[If anyone noticed, Rosalia had been missing from the Horrorspital and Training field. Well, she's back and looks somewhat distressed.]

What happens if you... forget how to transform? Also, when did it become August 8th? Lezard, how many people are in the clinic right now? Why does something feel off...?

[She's mumbling to herself now, but she turns off the communicator to try figuring things out.]

[Back from another mission, Lily is planning to check with her employees. Too many strange things have been happening lately and she wants to make sure things were okay at the shop that day. But the sudden beating of wings causes her to toss the mirror away in surprise. It lands on the kitchen counter, propped up against a wall, and turns on.]

[Her back is to the camera but it’s clear that she’s recoiling from the creature that has appeared in her apartment. Rising above her, a griffin with the body of a leopard and the wings of an eagle hovers near the ceiling. It speaks in a seductive voice.]

Liiiiiily, did you miiiiiiss me?

No… It can’t be…

[There’s a note of panic in her voice and she instinctively grabs for the protective medicine bundle tied at her waist. The witch mutters a protective incantation under her breath, not that it does any good with her powers gone. And it’s as if the creature senses this, stretching its neck and leaning forward until its face is less than a foot from hers.]

Does the big bad witch think she can take on the demon again?

[Alarm at the demon’s proximity causes her to transform in a flash of green light and a red leather-bound book is visible for a moment before it falls to the floor. With a mocking laugh, the winged leopard draws back and turns, crashing out an apartment window, no doubt looking to cause mischief elsewhere.]

[Once she manages to change back, Lily hurries towards the broken window and looks out, scanning the darkening sky for a minute before her shoulders slump. Running a hand through her hair in frustration, she turns back with a worried sigh and walks back over to the communicator, letting out a groan when she finally realizes it’s on. There’s a hesitant frown at the thought of how this would wreck the impression she tried to give, of just being an ordinary shopkeeper. But folks need to be warned.]

…If y’all see that thing, stay away from it! It’s dangerous. Can play with your mind, make you see illusions. It might even try to possess someone!

[OOC: Other characters are free to encounter Sitri (or NPC residents who have fallen victim to his effects) around the city and play out their own shenanigans in the event log after he escapes from Lily’s apartment! His ability to possess people has actually been sealed by BREW but Lily doesn’t know this. He likes to mock women and can still cause people to see illusions and give people impulses to strip or make out. But the effects can be resisted with a strong will, much like resisting Madness. And although I’m using the SMT wiki as an image reference, it’s actually the version of the same demon from Lily’s novel series.]

[When the video starts, there’s only a view of the dimly lit Kishin Chamber’s ceiling and the sound of a Texas twang that’s rarely heard over the network. The voice is a bit distant, as if the speaker is talking to herself rather than the device, and colored by a level of level of exasperation usually reserved for a certain nerdy nuisance of a sorcerer.]

Jiminy Cricket! Not this place again! That cotton-pickin’ contraption always picks the worst times!

[ Really, couldn’t it just leave a witchy person to brew in peace, solve the occasional murder, and fix a supernatural problem once in a while? The voice trails off into a frustrated sigh and less intelligible mutterings. Something about a date? And a soul trapped in a mirror…]

[But the mumblings stop a few moments later when Lily notices the communicator lying on the floor. Dag nab it! Is that smartphone thing on, too? Is that what she dropped when she landed sprawled on the ground?]

[Finally, Lily’s face comes into view as she leans over the communicator, red lipstick slightly smudged and the curl coming out of her 1920s style Marcel waved hair as several brown locks escape from a chignon at the nape of her neck. There’s a bit of a bare shoulder visible for a second before she draws back and only her face can be seen again, expression uncertain as she addresses whoever might be listening. She doesn't like these gadgets but she needs help.]

Um, could someone tell me what day it is? [It had been weeks by her reckoning but she knows how BREW likes to muck with time.]

And I need help with a clothes problem. A woman would probably be better. I can’t go back to my apartment like this…

[Then, she recalls the last thing she remembers about this place being tossing her keys on the kitchen counter after getting back from grocery shopping.]

Dag nab it. I don’t think I have my keys either...

[is there some person in charge of the apartment buildings with spare keys who could let her in? Or does she need to call a locksmith after she gets out of this place?]

