
No... it wouldn't be wrong. You're never wrong to fight back. They're the one that started the fight, you can't just lay down and die for their satisfaction. What gives them the right? They can't just... decide your life is theirs to take. You must fight back. Always.
...Tell me, do you know if this world is a kind one, or a harsh one?
text
You can't, but the law may well still decide you need to be punished for your actions, even if it is in self-defence. This is what I mean; things are never just black or white, they're a multiplicity of shades of grey.
From first impressions? Like anything else, it's mixed. There'll be kind aspects and harsh ones. But overall? It seems harsher than the world I'm from.
But a harsh world, huh...
[Then she must be as kind as she possibly can, always. She's got to find ways to start making things better. This world isn't right.
She needs to change it.]
You never told me your name. I'm Haruka.
text
And I expect most worlds have their harsher aspects, if you look beyond the surface.
I'm K-chan. It's been nice talking to you ☆
[Video]
[She's starting to feel very drained.
'K-chan' sounds like more of nickname then a name, but maybe that's just how it is in (probably her) world. It seems rude to ask for clarification, at any rate.]
Talking with you has been very interesting. I'm glad I met you, K-chan.
text
Likewise, Haruka-kun. I'm sure we'll get the chance to talk again some time ☆
[Video]
Y-yeah! Talk to you then!