[The feed begins, the angle revealing the front of a shop with a sign reading Yesterday's Magic. The view is perfect... deliberately so, the light of the moon casting a silvered light against the cobble, wood and metal, a fog (dust from the desert?) hanging in the air. A pair of figures are moving quickly from off-camera, approaching the front of the shop and inspecting it before setting down a sack.]

--face when she found it? She just about shit!

Sshh! Help me get this set up. I can't see a thing in this crap.

[The two figures hunch down and get to work, crowding around the sack. But as the fog began to build, the two begin muttering their frustrations. It's getting harder to see, and since when was there fog like this in a desert? But there's a flash of light, a brief wisp of fire, and something rising presumably from the ground in front of the shop; a slender figure wrapped in a black cloak with the hood drawn, too tall to be human. The moment they notice, the two immediately spring back.]

Thou hast summoned me...

What the hell's that thing!?

But thou hast offered an insufficient blood sacrifice... a curse upon thee for thy insult! [The voice that comes from the figure is deep and distorted.]

'Sacrifice'? 'Curse'!?

Oh... oh god... the chickens, dude! I think it called some shit up!

So send it back or something!

HOW, dumbass!?

A curse upon your eyes and of those you hold dear! May insects crawl and feast behind your eyelids! May your ears be forever filled with the buzz of their wings! Let it be but a temporary repentance until the agony grows too strong to bear... and I will come to ensure a blood debt repaid!

[The pair seems unsure of what to do, frozen in place, until from the sleeves of the cloak grow long, twisted fingers as the figure draws in closer and reaches for them. The distorted voice rises in a strange language, words in a rolling staccato that grew louder and louder as the two decide they don't wish to be cursed and scatter, screaming, with the figure hot on their trail. Listeners familiar with Old Norse might recognize a recitation of the Lord's Prayer and little more. For a full minute there is nothing but the foggy storefront, and shouting in the air that faded off into the distance.]

Really, now? Pathetic...

[But then the ghoul returns, stopping to chuckle. When the hood was pulled back, a bespectacled human face is revealed, grinning like a devil as a small mouthpiece was pulled away from his lips. As the figure has to all but clutch his stomach as he doubles over laughing, the video ends.]

[ooc: Red font is, of course, this jerk.]

[The video begins with the very first glimpse into the home of someone who has to be an intellectual introvert, shelves upon shelves of books lining the walls that can be seen via the camera, all of them turned spine-out so that they may be referenced at leisure. The lights are low and books are strewn about the desk upon which the communicator is resting, all open to different pages that a pair of violet eyes are referencing as both hands are working at a mortal and pestle to grind -something- into a fine powder.]

...Hermes.

[The voice is calm and pleasant from the man, and from behind the camera something quickly moves: A rat with coloration akin to a badger. A gloved hand seizes something from a nearby cup and, without looking, offers it up. The rat snatches it quickly in his mouth, racing up the man's sleeve before settling on the shoulder, taking the foodstuffs in both tiny hands and chewing away, whiskers twitching. The man hadn't even looked at the camera, and saw no need to- he knew it was rolling.]

My sincerest apologies... Rattus norvegicus are an inquisitive sort. Though I suppose I should stop considering and move on to action, hm?

[He gently tapped the pestle against the rim of the mortar, inspecting the contents before dipping a gloved finger in, rubbing it against a thumb to test consistency.]

I am offering an extended lesson in Weapon Transformation. While the six-to-nine AM schedule is suitable for most, I feel that our newer Guests are not given ample time to discover their newly-granted... potential. Tomorrow morning, I will remain for an additional three hours and see to a successful transformation process.

[A look to the camera and a grin.] You wouldn't wish to be left behind, correct~?

[ooc: I'll be putting up a log around tomorrow. Replies to the entry are not required- characters can just agree to stick around after Morning Training to attend.]

[While it’s only been three days since Lily disappeared, it’s been nearly a month by her reckoning. The witch’s weeks in San Francisco had been busy: tying up loose ends with the demon at the School of Fine Arts, starting lessons with the male witch Aidan Rhodes, and getting involved in another murder investigation when Inspector Romero asked her to consult on the bizarre death of Malachi Zazi. The leader of the Serpentarian Society had been found dead on the dining table of his 13th floor penthouse, stabbed with a shard from a broken mirror and surrounded by bad luck symbols the morning after one of the rationalist society’s midnight dinner parties.]

[The following days were complicated by devil worshipers, a disappearing corpse, and evil witches. Snakes kept coming up, too. And then there was the hex left on Bronwyn’s doorstep. That led to arguments with Lily’s friends over her meddling. And she had broken up with Max since he couldn’t accept her being a witch. Most of her few friends were angry with her but she couldn’t just drop the investigation as they wanted her to. Not after Bronwyn had been threatened.]

[And—despite some hesitation—that was why Lily ended up in her kitchen, brewing the Living Things in You spell to force a conclusion to the case. If it worked as she intended, Malachi’s killer would feel the uncomfortable sensation of a snake wriggling around inside their body, possibly be driven temporarily insane, and give their identity away.]

[But as always, BREW had wonderful timing and chose to bring her back to Death City mid-spell. Eyes closed in concentration and focused on her task, Lily fails to notice when the scene shifts from her San Francisco kitchen. Or when her rarely used communicator falls to the floor and turns on. It lands propped up against a wall, giving an oddly angled view of the kitchen in one of the Creeping Crypt apartments.]

[There’s a thirtyish woman in a black dress. In one hand, she holds a featureless doll of black wax, dripping with some red substance. In the other, there’s a small glass bottle—is that tabasco sauce? Eyes still closed, she mumbles a chant. It might have sounded more ominous if it weren’t for her Texas twang.]

What is evil and death is nigh, take this poppet through and through
As serpents twist on high, so the snakes shall live in you

[She reaches out to a cauldron on the stove and drops the crude wax figure in. There’s no bubbling up or cloud of steam as she expects, just a dull thud as the poppet hits the bottom of the pot. She blinks in confusion as she peers inside.]

What in tarnation? [Her expression goes from one of confusion to disbelief and the sauce bottle slips from her fingers to join the wax doll at the bottom of the cold cauldron. Lily had been finding it more difficult to cast lately, probably due to that hex Renna told her about, but the contents of an entire cauldron disappearing on her was a first. She blows out an exasperated breath.] What happened to my brew? I have a murderer to catch. [As if her week hadn’t already been bad enough…]

[Lily’s eyes fall to her Book of Shadows lying closed on the counter. It should have been open to the spell. She grips the red leather-bound volume as she looks around and frowns when she realizes there’s a much more troubling fact.]
…This isn’t my kitchen. [It definitely isn’t the one in her apartment above Aunt Cora’s Closet. Yet, it seems vaguely familiar somehow. And her goblin—or should it be gargoyle?—familiar is nowhere in sight.] Oscar? [No answer.]

[Her head feels muddled too although it’s not quite the usual hangover feeling she gets after casting a strong spell. Letting go of the spellbook and rubbing at her temples, Lily wishes she had some willow bark tea. She mutters to herself…]
What in the Sam Hill is going on here?

[OOC: Lily is back from a canon update after having disappeared on the 13th and doesn’t remember everything yet although she will eventually. And yes, she actually learned that snake spell in the novels. But obviously, it does not work here!]

[A pair of eyes are looking through the device, but quickly note that this object is recording.]

Ha! It functions! While similar to a scrying orb, it cannot divine that which was or what shall be. Oh, what a shame, but it will have to do.

[And the mirror is laid on a surface - propped atop a chair perhaps - revealing the rest of him. Glove-covered fingers adjust the gold-framed glasses rested atop his nose as his lips twitch into a grin.]

Well good morning, nonetheless. I am Lezard Valeth, one of your 'Weapons' in this aptly-named city. It is a pleasure to be thrust into another world filled with lowly beasts all-too-eager to feast upon the souls of man. You could say I've ample experience in dealing with such creatures... [And he enjoys a short fit of laughter with a further thought.] How amusing would it be were I inconvenienced with homesickness!?

[A devil-may-care shrug here.] Ah, but I digress. I seek a Meister with which to begin my participation in this campaign. My alternate form is that of a tome, but what function it serves must be further explored... Soul Resonance would undoubtedly be the key.

As for requirements, hm. [A hand to the chin.] To resonate with a woman may yield stronger results... though, I suppose I shall make exceptions for a better-fitting candidate.

And so my search begins. I look forward to meeting each and every one of you. [He dipped into a theatrical bow, and the feed ends.]
